Unit #458, belonging to the Cranberry Township Police Department. This 2012 Chevy Caprice with a 6.0L V8. This is the last unit with the department with the old skin. Equipped with a Federal Signal Valor, single halogen spotlight, and a Pro Gard push bumper. This is their oldest unit, and is the next one to go.
I found two cats resting under the halogen heater yesterday. It was rain and cold.
The place was very near to the Akihabara station, but no body and no commodity in the old dusty shop except them.

I wanted to capture the white halogen light escaping from the overall warm, golden glow of my floor lamp. This is not a golden toned shade, but a pearlised inner coating on the white shade, that gives this effect. I realised that I could capture the escaping white light, (and make it 'pop' against the golden glow), by holding the camera at a very acute angle to the pleats.
Phew!
I'm not too sure if was worth all the explanation now!
Also, I appear to be obsessed with "Lines"; and, abstract representation...

"The new office building at Warrington Place is characterised by its highly modelled and three dimensional façade. This composition is contained by the oversailing bronze canopy roof. The substantial glazed sections are framed by stone panels and soffits, and the large curved drum adds drama to the façade and provides a focal point at this important junction.
The building overlooks the canal and its green spaces. This is reflected in the glazed panels which included mirrored elements. By night, the coloured lighting illuminates the shallow bulkheads that interface with the glazed wall.
The entrance forecourt balances the fluid bronze design of Michael Warren with the filigree structure that supports the glazed entrance canopy and glass fin walls of the foyer. Here slab cut-outs deliver light to lower ground floor. The bronze sculpture has direct dialogue with the material of the projecting boardroom box and the oversailing roofscape.
The floor plates are shallow in depth, receiving light from all façades, the indents in the façade bringing light deeper into the plan while accentuating the relief on the elevations. Small brise soleil elements emphasise the streamlined quality of the cantilevered bay adding additional depth to the façade.
Particular care has been taken to respect adjoining parapet lines in order to anchor the building within its immediate context. The transition from predominantly glazed to primarily solid treatment is made at these important interfaces in order to accommodate string course lines, window profiles and soffit positions with adjoining buildings.
From within, the building presents panoramic views across the city and towards the coastline. The terraces overlook the canal corridor and the Georgian character of its neighbours.
The collaboration of interior architects has delivered a fresh approach to office interiors. The entrance foyer with its bridge connection, use of reclaimed materials balanced with highly visual and modern elements; include lighting and furniture presenting a contemporary and up-to-date vision of the modern office.
The floor plates contain sleek metal ceiling tiles, and bulkheads to the perimeter which conceal feature lighting. Floor to ceiling high performance glazing stretches around the external envelope.
The building accommodates a myriad of sustainable design features; these coupled with the strong contextual architecture of the scheme will secure its future for coming generations."

I started with two submissions but I think I agree with the comments thus far and prefer this shot so I have taken the other down. It is still in my stream if you are curious.
WIT: Set up the fruit on a cutting board, lit with a single halogen and a homemade snoot out of construction paper.
In CS4 did some cloning and used a texture provided by ghostbones (Thank you very much!)
Bought me some H7 Xenon look bulbs for high beams. Looks a little bit better than normal bulbs.
Couldn't pass them up at 3 euro for a set :)
In response to being called a dork yesterday, I am continuing being so. This is some of the loot I got at the geocaching event yesterday.
These are "geocoins", which are trackable. People can go to a website and say, "I found this here, and placed it there." Or, they can keep them as souvenirs. I generally place geocoins that I find, because I want them to travel like they were meant to. Confused? That's OK, because it is part of the geocaching ethic that "muggles" don't get.
Heck, even cachers don't understand... which why they keep the coins.
Anyways, clockwise from top center:
* The Muddy Buddie's 25th Anniversary pathtag. They struck these for the event.
* The old Texas Geocaching coin. I bought 20 of these, and put 19 out in caches. Those 19 have disappeared... kept by cachers. I got this one as a door prize. I'll keep it.
* MAES pathtag. MAES is a cacher. I think it is purty. He wanted me to keep it, and to give him one when I strike my own pathtag.
* The new Texas Geocaching coin, struck and sold as a fundraiser for the Texas Geocaching website. I bought two, and plan to give one to my pals when I see them over Labor Day in Baton Rouge.
I have many more coins, most that I have bought. My most valuable is one of the very first USA Geocoins, that I got from a lady cacher friend. She almost helped take the picture for my "nude cache" find... that's a fun story for another time, but it is as bad as it sounds. LOL!

As the photographer in the family, I have been given the job of photographing items to be sold on the family business website www.thegeniescave.co.uk or on eBay. There is quite a bit of variety (if you think about what might be found in a cave belonging to a genie!) and I quite enjoy doing it. ..This image was taken using a small light tent illuminated by a pair of halogen lamps of the type commonly found in bathroom or kitchen ceilings.

This is the last spectrum picture for the moment... I broke my spectrometer.
This is my 750 watt halogent light. As you can see, the spectrum is very smooth -- no spectral lines like the LCD or the CFL bulbs. That's because it emits light differently.
Atoms and molecules have electrons in certain orbits -- when those electrons move from a higher energy state to a lower one, they emit a photon at a very specific wavelength. This causes spectral lines. That's how flourescent bulbs and LCDs work. There's another type of light emitted called black body radiation, and this light is caused by the heat of the object. Incandescent and halogen bulbs have a filament that gets extremely hot and gives off light in a smooth spectrum. So does the sun, and the heating elements in electric ranges and stoves. Our bodies give off black body radiation too, but the wavelength is too long for us to see. It's deep in the infrared.
So a 750 watt halogen bulb gives off a LOT of heat. I had my spectrograph too close to it, and the razor blades I used to make a slit soaked up all that heat. I used hot glue to keep the razor blades in place. Hot glue melts at a fairly low temperature, so my razor blades fell off :-(
Here's that same Halogen light bulb again. I came across this little bulb in looking for something that would fit my enlarger for film processing. Little did I know that this item would end up being a subject of my photography. Anyhow, I really liked the colors that these reflectors (refractors), caused within the bulb.
There are so many colors, so many little reflections that it almost feels like you could get lost in there.

While having afternoon tea in a tea room no less in North Yorks I looked up and spotted this halogen spotlamp hanging from its socket. The rear projected light cast a wonderful star pattern on the roof and I knew with a bit of coaxing in Photoshop I could make it look more interesting (I think) so here it is.
The old halogen up-lighting on this facade was worn and almost irreparable, so this year, the mall replaced the old ground lighting with energy efficient HID lighting attached to the side of the building.
The torch is one of those cheap Chinese lead-acid accumulator high power tungsten halogen things. The bulb is 12V 30 watt, which is a dim domestic room light kind of power, or a good reading light, and being tungsten halogen has a smooth colour spectrum of the warm white kind of temperature, good for portraits of palefaces :-)
To adapt it from long focused beam to wide smooth flood I lined the reflector with white paper. That destroys the beam and gives a smooth diffuse output, but the naked bulb is still visible making it still mostly a hard point source. So here I'm firing it through a small translucent white diffuser held in front of the torch glass by long notched sticks held in place by rubber bands.
This demonstration shows it making a brave attempt at being powerful enough to do shadow fill on a sunny day. It's bungeed to a light stand. Almost powerful enough!
But it does work as a pretty bright light when used like this indoors. In fact it's bright enough to be still pretty bright indoors when the diffuser is simply a piece of white paper taped over the front. Quite bright enough to do useful bounces off pale walls and ceilings to augment existing interior artificial lighting. The advantage over a flash is that you can see exactly what effect the light is having.
The sticks and rubber bands have very nasty habits, verging on the outright malicious, so I think I'll give up on trying for that kind of large external diffuser. Easy portability and deployment is the key thing here. So throwing a white translucent pop up laundry bag over it might be a better way of turning it into a large soft light source. Pop up laundry bags are much cheaper than light tents and at least almost as good.
As you can see this photograph was taken three months ago. The project has been delayed by the well known difficulty of finding a suitable round tuit :-)

Through the use of extremely high output 3 W LEDs, this lamp is much brighter compared to similarly sized halogen lamps, and has a longer burntime.
Selected LED: These premium LEDs are selected by the LED manufacturer to have a light output from 67.2 to 87.2 Fluxi for the same power input. These LED emitters are considerably brighter than the standard LED emitter and share the same burn times.
Properly focused beam
The focusing of the LED beam is tight enough to meet the needs of cave divers. Until now, no LED lamp on the market has a tight enough focus for cave diving use. This focusing was achieved through a specially manufactured reflector. Until now it was normal for 50% of the available light not to be focused by the reflector/lens combination. This unfocused light spreads out to the sides and doesn't do the cave diver any good. A tightly focused efficient light beam is also advantageous for normal open water diving.
Because of this the Heser-Backup is also used as a main light for open water diving.

A large reflector can more efficiently focus the LEDs output than a small reflector. Many LED lamp manufacturers use a smaller, less efficient reflector/lens unit, thereby saving money. We don't.

Since LEDs are shockresistant, and the LED junction emits light almost forever (50000 hours) these lamps are highly reliable.

The completly sealed LED unit keep on working also in a flooded housing.
Good cooling of the LED
Due to the nickel plated aluminium battery tube efficient cooling of LED is guaranteed. This is not only important for the efficiency of the LED, it is also very important for reliability of the LED. The manufacturer of the LED place many emphasis on importance of adequate cooling for reliable function of the LED. The LED-unit itself don't solve the cooling problem.
No electronic control
The decision to eliminate controlling electronics provides the following advantages for use as a Backup light:
Increased Reliability
Electronics can get damaged by water or shock, and become unusable.
Increased burn time
An electrically controlled LED is always using the maximum power that the circuit is designed for. The advantage is constant brightness until the batteries are completely discharged. The battery voltage drops during the discharge cycle, and the control electronics will compensate this drop by increasing current to the LED. Towards the end of the battery discharge cycle the current draw is at the highest level and the batteries rapidly die with little to no warning. Without control electronics the current draw drops along with the battery voltage. The disadvantage is the LED becomes dimmer as the voltage drops. The advantage is the burn time increases dramatically. This can be an enormous advantage for a diver who needs light since the burn time provided by the electronics is no longer working against him. Due to the elimination of control electronics the lamp is capable of delivering enough light for over 8 hours.
Compensation of battery weakness
If one of the batteries would become week, maybe caused by a battery failure, the electronic controller would raise the current to compensate the lake of voltage. Without a controller the current goes down an reduces the load of the batteries. In such a case, the LED burns weaker but much longer.
Long burn time
Due to the use of an LED and the elimination of electronic controls, the lamp is capable of providing sufficient light for 8 hours and longer (depending on the type of batteries you select).
On holiday you can use it as main light for night dives. Most times one battery set is enough for all night dives. You do not have to charge akkus during your holiday or maintain akkus until to the next holiday.

The outer housing are only two parts. There is only one sealing edge. More sealing edges would rise the rise of leaking.
The seal uses 2 O-Rings for added reliability
The only opening is sealed with 2 O-Rings, one behind the other. This reduces the possibility of a seal failure which can be caused by sediment deposited on the outside O-Ring. If the outside O-Ring seal leaks, the inner O-Ring will still be sealing the opening.
Precision machined top quality metal internals
All internal parts are precision machined. No cheap metal stampings are used. The reflector is made from a solid piece of brass. The battery tube is made from an Aluminium tube with 2mm wall thickness and is nickel plated. The Bottom of the battery tube is made from a solid piece of stainless steel. The contact spring is also stainless steel.
Heat produced by the LED is returned to the batteries
Usable battery capacity is temperature dependent and drops with low temperatures. If you can use the waste heat of the LED to warm the batteries the available battery capacity increases. This is why this lamp returns the heat produced by the LED to the batteries.
Textured, non-slip lamp body
The lamp body is turned from a solid rod. The axial channels and roughened middle section make the lamp easy to hold with wet hands and gloves. The rubber hood on the lamp head is also nonslip.
Simple switch mechanism
The lamp is switched on by simply turning the lamphead. This joins the reflector to the heat-conducting battery tube which completes the circuit and also conducts heat to the batteries.
Usable with primary and rechargeable batteries
The lamp can be used with 3 Alkaline "C" Cells or with 3 NiMH rechargeable batteries. (If you use NiMH batteries, you should ask the battery manufacturer if a hydrogen catalyser is required. Use is NiMH batteries is, of course, at your own risk.) Due to the extremely long burn time compared to normal lamps, one set of alkaline batteries will probably last for a whole vacation's night dives. Therefore you don't need to provide the care needed to properly maintain a set of rechargeable batteries.
