This Lighthouse was opened by Mr G O H Giles MP, Member for Wakefield on behalf of the Minister for Transport the Hon R J D Hunt MP, 29 September 1980. It has been an active unmanned light since that day.
The area is known for the treacherous Troubridge Shoal and nearby Marion Reef which by 1911 had claimed nineteen ships and a great loss of life.
It was built after a decision to downgrade the lighthouse on Troubridge Island to a low-powered automatic operation. The Troubridge Island light is now decommissioned.
Special wedge shaped clay bricks were custom made to build this unusual and unique conical lighthouse with balcony and lantern, it has never been rendered or painted. It is a distinct land mark on the peninsula.
It is designed to be resistant to high winds and earthquakes: in the twentieth century the area experienced numerous earthquakes.
Measuring 32 metres high, Troubridge Hill Lighthouse has a light range of 22 nautical miles and operates off mains electricity with a backup diesel alternator.
The brickwork construction system was innovative and earned an award from the South Australian Brick Association for an outstanding application of clay brickwork.
As it was intended for automatic operation the tower has no windows: it opened 1980 with the following technical details : -

I made this piece a few years ago. The original work was modelled in sculpey. A silicone mold was prepared, and then this piece was cast from a transparent urethane compound. The photo is lit with LEDs, with a small amount of halogen fill. Thank goodness for mirror lockup. Please view one of the larger sizes to enjoy the bubbles and fingerprints.
I just changed out my Halogen bulb (dead one on left) with a new LED bulb that only uses 3W of energy. It's a little longer in size than the Halogen, but since my fixture is so high up in the ceiling it doesn't matter. LED bulb is warm, and doesn't burn. I'm told it'll last about 20 years or so. Cost? $35 at my local lighting store.
I likely won't be in my house in 20 years...but what the hey, energy reduction is good, even though I'm paying more for it up front.

1st one I got had a problem with one of the LED's not lighting from the box. I exchanged it for a new one.
Seems to work fine so far. havent used it enough to completly drain the battery yet but it has good range on the Halogen the LED's are more general find your way about light. Got a car 12v charger for the cigarette lighter socket and a UK plug wall plug charger. Havent used the car one as I think its borked in me car.

The sets of halogen lights from the parking lot behind the fence create the reflections on the back side of the tree branches. The soft white lightbulb from the patio light is reflected off the stain applied on the support beams and bottom planks of the deck. The orange light reflects on the face of the tree trunk and branches as well as the fence. I only noticed that the halogen light reflection on the branches made it look as if it was glistening when examining pictures at home. It looks electric!
This photo is when using ISO 3200 with EV at 0. I believe this is reciprocal to the accompanying photo that has ISO 6400 setting with EV at -1.
Photos taken for the whole set of photos for this exercise at lower ISOs are not as well defined and my unsteady hand did not help any.
The whole set of photos for this exercise were inspired by Nicholas Hughes and his series of landscapes made at night.
The solar ray collector is illuminated with a halogen lamp of known light intensity. The heat energy absorbed by the collector can be calculated from the volume flow and the difference in the water temperatures at the inlet and outlet of the absorber, if the inlet temperature stays almost constant by releasing energy to a reservoir.

A small 20W halogen lamp (HL) produces some ultraviolet rays, mostly long wave UV (UVA) type but also little medium wave UV (on borderline with LW UV), although powerful halogen lamps give off much more MW (UVB) UV rays. This filtered lamp will produce fluoresence with optical brightener solution. The halogen lamp is inside a box and switched on for only short time.
Apparently, I'm feeling a little Magritte-y today. Which is really not like me. It's not like me at all, in fact, to do little shout-outs to artists that I may or may not like. I mean, Magritte's all right, but yeah, this just isn't like me at all.
So, about this peanut. It came from Hooverville (1721 1st Ave. S), a bar in the SoDo neighborhood of Seattle. We went there on Saturday for Dimo's birthday, an event that was joyous all around. They have peanuts there. And this peanut was all deformed. And Alyssa said, "You should take it and take pictures of it!" And so I did. So this, Alyssa, is for you. I do hope you like it.
Also, I had to withdraw $1,200 because I'm buying a car and the very thought terrifies me. Jesus Christ, I'm buying another car. "What if it's like the Blazer?" I ask myself, over and over again. "But this is a Volvo," my other half says. "It's a fine car that will be fine for a period of years. And that's all you need. Don't worry so much!"

This was lit with a halogen desk lamp, by the way. It was easier than getting the strobe(s) out and set up. I'm not a good little Strobist today at all. For shame. Also, this is not an HDR, it's just tonemapped in Photomatix. Also, while I was looking at the images, I noticed that my CMOS is totally filthy. Like, really, really filthy. It could really use a cleaning, but alas, I cannot afford it. Maybe when I get the check that should be wending its way toward me as I type. One hopes... one hopes.
