From the 1990's onwards Honda built a different (and somewhat smaller) version of the Accord for the European market. This generation was built from 1997 until 2002. Apart from the saloon model this hatchback was also available in that era.

All these cars are located in Hoogeveen. Although some cars are there for years, it's not a scrapyard, the owner hopes/says that these cars will be exported.

Most of them are not dutch, but imported from Denmark.

XF-26-JR, Mazda 323 hatchback 5 drs, 1.5 glx benzine, 05-04-1989

The first time I've seen a Honda E in the metal. And with a retail price of over £30k and a claimed range of 137 miles, I'm not likely see another too soon.

I didn't edit the contrast, the rims are that flashy tho', quite a radical combination with the factory green

As part of a significant product placement movie appearance by AMC, a 1974 Hornet X Hatchback is featured in the James Bond film: The Man with the Golden Gun, where Roger Moore made his second appearance as the British secret agent.

The film's "most outrageous sequence" begins with Sheriff J.W. Pepper, who, on holiday in Thailand with his wife, is admiring a new, red AMC Hornet in a Bangkok showroom. He is about to test drive the car. The action begins as James Bond commandeers the Hornet from the dealership with Pepper in it for a car chase. The Hornet performs an "airborne pirouette as it makes a hold-your-breath jump across a broken bridge".

The stunt car is significantly modified with a redesigned chassis to place the steering wheel in the center and a lower stance, as well as larger wheel wells, compared to the stock Hornet used in all the other movie shots. The 360-degree mid-air twisting corkscrew was captured in just one filming sequence. Seven tests were performed in advance before the one jump performed by an uncredited British stuntman "Bumps" Williard for the film with six (or eight, depending on the source) cameras simultaneously rolling. Two frogmen were positioned in the water, as well as an emergency vehicle and a crane were ready, but not needed. The Cornell Aeronautical Laboratory (CAL) was used for computer modeling to calculate the stunt. The modeling called for a 1,460 kg (3,219 lb) weight of car and driver, the exact angles and the 15.86-metre (52 ft) distance between the ramps, as well as the 64-kilometre-per-hour (40 mph) launch speed.

Evolving the SkyActive platform of the third generation Mazda3, the 2019 model progressed the styling to a more aggressive look, particularly for the hatchback model, with a small rear-side window, and thick C-pillar. Mazda also introduced a new variation of its corporate face, eliminating the chrome surround and replacing it with a carbon black on sportier trim models, matched with carbon black wheels. Sedans still wore the chrome trim and silver wheels.

Inside Mazda also lifted the driver-focus and interior quality to a higher level, including an option of coloured leather trim.

In the Australian market, at least, this was matched by higher prices for all models, and a wider installation of the premium 2.5L 4-cylinder engine, producing 138 kW. Placing the Mazda3 at the premium end of the small car market. This was also reflected in a drop in sales, placing the Mazda3 seventh outright (behind its Mazda CX5 Crossover stablemate) whereas in previous years it had ranked in the top three.

My new wheels, and my first hot hatchback, following three and a half years of sensible, but boring diesel motoring behind the wheel of my old 130,000 mile plus Kia Rio. The vRS had 27,000 miles from new when I got it, and is in immaculate condition for its age.

Likes:

- Performance (obviously), 180bhp from this 1.4 TSI, turbocharged and supercharged engine

- Engine sound

- 7 Speed DSG Auto with flappy paddles on the steering wheel (It's the gearbox of choice for modern sports and supercars). I don't miss manuals at all in daily driving.

- Styling (Only in vRS form, have you seen how dowdy the normal Fabia looks?)

- vRS bucket seats

- Interior space (headroom, legroom front & rear, boot space all good)

- Handling

- Fuel economy (Yes I rate 37mpg pretty good on mixed conditions, mid 40s on longer runs)

- A great car for all types of driving; comfortable when driven carefully, a lot of fun when you aren't

- Visibility all round. Skoda are known for being generous with glass coverage, this is great for a modern car.

- I'm a Skoda owner, that's something I never thought would happen.

Dislikes:

- Trade off of good handling is bumpy ride, but it's not nearly as bad as many of its rivals

- Concerns about car park dings and other drivers

- Slightly behind the times technologically speaking; no DAB radio, bluetooth, satnav, or cruise control (These can all be retro fitted by main dealers if you wanted)

- Oil consumption - well documented with these engines, also used in the VW Polo GTI and SEAT Ibiza Cupra Bocanegra, which use a litre of oil every 600 miles. (Luckily I don't have oil cost worries where I work, so not a problem, but I don't think this is acceptable for a modern engine)

- The most expensive car I've ever bought, and possibly the most risky reliability wise (but for the latter; I have a Skoda extended warranty)

- Depreciation concerns

- Very difficult to keep clean

This is the newest and third car in my collection, added to my '86 Porsche 924S & '88 Rover 213. A diverse range of motoring choices there I'm sure you'll agree, which I still absolutely love.

Am I crazy? Probably, yes.

The Peugeot 205 was reduced to budget-orientated or special edition models by the mid-90s like this Inca edition. Now on SORN and with an interesting MOT history!

I think later models do at least get wheelcovers.

The Renault 11 Hatchback was launched in Febr. 1983. In fact the Renault 11 Phase 1 was a Renault 9 Phase 2 but not as the more traditional ponton type saloon with a boot.

Both 9 and 11 were designed by Robert Opron.

The Renault 9/11 series was also assembled in Valladolid, Spain.

This Renault 11 was one of the about hundred 1970s and 1980s cars which are part of a rather vague classic car collection of two brothers. I spoke with one of them but still I don't understand the purpose of their collection activities.

Voted European Car of the Year 1995.

The MK1 Punto went on sale in 1993 but didn't arrive in the UK until 1994, hence why the Punto wasn't eligible for the 1994 Car of the Year award. Personally even as a former Punto MK2 owner, I think the MK1 has aged better than the Mk2.

This example is probably wearing its original suppling dealer number plates.
