Lights x MYTH - Almost Had Me

Part of the pattern on one of my jumpers. Had to take this inside as it was just too wet to put it on the garden table. To help keep the ISO down we put on all the lights in the main room, halogen lamp and all. Hope it hasn't done too much damage to the electricity bill...

Better viewed large.

Thank you for your favourites. :O)

Freightliner shed 66566, still holding on to the former Freightliner branding and original halogen light clusters, plays the age-old winter pastime of dodge the shadows, while leading a delayed 6C73 12.18 Westbury-Fairwater Yard HOBC tripper towards its final destination, a mere 48 minutes down by this stage. Sletterhage Lighthouse is located in Denmark on the southern tip of the Djursland peninsula protruding into the Kattegat between Denmark and Sweden at the entrance to the Baltic Sea. The concrete lighthouse was built in 1894 to help guide ships to and from the Port of Aarhus, via a shipping lane that passes close to the lighthouse isthmus...Before electrification the lighthouse had a clockwork mechanism which had to be wound up every four hours in order to open and close a set of shutters that made the lighthouse flash at specific intervals. Today a 600 watt halogen bulb that turns off and on serves the same function...Tower height16 metres

Illumination is quite tricky in this case, due to to the short working distance of the objective and the high reflectivity of the surface.

Amtrak 2116 hits the straight rail as the train approaches the grade crossing at Associated Road, which is one of the only non-private grade crossing in the area around Devon. Siemens Chargers that were delivered to the California Department of Transportation has flashing ditch-lights (All Amtraks have them after a little research). However the SC-44s being the first to use LED as opposed to incandescent or halogen the light actually fully turns off which is now something that I will have to remember or I could just practice more on Photoshop.

For Macro Monday theme "In the Space Between." The filaments are in the space between the electrical leads and the glass bulb.

An automotive halogen headlamp lightbulb. These filament coils are roughly 3.5mm (1/8 in.) in length. A low voltage was applied to the lamps leads to achieve a slight illumination of the filament.

Happy Macro Monday and thanks for viewing.

Even though Bangkok's Chinatown, at Yaowarat Road is just a stone's throw away, the streets at its fringes can be surprisingly quiet and peaceful. It gives off a feel of a place that has seemingly been frozen in time.

The differences in style between the Kodak Portra & Cinestill rolls can be quite different especially at night, with more details on the Portra roll compared to a a cyberpunk halogen feel on the Cinestill roll.

Minor auto adjustments in Adobe Lightroom were made only when necessary in order to preserve the original film roll colours.

For 'MM' this week with a theme of bulb I decided to photograph a halogen light bulb floating around in oil and water with a colourful background underneath.

I only used outside natural light to create this oil & water image.

I then cropped, enhanced the colours etc. to achieve this bulb image.

It's way under the 3 inch maximum size requirements for Macro Mondays.

Love & Peace everyone 💖

I put up a black sheet as a back drop, attached LED lights to it and burned incense. Shot through the smoke on a tripod. Lit with a halogen work light, no flash was used. Shot taken from lotus position while chanting "om". Image was flipped.

My pan can also be used on a halogen hob according to this symbol on the bottom.

I had to look up what it means, apparently it's not used much anymore.

An illuminated, upscale shopping and dining market street area near the Quarry in San Antonio, Texas, USA shot in abstract bokeh mode to bring out the great ambience of the lighting and lower ranges of color temperatures in the incandescent and halogen bulbs. The incandescence of older styled lighting is on its way out making room for more futuristic and efficient lighting technologies, but the warmth evoked from the pure colors of burning filaments will surely be missed.

Best when viewed in LIGHTBOX.

This shot is out of my third smoke photo session. In contrast to “First Smoke,” this shot indicates that one can learn with practice, especially, if the frame of mind is receptive to ideas and advice from others.

I named this shot “Prayers to Wakan” for personal reasons.

I am still working on my techniques so I won’t get into much detail here other than to explan the basic setup.

One thing that fascinates me about smoke pictures - the diversity of possible shots is infinite as well as the options one has in the post processing steps.

References:

Process:

Nikon D200, 300mm, 1/250sec, f/9, WB Flash, manual exposure, ISO 100, about seven feet from the subject. Lighting: Nikon SB-600, full power manual, 8 inches right of smoke. Black background, snoot around light. Adobe Photoshop Elements 8 include:

a. Camera Raw to increase exposure 2 stops.

b. Level adjustments to suppress background noise.

c. Colorize using hue/saturation layer.

Observations:

1. While smoke shots can be done with halogen lighting, much better results are obtained using a flash.

2. For some reason, my remote flash trigger only fires about 70% of the time - Arrrggghhh! [figured that out - note to self: don't be so cheap - put in good batteries]

3. My studio is located the basement and, when the furnace is off, the air is absolutely still. The smoke is at peace and the spirits are at rest. This is not a good thing for smoke photography. Wafting the air stirs things up but one must wait until it settles down somewhat. I think that, if I were to open my door towards the north, the spirits might sense a Wyoming Wind and be more active.

4. The post-processing possibilities in Adobe Photoshop are, literally, infinite. This is where the true art comes into play.

The indoor halogen lighting in the supermarket foyer wasn't up to par so I had to make do with what I had.
