After many years of rear mounted engine models Å koda returned to front engined cars with the Favorit. Another significant brake was the use of front wheel traction and the choice for a Western car designer: Nuccio Bertone. Bertone was already contracted in 1983 but it was not until 1985 for his designs were ready.
When Volkswagen Group took over Å koda Auto in 1991 the Favorite was modified and continued till 1994.

One of two GXi models left! The Applause is now one car you expect to be extinct and to see one now when it was still hard to see when new is very special to see one. I was suprised to notice this one in the car park of an old peoples home, within spitting distance from my home. Let's hope the owner, even if unmistakably elderly, looks after it and keeps it. I'd hate to see it scrapped.

I had a suspicion I'd seen this before and indeed I have (see my Ford and 2018 albums). A true survivor with only minimum signs of rot that typically blights Fords of this era. 39,787 miles at last MOT, though I can't say if it has been round the clock.
