A 5 watt halogen spot that produces a warm low wattage light. This light is ideal for general road use, paths etc. It is probably not quite up to off-road use. The 12 watt spot would be a better choice for off-road.

How funny: this bulb must burn out a lot, judging from the number of views this gets from people who have googled "Ikea 12V 20W ".
Look at the filament detail on this: this bulb was fully on (and was quite painful to even glance at).
Digital Macro. Playing with fast exposure via CHDK, which I just downloaded today onto my Canon point and shoot. Thumbs up to CHDK!
BTW, taken Revere_J's Kitchen while receiving a tutorial on shooting Bokah. Thanks Rev!
A Basta headlight that came in a used Union bottom bracket dynamo set I just acquired. I got the dynamo set primarily for this light; I have the guts of an old B&M Ixon that I'm going to try and stuff into this so I can get the B&M shaped beam plus the circular reflector on this light.
In preparation for a renovation that will impact the kitchen, bathroom and floor, I am sending my bookcases away and packing up my books for storage. Right now I am just completely overwhelmed though.
i remodeled the bathroom over the past couple of days and felt like getting some kind of artsy shot from it.
Here we see the ideal halogen pairing, the 12watt spot and the 20watt flood. These two lights have been the most popular starting systems for over a decade and still represent a solid set of affordable lights

One of our more adventurous DIY projects. We demo'd the sagging wet plaster ceiling in the living room, retaining the coved ceiling by using a RotoZip spiral saw around the perimeter to get a clean cut through the plaster and lathe. Then we installed 10 small halogen recessed lights, drywall, two wall switches and two wall sconces--all in four weekends. Weekend one - demolish; weekend two - wire; weekend three - install drywall. We hired someone to do the mudding. Then the following weekend we painted.
Traditional automotive bulbs are either made of tungsten or halogen, both of which rely on a superheated filament for illumination. On the other hand, the bluish tint you see on HID-equipped vehicles is from a lighting technology that uses no filament whatsoever. HID bulbs create light much like a mercury vapor lamp: a high-pressure gas is excited between high-voltage electrodes. The bulbs are filled with xenon gas, which is why HID headlights are often referred to as xenon headlights. Now, with the flick of the headlight switch, the xenon gas turns into white-hot plasma light in seconds. A single HID bulb is so bright that it can handle the job of two incandescent filaments.
Bright light with low voltage
Once illuminated, HID light output is three times that of halogen, and as an added benefit, the ignited gas uses very low voltage, thereby reducing the load on the alternator. The light, now at a “hotter” color temperature than halogen, appears nearly white. The powerful white light makes distant street reflectors and signs highly visible to the driver. As HID light is more intense, the bulbs are typically placed behind projector beam headlight assemblies. These lenses allow the bright HID beam to be very focused, often with a very pronounced beam cut-off, or area where the light stops, to reduce glare to opposing traffic. In addition, most HID-equipped vehicles have standard beam leveling control, dropping and raising according to vehicle load and angle, to further prevent glare to other road users.
Early HID headlights were only used for the low beam, with a halogen bulb reserved for high beam use. As reflector technology has improved, “bi-xenon” headlights (offering both a “low” and “high” HID beam) are offered on many vehicles today
The Halogen is on the right and is more yellow at this brightness. The Halogen is probably using less than 50W. The dimmer is halfway, I'm not sure that translates into 25 watts however, it could be more or less.
The LED on the right has remained the same and probably still uses 2.5W. The colour also has not changed.
8 halogen can lights, 40 feet of rope light and two sconces for lights (three separate digital dimmers). A lot nicer than our beat up lamp that used to light the room. Shelves and the inside of the cabinets still need to be completed too.
A coworker of mine makes characters for different holidays out of light bulbs. I'm her secret Santa, so I decided to make an angel for her out of this halogen light bulb. I hope she likes it!

What you are seeing here is a hole burned completely through the HARD cover of a cookbook, as well as the first three pages by a high intensity halogen lightbulb. Let me give you a little insight. This was definitely my fault as I placed the book inside my glass fronted kitchen cabinet, far too close (about one and a half inches below) the halogen bulb, while clearing off the kitchen counters hurriedly last month. We rarely use these lights, but obviously they were on for some period of time to have done this damage, possibly while our house sitter was here, as the lights may have been left on for longer than usual. When I pulled the book out to use it yesterday, I just felt sick to my stomach knowing what could
have happened. If you have these lights, please be aware to not place anything potentially flammable too close to them!!
