Founded in 1881 by 17-year-old Albert Friedrich. Friedrich took antlers in exchange for drinks during the saloon's early days. Teddy Roosevelt frequented the Buckhorn while mobilizing for the Spanish-American War, and his bison horn chair and field desk are on display. It's 210 feet tall and contains a massive shrine room, underneath of which is a 30,000 square foot museum depicting the history of Indiana's involvement in all the nation's wars. The Grand Canyon Railway originated in 1901 when the Atchison, Topeka and Santa Fe Railway completed a line from Williams to the South Rim of the Grand Canyon Village. Today the line maintains several historic engines and cars, and runs day trips to the canyons aboard the historic diesel locomotives. The steam engines are maintained but not regularly run. Engine 539 originally ran for 40 years in the Pacific Northwest, and was eventually acquired by the Grand Canyon Railway in 2007. It is a "2-8-2" locomotive, meaning two leading wheels (one on each side), eight power wheels (four on each side), and two trailing wheels under the cab (one on each side). Williams, Arizona. Devils Tower is an igneous formation standing 867 feet (265 m) from summit to base. It is the erosional remnant of an ancient volcanic system dating form over 50 million agos. Devils Tower was the first declared national monument (declared by Pres. Theodore Roosevelt in 1906). It was made famous in the 1979 film " Close Encounters of the Third Kind." It is also a VERY sacred place to the people of many of the first nations across the northern American west, so be respectful when you visit. Hulett, Wyoming. (Nathanael Miller, 11 Aug. 2018)

The Branson Scenic Railway operates out of the historic 1905 depot in Branson, using engines and rolling stock built during the 1940s and 1950s. The line's southern route takes it to the Barren Fork Valley in Arkansas. Branson, Missouri. (Nathanael Miller, 4 April 2018)

Two of the oldest markers in the Pigeon Creek Cemetery (both belonging to the Alexander family). Established in 1932 adjacent to the land where the Lincoln farm stood, the Lincoln State Park preserves land that was central to the Little Pigeon Creek community Lincoln grew up in. Spanning the Colorado River between Nevada and Arizona, Hoover Dam creates Lake Meade and is one of the key electrical power and irrigation facilities in the southwestern U.S. Completed in 1936, the dam is 726 feet high and holds back about 10 trillion gallons of water. The Mike O'Callaghan–Pat Tillman Memorial Bridge was completed in 2010 to eliminate the traffic bottleneck on the dam, and is the second-highest bridge in the U.S. Hoover Dam, Nevada-Arizona. Carhenge was built by Jim Reinders as a memorial to his father and dedicated during the June, 1987 eclipse. It replicates Stonehenge, but also incluces an adjacent "auto-art" park. The auto-art features a station wagon repurposed into an homage to the wagons which brought the settlers west and a a peice called "The Fourd Seasons," five vertical cars (two are welded together, end to end) representing the seasons in Nebraska. Elkhorn is a real-live dead Old West mining ghost town. Established in 1872, the town boomed during the 1890s and died when the mine played out and the railroad left in the 20th century. Two structures, Gillian and Fraternity Halls, are maintained as part of Elkhorn State Park (both built in the 1890s). Many of the graves in the cemetery are of children killed by a late 19th century diptheria outbreak. There are about a dozen people still living there today. Elkhorn, Montana. Albus the Crab visits the Eldean Covered Bridge over the Great Miami River. Built in 1860, it is 224 feet long, and the longest suriviving example of a Long Truss bridge (as developed by Stephen H. Long in 1830) in the country. Troy, Ohio. (Nathanael Miller, 4 Jan. 2018)

Pikes Peak reaches a height of 14,115 feat, though its summit can be blocked by early winter storms due ot its extreme height. The Museum of Idaho had its genesis in the 1898 ladies' Village Improvement Society club. The museum tells the storhy of Idaho from prehistory through the present day. It's current temporary exhibit is the world premier of Bruce Rosenbaum's Steampunk artwork, honoring such visonaries and inventors as Mary Shelly, Jan Ernst Matzeliger, George Eastman, Jules Verne, and H.G. Looking for all the world like a quaint, classic 19th century structure, the Canal Greenway bridge was built in 1992. It crosses a creek that runs through the old Ohio Canal railroad towpath--today a multi-use hiking/biking trail. The towpath and bridge run parallel to the modern Canal Road. Hebron, Ohio. Kuaua Pueblo was founded around AD 1325 and is the northernmost of 12 communities. It's name translates to "evergreen" in the Tiwa language. Francisco Vásquez de Coronado's expedition encountered Kuaua in 1540 and sacked the village for supplies. The original foundations are buried to keep them protected; the ruins seen above ground trace the footprint of the village Bernalillo, New Mexico. (Nathanael Miller. 04 Jan. 2019)
