Swap-Bot Group HMPC: Handmade Halloween PC swap.

Leaves stamped from my own carvings. The map piece is from an old Chinese atlas that someone used to plan a trip in the 70s. Various other paper scraps and used postage stamps. My partner is a mail carrier - that "go green / choose to walk" stamp always makes me think of mail carriers, even though it's just regular people out for a walk.

Challenge was to create anatomical mail art. I carved bones of the inner ear because I liked the spiraly bits and the various negative spaces. Printed on monoprinted paper.

One of my Time-Life books had a full page spread of a flock of turkeys. And someone sent me a note recently on this chef-shaped piece of notepaper. So then I started imagining the turkeys marching on - or into? - the chef's belly. It kind of works. Unfortunately it got a bit muddy visually, so I added the dogs and flowers to try to brighten it up (they are less muted than in the scan). I also added some white gel pen outlining the turkeys after scanning.

Gouache scraped over card stock ("TRUE" - what is true?? I don't remember! was it from BioKIDS, maybe??) on which I'd glued some strips from a Korean cookbook. Magazine scraps and clippings, strips of fancy paper, Mayan symbols from a Trader Joe's candy wrapped, wrapping paper, a strip of napkin, etc etc.
