I know this is a weird pic but it’s the first year ever of the innovative traffic directory system, the arrow board. The engine was built by a company called Lombardini, out of Italy. These old signs use slow burn halogen bulbs and have several intensity of brightness. Though the concept is extremely dated compared to the modern day solar panel LED units. Can’t forget where it all began. It had a control box to operate the light patterns in left arrow, right arrow, solid bar, shoulder closed and both arrows. It had a collapsible panel and could be towed by a midsize pickup truck. Very rusty though. This one read 715 hours of usage. It’s definitely seen it’s better days out on the highways for days on end flashing drivers where to go in a construction area, this one was used until the early 2000s. Very interesting piece this is.

Photo taken under a halogen lamp. N°16-75/2 (KRS-22) – Violet (≠ purple) is the rarest hue of all fancy colors, not »red«, because all as »pink« graded diamonds have the hue »red« as »pink« is a lighter and/or less saturated appearance (= coulor) of »red«.

As the photographer in the family, I have been given the job of photographing items to be sold on the family business website or on eBay. There is quite a bit of variety (if you think about what might be found in a cave belonging to a genie!) and I quite enjoy doing it. This image was taken using a small light tent illuminated by a pair of halogen lamps of the type commonly found in bathroom or kitchen ceilings.

When I saw the eye doc, I found my prescription hadn't changed. So I kept my old glasses and got something completely different.
The have a tint of green that you can't see well, but it's there. Maybe if I color-shifted you could see it. But these are utterly straight out of the camera.
Sitting in front of a black sheet. An IKEA halogen desk lamp a foot from my face on the left side of the screen, and another 5' away on the right. Maybe a pop of flash from the 430EX, but I don't think so on these.

Lightsources: Continuous halogen light under table, 580EXII to right and slightly behind and above (with mini-softbox) and blue gelled Nikon SB-28 behind glasses, and shot through plexiglass.
Both strobes triggered by RF-602 triggers.
Warren, Connecticut. There is beauty in everyday objects and one of the things we can do with our cameras is take objects out of their functional settings and just look at their forms.
This bulb is reminiscent of a Mercury Space capsule as well as a piece of Japanese pottery. There's something pleasing about the form.
Note: I was experimenting with the 1.4x extender on my 135mm f/2 to see if that combo might make a good substitute for the 200mm f/2.8 for when I need something longer than 135 but shorter than 300. I think it will.

When we did some wall fishing, we discovered old junction boxes that had been plastered over. This is one of two others. We didn't disturb the one on the other side of the walkway. What were these people thinking? Every bedroom in our house has at least one wall sconce, yet all those on the first floor were covered up.
One of our more adventurous DIY projects. We demo'd the sagging wet plaster ceiling in the living room, retaining the coved ceiling by using a RotoZip spiral saw around the perimeter to get a clean cut through the plaster and lathe. Then we installed 10 small halogen recessed lights, drywall, two wall switches and two wall sconces--all in four weekends. Weekend one - demolish; weekend two - wire; weekend three - install drywall. We hired someone to do the mudding. Then the following weekend we painted.

Had some fun playing with lights here. I used a halogen desk lamp to provide off-camera back lighting from below and the Speedlite flash set to bounce off a white wall behind the flower. The result makes it look like the petals are glowing from the inside. This is the center of a Phalaenopsis orchid taken with the SuperMacro setting on the camera.
Orchids are very specialized in their ways of pollination. Many require a very specialized species of orchid bee that will pollinate only flowers of that particular orchid species. Phalaenopsis will glue its pollen packages (called pollinia) to the back of visiting pollinators with the beak-like structure on the "bird head" (called viscidium or rostellum). The glue is very strong, so the insect will rip out the pollinia and carry the pollen packages to another flower. This leaves behind two "teeth" in place of where the anther cap was. The sticky stigmatic surface is hiding right behind the beak structure, so when an insect with a pollen package visits another flower that had its pollinia taken away, the pollinia from the back of the insect are stripped off by the teeth and pressed into the stigma and the flower is pollinated. It's a one shot deal - each flower can only glue its pollinia to one insect and be pollinated by another one. Furthermore, often once one flower is pollinated on a plant, all the others whither and die as the orchid puts all its resources into the developing seed pod.

Knowing how the mechanism works, you can use it to hand-pollinate your Phalaenopsis. However, often you need two genetically different plants since most orchids are self-incompatible. Some hybrids might self-pollinate though. If you do get seed set, be warned that orchids are probably the hardest plants to grow from seeds! Most require a mycorrhizal fungus to grow. This is something for die-hard orchid lovers. Most commercially sold orchids are cloned through tissue culture because that is easier for mass production than growing them from seeds.

Die Helligkeit des Bildes sagt nichts aus, da Bild mit ‚Auto‘-Funktion gemacht.
we have installed mostly halogen track lighting for the specific reason that there are commercially available LED lights that fit these fixtures. an LED equivalent to a 35w halogen is about 8 watts (x 5 lights per track would only be 40 watts as opposed to 175 watts). right now they are a bit too expensive. i've seen some for $20+ a bulb. but we stumbled upon a sale of $7 a bulb and bought the store out. sometimes they flicker all weird but leaving one halogen in the track seems to solve that problem for some reason. here is to hoping that the bulbs get cheaper in the next year.

10% through this 366 now and I hope the first 10% is the hardest. Its at least made me realise what I lack in terms of equipment (off-camera lighting, props, macro lens), knowledge and imagination.
Hopefully the imminent lighter nights will allow me to get back to taking photos of things I like, rather than scratting about the house looking for inanimate objects to photograph.
These are halogen bulbs - and another example of the idea being better than the end result.

This Lighthouse was opened by Mr G O H Giles MP, Member for Wakefield on behalf of the Minister for Transport the Hon R J D Hunt MP, 29 September 1980. It has been an active unmanned light since that day.
The area is known for the treacherous Troubridge Shoal and nearby Marion Reef which by 1911 had claimed nineteen ships and a great loss of life.
It was built after a decision to downgrade the lighthouse on Troubridge Island to a low-powered automatic operation. The Troubridge Island light is now decommissioned.
Special wedge shaped clay bricks were custom made to build this unusual and unique conical lighthouse with balcony and lantern, it has never been rendered or painted. It is a distinct land mark on the peninsula.
It is designed to be resistant to high winds and earthquakes: in the twentieth century the area experienced numerous earthquakes.
Measuring 32 metres high, Troubridge Hill Lighthouse has a light range of 22 nautical miles and operates off mains electricity with a backup diesel alternator.
The brickwork construction system was innovative and earned an award from the South Australian Brick Association for an outstanding application of clay brickwork.
As it was intended for automatic operation the tower has no windows: it opened 1980 with the following technical details : -
Light source: Tungsten Halogen lamp arrays on revolving pedestal [due to high maintenance cost, these have been replaced with a more traditional rotating lens and electric lantern].
Power source: Mains supply with standby of diesel alternator and batteries
Character: 2 flashes every 15 seconds

Tower height: 32 metres
Elevation: 62 metres above sea level.

I made this piece a few years ago. The original work was modelled in sculpey. A silicone mold was prepared, and then this piece was cast from a transparent urethane compound. The photo is lit with LEDs, with a small amount of halogen fill. Thank goodness for mirror lockup. Please view one of the larger sizes to enjoy the bubbles and fingerprints.
