Having swung on to Home rails, the RCPE works east towards South Dakota in the last light of the day. The four pack of SD40 body's mixed with the great light in the afternoon was excellent for shooting yesterday.

Having to pick up a block of empty ties service gondola sitting in the Rivière à Pierre siding, Chambord-based crew had to keep about 18 cars on the head end to do the move, in order to clear public crossing in the back. With the conductor riding the shove, M369's locomotive engineer keep an eye on the speedometer, observing the 5 MPH speed restriction in track JM39. Once the train back into one piece and with only 40 miles to go on a 160 miles run, the crew stormed out of town in a wake of prime movers and crushed sand.

We're having a typical summer's day out here: nice in the morning, with a rising risk of thundershowers etc in the afternoon. This is one of our favourite sections of Fish Creek Provincial Park, near Mallard Point. Unexpected, I was able to add two new birds to my 2022 bird count. The Savannah Sparrow was #87. I am currently at 123 different birds...
I was noticing that many of the sparrows were 'posing' like this, gathering food in their beaks, then staying for a while on a shrub. What I think they were doing was looking out for predators, because their next stop would be the nest...
We have resident Spruce Grouse in the woods on our property. We have named this handsome fellow Romeo. For the past two weeks, he has been out courting the Spruce Hens that live on our property and it has been quite entertaining to say the least.
Two nights ago, we came home from town and Romeo was on top of our truck's tonneau cover doing his mating ritual.
When doing his ritual, he spreads his feathers out like the image above, then moves them from side to side. After doing this a few times, he then will peck at the ground or in this case, a branch. His next move is to extend his wings out maybe an inch on each side and have the wingtips pointing towards the ground. He will then run towards the hen and if she is receptive, then he will mate. If not, she will fly off and Romeo will start all over again. Gotta love Romeo!

This is her looking out the glass/screen door, peeking, seeing what is going on outside & wondering if she can join.
I love this photo. Totally unplanned.. Came out PERFECT!
The only thing that I would want to & may attempt in the future (before I print it) is the scratches on the glass.. however I kind of like them.. It ads to the realism of the shot.

& yes, normally I do not add this many photos to my stream, but I guess I'm in an editing/creative mood today.

I have some new works with neon effects... sometimes it is boring to use orginal colors.. so i have the idea to make b&w with neon light colors... maybe i print these pictures in Big size to get the full big view.. =)

Having just returned from Sicily we are now evaluating our trip and our thoughts on the incredibly interesting and at times intense island. As a first upload I thought I would start off with a wide view off the lovely mountain village, Novara di Sicilia.
The guide books are full of towns and cities that consist of ancient architectural gems and many of which have been awarded UNESCO heritage status. Some are stunning in both appearance and historical content, whilst in my mind some are very much overated.

Novara di Sicilia, is a mountain top village that we stumbled upon by accident. It didn't appear in our guide book and yet was full of wonderful views, architecture and character. There were a few tourists but not the hoards that descend upon better known locations, there was life in the village unlike a few we had passed through, a good number of old cars were seen plying their way through the narrow streets and the local bar served two coffees and a cake just Euro3.00. Towering above the village was the ever so distinctive mountain, Rocco Salvatesta. For all those reasons I would go as far as saying this was our favourite location of the trip.

Having been recently repainted at the Juanita Shops only a few weeks prior, NS SD70ACe 1067, the Reading heritage unit, leads 11Z South over the South River Bridge at Cornwall on the Roanoke District of the Shenandoah Valley Line.
I have been out and around today practising Focus Stacking and also trying some new software that is for Focus Stacking in Particular, called, "Helicon Focus 7".
This tree is three exposures with one focused on the immediate foreground, one focused on the tree and one focused behind.
The software is probably the best I have tried and is highly recommended. You open the software and you can either drag and drop the photographs you want to be stacked or choose to open the files. Once they are in the software just choose to increase the
"Radius" you wish to render at and the "Smoothness" then click on "Render". The software will do it all for you and once done then choose where to save and save the picture. Much, much quicker than Photoshop, no cropping or anything like that and it does not take up resources on the PC like Photoshop does. I honestly think the results are much better than Photoshop, detail and sharpness is outstanding.
Below is a link for the software so give it a go with the 30 day trial, I reckon you will like it especially if you are into macro photography and like to Focus Stack.

Have you catch it? I was resisting the temptation to join the train this season, no pun intended :) Work hours and feeling a bit lazy lately didn’t help either. After spending 4h in the cold last night I was happy I didn’t come back home empty handed but I kept thinking why do I do this to myself! Final frame is the blend of the few different exposures for dynamic range and clean noise free image. What do you think?
