I was wondering whether I should try a 645 format for weddings? Part of me thinks that if I master 35mm it will be enough for most cases, then again....!
Lets Get Rocked
Def Leppard
Seven day weekend, up all night
In at the deep end, hang on tight
It won't take a minute, it won't take long
So get on in it, come on, come on, come on
Let's get, let's get, let's get, let's get rocked
Let's get, let's get, let's get, let's get rocked
Let's go all the way
Get it night'n'day
Come on, let's get, let's get, let's get, let's get rocked
I swear, Christmas morning cant come fast enough!! I cant wait to get back to this location with a Pano Head!
An American Redstart starts it's morning on the hunt for some nice juicy green grubs. They are active warblers that startle insects out of hiding. this one was so busy in his search for grubs he did not mind getting it's photo taken.
We are stardust
We are golden
And we've got to get ourselves
Back to the garden
The words comes from Joni Mitchell and they concern the music weekend that defined a generation: Woodstock. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Woodstock
In July of 1969 we landed the first men on the moon and it seemed that even outer space was no longer a limit to human achievement. On August 15-18, exactly a month later, nearly half a million young people arrived on Max Yasgur’s farm in Bethel, New York (40 miles south of the eponymous Woodstock). They were there as Joni Mitchell’s song describes it,
I'm going on down to Yasgur's Farm
I'm gonna join in a rock and roll band
I'm gonna camp out on the land
I'm gonna try and get my soul free
“Try and get my soul free”. The Hippies were known for wanting to explore their inner space, and Woodstock was going to be the pinnacle of Hippiedom (“An Aquarian Festival of Peace and Music”). It turned out far from that ideal. The weather was terrible, the planning haphazard, facilities dangerously inadequate, and serious drug abuse was rife. The only thing these festival attendees seemed to have in common was an opposition to the Vietnam War. But you can’t build a viable culture merely opposing something. The Garden of Eden that Joni Mitchell envisaged turned quickly into a pile of mud, overflowing toilets, and drug overdoses.
If that description seems a little harsh then look up the Isle of Wight Festival that took place in Britain a year later (26-31 August, 1970). That ended in a full scale riot. 1970 was also the year that Jimi Hendrix and Janis Joplin died of drug overdoses in close succession. But if we’re really looking for a marker of the end of Hippiedom, then look no further than the free Rolling Stones concert at Altamont in California (6 December, 1969). www.youtube.com/watch?v=QFJPdpwVaWk
300,000 people were there and the security hired was the infamous Hell’s Angels motorcycle gang. In the literal bloodbath that followed, the dream of a generation of peace and love came crashing to the ground.
Why is it that we can’t find our way back to Paradise? Perhaps that’s the fatal flaw of Ego, believing in the first place that we have the resources to achieve the impossible dream. One of my pet hates is the motivational phrase, “You can achieve whatever you want. There are no limits.” Well the physical universe says otherwise. And in fact if we try to defeat the laws of gravity, entropy and thermodynamics we’ll find ourselves reduced to the stardust that Joni Mitchell was alluding to. In the end death awaits us all. It’s not a question of if, but when and how, and we can’t even always choose the latter.
But one day two thousand years ago, a Jewish teacher named Jesus of Nazareth was arrested and nailed to a Roman cross. Beside him were two thieves. One of them dared Jesus saying, “You say you are the Son of God. If so then, save yourself and us.” The other thief in a moment of repentant reflection answered him, “We deserve our fate, but this man has done nothing wrong. Now is the time to fear God.” And Jesus looked over to this man and said to him these words of hope, “This day my friend, you will be with me in Paradise.”
We’ve just got to get ourselves back to the Garden.
“Woodstock” performed by Crosby, Still, Nash and Young (still the best version).
Even though we have to be careful we can at last we all get a little bit closer and I'm looking forwards to playing Squash again and being able to get other people to take them photos of me instead of relying on selfies.
Amtrak ACS64 #642 had just been tied on to train #80 at Washington DC. The carmen were in the process of connecting all the air and electric lines. After an air test, we left for the big apple. 642 can be a tempermental engine. Luckily for us, she gave us no trouble on tonight's run.
Merlyn and I ran for our freedom. Over the fences, around the watchtowers and onto a small boat. Merlyn jumped into the driver's and used all the power the boat had to speed us away. Meanwhile, I found a bag in the back of the boat. Inside was a bunch of police equipment such as handcuffs and radios, but one thing struck my eye, a small hand gun. It only had a couple of bullets in, but a couple of bullets was enough for me. "Where you taking us?" I had to shout to get my voice heard over the roaring engine.
"I am going to take us to the south GCPD headquarters."
"Wait a minute! So instead of running away from the police, we are gonna head straight to them?"
"Yes. But not to get caught again, we need to get our gear. If you want to kill Amanda Waller you can't do it in a orange jumpsuit. This GCPD headquarters is the only one which holds the confiscated items." Merlyn had a point, if we wanted to get to Amanda, we had to use stealth, we had to blend in and I don't think orange is the best blending in type color. As we were talking, Merlyn finally made it to the shore. Luckily for us the GCPD building was right on the shore line. The building seemed silent, rundown and empty. The paint on the walls were beginning to come off. The desked had cold cups of coffee on them, and unfinished paperwork. It seemed me and Merlyn could've just walked through the building without a worry. But then, from behind us, came a small voice, "Don't move!" said the voice. As we turned we saw a scared police officer, sweating as he tried to keep grip of his gun. I could see Merlyn was ready to do some weird ninja move on the cop, so before he did, I got out the gun I found and shot the policeman right through the neck. As we turned back, many lockers stood over us. Each of them named for whose belongings were inside. "Scarecrow," I said in my head "Clock King, Hugo Strange, Deadshot bingo!" I opened my locker to be greeted by my suit. Quickly I wriggled into it and got my helmet on. Then as I looked into the locker again, a flood of pistols came out, followed by some ammunition packs, and then my trusty assault rifle.
"Thats a lot of guns you got there." said Merlyn as he got into his ancient karate gear and his bow and arrows.
"What can I say," I replied "you gotta love a good old pistol."
Hope you like it :D

I shot in DX mode which crops away the extra pixels and takes me 1.5X closer while allowing for up to 7 FPS with the Nikon D810's Nikon MB-D12 Battery Grip using the 8 AA battery option! 8 Duracles took me through around 3,000 shots no problem--maybe more! I was shooting at the equivalent of 900mm with the 1.5x crop factor! Pretty close! Had I gone with the Nikon D4s, I would have gotten 12 fps, but no DX crop factor, as the sensor has only around 14mp, compared to the d810's 36 megapixels! Sure the larger pixel size on the Nikon D4s full frame sensor comes in handy indoors or at night, but in the brigth sun, there's more than enough light for the smaller pixels in crop mode! Sure we lose some pixels from the outer edges when shooting in DX crop mode, but most of those pixels would be cropped away in lightroom anyway. And the smaller files make the memory cards last longer, while also upping the FPS to 7 shots per second! Not quite 12 FPS< but still awesome and enough I felt!

So far, we haven't seen another person. There is a well-worn trail, most of the tracks are from deer.
The Ute Trail runs mostly through wilderness, from high on the rim down 1,200 feet to the Gunnison River.
Getting there was a trip through desert badlands, the last 2.5 miles on the "Smith Mountain Jeep Road", a rough 4WD track that tested the Elements abilities.
Didn't seem necessary to climb that much to get to the canyon rim, but there it was.
