This morning I finally went for it and hiked the Raven Rocks portion of the Appalachian Trail. It has been years since I last hiked this trail and I was worried I might not have been in the kind of shape required to hike this trail, but it looks like the visits to the gym and walks around the neighborhood have paid off. Nature has always been a great source of peace and inspiration, so I brought my iPad in hopes of composing a little ambient track in Garageband, inspired by my surroundings. I included a little snippet here in the post, though it might still need some work. I also tried to get some sketching in, but the yellow jackets kept paying me a visit. Must’ve been the tasty treats I brought along, so I eventually had to cut my stay short and scram. These two male horses were apart and separate from the rest of the herd. It’s hard to imagine they are wild horses when they obviously were not bothered by our presence. I only had my 24-70mm lens on and this shot is at 70mm. I switched to my long lens after this as I felt this was just a bit too close. Great clarity, though!

Well I don't normally eat seafood, but you know I was on the west coast and all............. a couple hours later I barfed and barfed and barfed........ not sure if it was the crab or not but something did not agree with me.

This Hike 100 adventure was a great way to get out and explore the beautiful area I currently live in. I have hiked the trail before, but only stuck to a stretch of it near Marquette. Through this journey I have explored much more of the Upper Peninsula and the quiet woods that I cherish so dearly. There are so many places people travel to in order to "get out and explore", but some of the best country to explore is along the NCT.
