I started in March and ended in October, so seven months. I hiked 21 times, as short as a mile and as long as 8.5 miles at a time. I hiked on our Western Michigan Chapter Hikes, maintenance days, and attended the NCTA Celebration in Fargo. Sometimes I hiked alone and sometimes in groups as large as 30! I am proud of myself, since I am 61 and still hiking! I enjoyed every minute of all the different experiences. I think my favorites were the Prairies in ND and the fall woods of Michigan here in Newaygo County.

We hiked many state parks in Minnesota on the North Shore. Only three of our miles were on the NCT in Wisconsin. Since I live in Wisconsin, I really enjoyed seeing the scenery on the North Shore on the SHT and the Willard Munger trail. I am 70 years old and love to hike so this was the perfect challenge for me.

Had great fun hiking the beautiful North Country Trail. Began earlier in the year, took a break over the summer, then completed our miles in September, October, and November. Hiked several days in November on snow shoes after a big storm; ended the 100 by hiking (and cleaning) our section of the trail in a light snow fall. Found a "kill" and saw a wolf print in the snow yesterday!

Winter in Yellowstone National Park

I have been hiking the North Country Trail in the Western Pennsylvania state game lands for a few years. I decided last year to become a member of the Wampum chapter. I received a nice welcome letter from the Chapter encouraging me to come to the monthly meetings. After attending a meeting I decided to adopt a 4 mile section of trail near my home. I love walking here and most of my miles were walked here doing maintenance throughout the year. Other miles that I hiked were during the monthly hikes that the chapter holds.

We live in Dayton, Ohio and love to hike the trails in our local parks. The North Country Trail, using the Buckeye Trail corridor, passes through Dayton and very close to our house. We saw a notice for a hike in February to start the challenge and decided to go. It was a cold, snowy day and we missed the group, but did meet another person wanting to hike so we took off on the beginning of our adventure. Over the next eight months we did lots of hiking, but never again on the North Country Trail. Near us, the trail is primarily bike path and city streets - we often bike it, but usually do not hike it. In late October we decide it was time to get serious about completing this challenge. We have hiked out and back loops eleven times without repeating any sections. Our shortest day was 6 miles (the first one we did) and the longest was 11.5. We have enjoyed seeing where the trail goes in our area and there are still miles that we can explore in 2017 without having to drive far.

We completed the entire section of the NCT maintained by the Grand Traverse Hiking Club, all 105 miles. Our first 2016 challenge hike took place on May 6. We finished the last section on October 7. It was an on/off process but we enjoyed every mile - from the bountiful wild flowers of Spring to the reds and yellows of Fall's changing leaves. We were very fortunate to have great friends experience this beautiful trail with us and help out with shuttles for point-to-point hiking. Thanks to the National Park Service for all its support for the NCT. This was a fun way to celebrate the 100th anniversary.

Photo taken on Day 5 of our back along the Wokkpash Lopp route in Stone Mountain and Northern Rocky Mountain Provincial Parks in northern British Columbia. This day we day hiked in the Forlorn Lake area and up to Mt. Saint Magnus viewpoints.

100+ miles of great hiking through the Allegheny National Forest, the Hocking Hills Region, Slippery Rock Gorge and more!

Fresh and clean again!

Thank you for the Hike 100 Challenge. Spending time outdoors is something we enjoy but having this challenge got us outdoors even more. We experienced some great hiking along the North Shore of Lake Superior and in the Chequamegon National Forest. The variety of scenery and landscape seemed endless. Looking forward to exploring other sections of this great natural resource. Thanks again, Chris & Ron Kendziera

Me and my dog Patrick have completed our 100 miles!!! It's very beautiful up there!!!! I love the trail!!!

Fall is here

Hear the yell, "Back to school!"

Ring the bell

Brand new shoes

Walking blues

Climb the fence

Books and pens

I can tell that we are gonna be friends

Walk with me, Susie Lee

Through the park and by the tree

We will rest upon the ground

And look at all the bugs we found

Safely walk to school without a sound

Here we are, no one else

We walk to school all by ourselves

There's dirt on our uniforms

From chasing all the ants and worms

We clean up and now it's time to learn

Numbers, letters, learn to spell

Nouns and books and show-and-tell

Playtime, we will throw the ball

Back to class, through the hall

Teacher marks our height against the wall

We don't notice any time pass

We don't notice anything

We sit side by side in every class

Teacher thinks that I sound funny

But she likes the way you sing

Tonight I'll dream while I'm in bed

When silly thoughts go through my head

About the bugs and alphabet

When I wake, tomorrow I'll bet

That you and I will walk together again

I can tell that we are gonna be friends

Two good friends hiked all 100 miles on the Finger Lakes Trail/NCT in New York State. Saw lots of glorious gullies and fabulous forests. No much wildlife, but we did have a close encounter with some cows. On one hike in Allegany County, we had to enter the trail through a gated cow pasture. As we unlocked the gate several of the residents ambled over to inspect the intruders. We were surrounded. Speaking to the herd in a gentle voice, we hastily relocked the gate, squeezed past their large bodies, and found the trail. Fortunately they did not follow.

Hiked some new miles and some old favorites. As always, was a GREAT experience for self, nature and spirit - get out there people!

A set from July 2015, a quick overnight backpack to Ilal Meadows with some friends. It is a nice area in the Coquihalla with alpine meadows and many nice granite peaks.

For years, hiking has been one of my favorite pastimes, and I just keep getting more and more into it. Events like the North Country Trail 100 help motivate me to get out there more. I did most of my hiking at Burr Oak State Park, Tappan Lake and the Wayne National Forest (Marietta Unit). The NCT 100 really got me out and exploring places I hadn't hiked before and I'm grateful for that. We are really fortunate to have so many great hiking trails in Ohio and organizations like the North Country Trail Association and the Buckeye Trail Association making these trails possible.

I completed most of my miles trail running in the Moraine State Park area. Headed north to Jennings Environmental Center, also. Enjoying the trail & look forward to exploring more of it in the future.

Freedom.

Day four saw our only significant elevation gain on this trip. We went up the Plug Creek drainage (~650m gain) and then entered really nice alpine areas and camped at Last Call Lake. Photo taken on the Wokkpash Loop in Stone Mountain Provincial Park, British Columbia, Canada.
