Known to the Hawaiians as Le'ahi, Diamond Head is a 300,000 year old tuff cone formed from an explosive erutpion. The crater is 3,520 feet in diameter and summits at 761 feet. The summit is the site of a lost heiau (ancient Hawaiian temple of other sacred site), and was used for coastal defense by the U.S. Army through the first half of the 20th century. Honolulu, Hawaii. The Pacific Aviation Museum occupies historic spaces on Ford Island in Pearl Harbor. Its most iconic structure is the old Ford Island Control Tower. The tower was under construction when Pearl Harbor was attacked in 1941. Exhibits include the wreckage of a Japanese plane that crashed on the Island of Ni'ihau, one of only two fixed-wing Wildcats, and a civilian plane that was caught in the middle of the Japanese formations as they approached Pearl Harbor. The new Tennessee State Museum building opened in October 2018. Telling the story of the Tennessee from prehistoric times through the modern era, its vast collection is well worth a visit. Featured artifacts include one of Daniel Boone's rifles; a rare 13-star U.S. flag with the original 6-pointed stars first mandated by Congress before the flag was changed to 5-pointed stars; a coat made by future-president Andrew Johnson when he was still a tailor; chairs used during Civil Rights sit-ins; and outfits and instruments used by Dolly Parton, Tina Turner, Elvis Presley, and Johnny Cash. The New York-class battleship USS Texas (BB 35) was in commission from 1914 - 1948. It is one of the few American ships (and only battleship left) that served in both World Wars I and II. The ship has been a museum since 1948. La Porte, Texas. (Nathanael Miller, 01 Nov. 2018)

Nick in The Wright Cycle company building. This building, part of the park, was rented by the brothers from 1895 - 1897, just before moving to the shop in which they developed the airplane. Bannack State Park preserves the ghost town of Bannack. Bannack was founded in 1862 and was the first gold-rush boom town in Montana. Bannack lasted through World War II before finally beginning to die out. The state park pretty much "freezes" the town in time after the last few residents left the old ghost town in the 1970s. Details of the CSS Neuse wreckage. The CSS Neuse Civil War Interpretive Center houses the salvaged wreckage of the Confederate ironclad CSS Neuse. Built on and sunk in the Neuse River, the Neuse yielded the largest collection of artifacts of any Confederate ironclad. On board the ferry Yankee Freedom III to Fort Jefferson on Garden Key in the Dry Tortugas. Nearly 70 miles west of Key West, the Dry Tortugas mark the end of the third largest barrier reef in the world. (Nathanael Miller, 26 July 2017)
15" Rodman cannon, capable of throwing shell 3 miles. Fort Jefferson on Garden Key in the Dry Tortugas. Fort Jefferson is the largest, most powerful masonry fort in the entire United States and was designed to maintain control of the entry way (and some nearby deep water anchorages) to the Gulf of Mexico. Built from 1846 - 1975 out of more than 16 million bricks, it was never finished. Dr. Samuel Mudd was held here for nearly four years after setting the broken legg of John Wilkes Boothe following the assasination of President Lincoln. Centennial Park was the site of the 1897 Tennessee Centennial and International Exposition. Today the full-scale replica of the ancient Athenian Parthenon is the only structure left. Me and USS Utah. USS Utah (BB 31 / AG 16) is the *other* ship still resting in Pearl Harbor following the 1941 attack. Converted from battleship to gunnery target vessel, the ship was nonetheless attacked and hit with torpedos, capsizing it. The Navy only partially righted the ship, and 58 men still like entombed inside it. Today viistors see part of the starboard side superstructure protruding above the water. Utah was commissioned in 1911 and was not decommissioned until 1944 (nearly three years after being sunk). Honolulu, Hawaii. (Nathanael Miller. 20 April 2018)

Me standing just under two miles from Mount St. Helens. Rising to 8,363 feet, Mount St. Helens lost about 1,300 feet from its height during the eruption of May, 1980. The entire north face of the mountain broke away in the largest landslide in recorded history, resulting in a lateral eruption that killed 57 poeple and temporarily blasted nearby Spirit Lake clear out of its bed. Today a massive lava dome occupies the center of the crater. Mount St. Helens remains the currently most active of the Cascade volcanoes. Washington State. (15 June 2019; Nathanael Miller)

Albus the Crab on Hoover Dam. Spanning the Colorado River between Nevada and Arizona, Hoover Dam creates Lake Meade and is one of the key electrical power and irrigation facilities in the southwestern U.S. Completed in 1936, the dam is 726 feet high and holds back about 10 trillion gallons of water. The Mike O'Callaghan–Pat Tillman Memorial Bridge was completed in 2010 to eliminate the traffic bottleneck on the dam, and is the second-highest bridge in the U.S. Hoover Dam, Nevada-Arizona. A model of the 1902 Wright glider at Carillon Park during "A Carillon Christmas." The park features exhibits and buildings telling the story of Dayton from 1796 to the present day. Among the exhibits house on the park grounds are the Wright Flyer III from 1905, a section and lock from the old Miami and Eerie Canal, and a massive collection of cash registers (the cash register was invented in Dayton in 1879). New Bridge Landing was the site of a wooden bridge (replaced in teh 19th century with a metal swing-span) that was a critical point to the successful escape of Gen. Washington's Continental Army after the defeats in New York in November 1776. The Jan Zabriskie-Steuben House was confiscated from the loyalist Zabriskie family and given to Baron Von Steuben. He later sold in back to the Zabriskie family. Gen. Washington used the house as his HQ during the retreat and enacampment here. Hackensack, New Jersey. (Nathanael Miller, 18 July 2018)

Albus the Crab at the Maryland State House. The Maryland State House was dates to 1772, and is the oldest state house in the nation in continuous operation. Additioanlly, it was the sight of General Washington's famous resignation of command following the Revolutionary War. It briefly served as the capital of the United States under the Articles of Confederation government from 1783 - 1784. It was carved over over millions of years by the underground Styx and Echo rivers, which empty into the Green River. Old Town in the heart of Albuquerque dates to Albuquerque's founding in 1706. Today it features numerous shops and vendors selling both Mexican and local hand-made American Indian jewelry, pottery, and other crafts...as well as the more traditional souvenirs that are inevitably made in China.
