The Kila Siku project in eastern DR Congo employs over 40 disadvantaged women like Clementine who embroider fine linens that are sold in Europe and beyond. The women are able, through their work, to support their families and rebuild their lives in this war-torn region of Africa. All profits are reinvested in the project, including in social initiatives aimed at supporting the women of DR Congo. Go to www.kilasiku.com for more info and see how you can support the Kila Siku team.

Here's a close up of the rocket. Like I wrote in the description of the other photo, my original plans didn't have the rocket in the design. After finishing the rest of the embroidery, I decided I should add the rocket. I came up with this design, and think it turned out alright. I'm not completley happy with it, as my satin stitch seems a little too loose in some areas, I am not sure I like how the exhaust/fuel looks, and I think the star might have looked better in the gold yellow instead of the pale yellow. I do like having the rocket as part of the overall design, though.
This vintage French linen sheet probably dates back to the 1950s or earlier. It has an enormous hand embroidered ton on ton monogram with the sweetest butterfly motif filled with french knots. I think the initials are CL or CI or GI or GL but they really are so swirly and lavish it is difficult to tell! This really is the largest monogram I've seen so far on a sheet. The linen or metis is pure white in color and has all the fine slubs and irregularities you expect from a pure linen or linen mix textile. This sheet also has deep jours or drawn thread work. It really is a lovely example of beautiful vintage French linen bedding with lashings of hand done detailing.
This is the first toy drop we did as part of The Toy Society. The point is to make a handmade toy for someone to find and take home. The maker expects nothing in return. It's just for the sake of doing something positive in the world.

Other Comments: My daughters (Sophia and Olivia) and I were so excited to put the little teddy bear in one of carts for children to use.
We hope it will brighten a child's day and perhaps make a parent's trip around the store a little bit easier since it was about 4:15 p.m. when we dropped it off.
We checked back at 4:45 p.m. when we left the store, but the cart had not yet been taken. Perhaps it will be found tonight...maybe in the morning.
We hope the child who finds it enjoys naming the bear and taking it on journeys with her/him.
