strobist: 1/5 sec exposure, halogen lamp to left for ambient light. Sunpak 422D bounced in 32" umbrella, 1/4 power, radio triggered, rear curtain sync.

As I was "documenting" my last lightbox shoot with the cheap but effective halogen light I've got today, managed a bit strange but probably still acceptable chiaroscuro effect ...

The spot metering on the Canon was confused as hell from the brightness of the halogen and dropped everything else in a deep shade ...

Ok, so still "not quite there" (as far as chiaroscuro goes), and not at all there as far a decent picture goes, but anyway.

Is it a UFO? An abstract sculpture? A priceless work of art? Nope, it's just my mom's halogen lamp.

2010/02/03: Make a "sharp" photo today any way you interpret it, either tack-sharp focus or a subject that is sharp itself. #ds80

It's a halogen bulb element, with glass fragment. Just as well that it broke since it used a massive 75 Watts.

I bought these fantastic bangle holders - don't they work well! They're cylinders of plastic - one clear, one frosted, which you twist apart, put the bangle in and twist up. They do a really good job - so long as I don't use top heavy bangles! I've made myself a little photo space as well - it's a bit dodgy for now. Basically it's a corner of space in my bay window, so I can use either the dark green curtain as a backdrop, or put up a bit of paper. I need to get some bigger paper, so I can do a curve in it and have a 'no horizon' backpiece, but that'll come. I've got two lamps - one's a standard table lamp, and this thing with the stick on the back of it is a halogen spotlight. I'm not too sure about this right now, it's giving a very poor colour resolution on the photographs I've used it in so far. It's all sitting on top of an old box, which is very unsteady at the moment, and desparately needs to be replaced with something a bit more classy - actually I may cover the box with something like modroc, which will add weight for stability, and give me a good ground to paint and make it into something more classy! Any comments/critiques/suggestions welcome!

Today's prompt of DIY for the #fmsphotoaday challenge was a real challenge for me. I am not the DIY type around the house. My hand was made to hold a credit card while I pay a repair man. It does not fit a hammer. But I did have to change a halogen bulb over our bar today and even that gave me a challenge.

Halogen is nice and warm

I sent Jamie some flowers the other day because I was feeling down. Doing something nice for others is one way I make myself feel better.

She brought them home and they are lovely. The fragrance is caressing me as I type.

The girls' friend, Yvonne, spent the night a few weeks ago. What do girls do at a slumber party?? Among other things, they play dress-up... and then they have a photoshoot.

This series of shots was taken of Yvonne, using a halogen lamp, black background, cardboard gobo used as a barn door, and a foam-core reflector.

Stuff in the Garage.

We lost power for about 2 hours due to a heavy monsoon storm. So I started to find stuff in the garage to take pictures of to pass the time. You can tell I got bored.

I found this broken halogen light fixture on the third floor of the abandoned Lebow Clothing Factory in East Baltimore, across from Greenmont Cemetery.

I blew up my flash, so I'm experimenting with a halogen tube on a apc-battery.

used:

-tripod

-3 bracket long exposures

-halogen tube + cloudy sunset

More shots of playing with a halogen lamp, a cardboard tube, and a Lego Pirate. The pirate is more in focus in this shot, leaving most of the tube out of focus.

When the BBQ is not the right tool, -- and it's Summer, -- and the kitchen won't stand a hot oven I turn to the halogen convection oven.

It sits on the counter, heats rapidly, cooks quickly, and produces perfect meals in a single container. This is not quite boeuf à la Bourguignonne. It doesn't take 6 hours either. This is an inexpensive, 4 pound, garlic studded, chuck roast. Halogen-light seared at 450° F for 10 minutes per side.

Then placed on the vegetables at 325° F for about 50 minutes, (internal temperature @ 125° F.) Then held at oven temperature for 20 minutes at 250° F. Rested for 10 minutes and then sliced and served.

The vegetables are braising the whole time in a garlic, shallot, Burgundy, and chicken stock bath. Saves energy too.

One of the final images in my Gregory Crewdson project.....At this time I was realising I hated him a little.

Lit with several high powered Halogen lamps, and 'natural' fluorescent lamps. Exposure crushed down alot......Took ages to set this one up.

The halogen light is just there for fitting purposes. I do have a Union bottom bracket dynamo, but I'm still not sure whether I want to kludge it onto the sweet fixie(tm) or not.

One of our more adventurous DIY projects. We demo'd the sagging wet plaster ceiling in the living room, retaining the coved ceiling by using a RotoZip spiral saw around the perimeter to get a clean cut through the plaster and lathe. Then we installed 10 small halogen recessed lights, drywall, two wall switches and two wall sconces--all in four weekends. Weekend one - demolish; weekend two - wire; weekend three - install drywall. We hired someone to do the mudding. Then the following weekend we painted.
