Abstract of an Aloe plant by focusing on its shadow instead of its leaves. It is lit by 4 precisely positioned halogen bulbs, equally separated. I heard it is also called sometime a kitchen light fixture, but hey, that doesn't sound as cool... I really like the repetition and the pattern created by the different amount of shadows intersecting simultaneously ( 4,3,2,1 in order)

Malkin Avenue, Strathcona, Vancouver. April 24, 2016.

Sletterhage Lighthouse is located in Denmark on the southern tip of the Djursland peninsula protruding into the Kattegat between Denmark and Sweden at the entrance to the Baltic Sea. The concrete lighthouse was built in 1894 to help guide ships to and from the Port of Aarhus, via a shipping lane that passes close to the lighthouse isthmus...Before electrification the lighthouse had a clockwork mechanism which had to be wound up every four hours in order to open and close a set of shutters that made the lighthouse flash at specific intervals. Today a 600 watt halogen bulb that turns off and on serves the same function...Tower height16 metres

Part of the pattern on one of my jumpers. Had to take this inside as it was just too wet to put it on the garden table. To help keep the ISO down we put on all the lights in the main room, halogen lamp and all. Hope it hasn't done too much damage to the electricity bill...

Better viewed large.

Thank you for your favourites. :O)

A macro view of a T3 clear halogen double-ended bulb. The frame represents a span of ¾ -of an-inch across and was illuminated by window light at 3-o'clock.

One of several lanterns on a trail in New Hampshire. Though the flame was created by me, and the lanterns were purely decorative, it made me ponder thoughts of the early days when one would walk a path to a relative's, or to a neighbors house at night swinging a lantern. Or ride into town in a horse drawn carriage, or on a wagon by the light of the moon or by the guiding light of lanterns. I'm such a romantic! But I'm also a realist. I'm sure that wet matches, short wicks, high winds, spilled fuel, unintentional forest fires back then sucked as much as todays modern lanterns, having only two of the three triple A's required, or worse "D" batteries, to light up that flashlight. Or to have your phone at 27 percent, with no charger in sight. Or your ride with only seal beamed incandescent lights and not the retina scorching rays of Halogen's. Lets be thankful that a clevis is still a clevis.

Time out to talk.

What seems to me a bit like the lodges of an opera hall is only part of the reflector of a halogen spotlight.

Freightliner shed 66566, still holding on to the former Freightliner branding and original halogen light clusters, plays the age-old winter pastime of dodge the shadows, while leading a delayed 6C73 12.18 Westbury-Fairwater Yard HOBC tripper towards its final destination, a mere 48 minutes down by this stage. The local landmark that is Obridge Viaduct can be seen in the background, partially obscured by the vast amount of trees, even at this time of year.

Yet another tiny wasp exhibiting physical colours at the whole body.

Coaxial white illumination applied here (halogen lamp). Its just, that these guys are so small, that you normaly don't see these beautiful colors.

The name comes from Greek khalkos 'copper', for their metallic colour. [German: Erzwespe]

The family Chalcidoidea contains some 22,500 known species, and an estimated total diversity of more than 500,000 species. Most of them are parasitoid.

I took this photo probably in 1998 in Krakow, in a dormitory room. Model: Marta. Photo camera: Canon 35mm analog full frame. Lens: Canon 20 mm f / 2.8 EF USM. Negative: ILFORD black & white DELTA 3200. I used two halogen headlights and black fabric background.

Jewel beetle (Anthaxia nitidula, f)

Antenna exhibit a rich structure in high magnification.

Illumination is quite tricky in this case, due to to the short working distance of the objective and the high reflectivity of the surface.

Objective: Mitutoyo M plan apo 50x NA 0.75 (HR), tube lens: Raynox (125mm)

Illumination: Oblique (LED) and coaxial (halogen)

May 04, 2020. Dąbrowa Górnicza. Poland. The ET42-001 electric locomotive illuminated with halogen lights standing at the Dąbrowa Górnicza Towarowa starting station with train 444088 to Zebrzydowice and poses for a photo. Next to ET22-786 in the company painting scheme of PKP Cargo with the train 414008 to Warszawa Praga during the brake test. This photo was created with help of local railwaymen. The ET42-001 locomotive has historic factory painting scheme.

Just catching up from my few days off, this is my first foray into using lighting properly for a bit more drama.

Thanks Charlie for your advice on all this stuff, I'm really pleased with how it turned out :)

Amtrak 2116 hits the straight rail as the train approaches the grade crossing at Associated Road, which is one of the only non-private grade crossing in the area around Devon. Siemens Chargers that were delivered to the California Department of Transportation has flashing ditch-lights (All Amtraks have them after a little research). However the SC-44s being the first to use LED as opposed to incandescent or halogen the light actually fully turns off which is now something that I will have to remember or I could just practice more on Photoshop.

For Macro Monday theme "In the Space Between." The filaments are in the space between the electrical leads and the glass bulb.

An automotive halogen headlamp lightbulb. These filament coils are roughly 3.5mm (1/8 in.) in length. A low voltage was applied to the lamps leads to achieve a slight illumination of the filament.

Happy Macro Monday and thanks for viewing.

For 'MM' this week with a theme of bulb I decided to photograph a halogen light bulb floating around in oil and water with a colourful background underneath.

I only used outside natural light to create this oil & water image.

I then cropped, enhanced the colours etc. to achieve this bulb image.

It's way under the 3 inch maximum size requirements for Macro Mondays.

Love & Peace everyone 💖

I put up a black sheet as a back drop, attached LED lights to it and burned incense. Shot through the smoke on a tripod. Lit with a halogen work light, no flash was used. Shot taken from lotus position while chanting "om". Image was flipped.

Changing a halogen headlight in sub-zero temps is less “basic maintenance” and more “Arctic survival challenge.”

You pop the hood and immediately regret every decision that led you here. The cold hits your hands like they owe it money. The plastic housing has the structural integrity of a saltine cracker. The bulb? A fragile little diva that can’t be touched with bare fingers—convenient, since you can’t feel them anyway.

You try to twist the socket. It does not twist. You negotiate. It does not negotiate.

Somewhere between losing a clip in the snow and Googling “is one headlight legally fine,” you achieve enlightenment. Or hypothermia. Hard to tell.

Then—miracle of miracles—it clicks into place.

You slam the hood, climb back into the car, and blast the heat like you’ve just conquered Everest.

All that… for a headlight.
