SSC - A Quiet Place

"That special moment when everything is quiet ( difficult at this time of year) but maybe when you’re just having 5 minutes. Or perhaps just before everyone wakes up the streets are still sleepy. Takes us with you for your interpretation of some quiet time.

Have a good week everyone"

At the moment most of my time is spent in a quiet place. My interpretation of this weeks challenge is to go to a place I am always happy. It achieves in so many ways for me, as said it's a place I am always happy, it provides sustenance, allows for creativity, can be shared with friends, and more, it relaxes me and is a place to destress, even simple tasks are therapeutic! Where am I my kitchen of course and in this case preparing breakfast which I think is possibly the most important meal of the day. I look out of my window and I see people hustling off to work, children walking to School, dog walkers with mutts of all shapes and sizes, all whilst I prepare for breakfast!!

Picture Spring - Day 5

Shooting at ground level with my camera resting in the grass is not the easiest thing to accomplish and still be happy with the result. I must have taken dozens of shots. At least the little blue flower is more or less in focus. I have mixed feelings about this kind of exercise in which I feel I have no control whatsoever. It's very touch-and-go... a rather precarious feeling!

"You can reach me by sailboat, climb a tree and swing rope to rope

Take a sled and slide down the slope, into these arms of mine

You can jump on a speedy colt, cross the border in a blaze of hope

I don't care how you get here, just get here if you can

There are hills and mountains between us

Always something to get over

If I had my way, surely you would be closer

I need you closer"

My daughter and her boyfriend are heading to Lisbon during their reading week break. We taught her to fly, and she is flying solo (of sorts), traveling sans parents!

I will be off until Tuesday, and wish you all a happy Easter!

Happy Window Wednesday.

Route 66 Diner Albuquerque.

I have driven past this place hundreds of times . . . literally . . . but usually on the clock, so no time to dawdle . . . on this day, the sky was dramatic . . . the highway empty . . . and I was on my own time. There is actually a lot more clutter than I captured here, but this angle just sang . . . I knew I would have to sacrifice foreground and sky in a crop, and I hesitated before releasing the shutter . . . I'm glad it turned out!

For other reasons that I am not presently at liberty to discuss, I will remember this day as Black Friday!

Shooting from Alexandra Palace, North London

Alexandra Palace is an historic entertainment venue in Alexandra Park, North London. It is located between Muswell Hill and Wood Green, in the north of the city. It was originally opened in 1873 but was rebuilt in 1875 following a destructive fire.

Managed to do that a little last weekend for a short while, Sadly this weekend is looking a little unsettled.

So wet and chilly tomorrow means a day indoors doing a little decorating and then maybe Sunday will brighten up a little so as i can get a sun dress on again.

I got one of these multi way dresses today from a charity shop, glad i never spent good money on one. OK they aren't bad but they aren't good either.

Maybe over the weekend i will take a few photos of me wearing it a number of different ways, Think it would work better with proper boobs

Downy Woodpecker, Okeeheelee Park, West Palm Beach, FL

It's been a very long time since I have seen one of these woodpeckers. And on this day I saw two as they were following each other around the tree. One was pecking away and getting the grub and then feeding it to the other. Hmm... a pesky youngster following around Mom? I don't know. I've never seen this behavior.

I just wish they would have let me get closer (or I had more glass). The shots are 100% crops almost. And I could have lowered the ISO.

It's raining too, so Pippy isn't the only one who's getting wet today!!!

It was such a beautiful sunny day yesterday!

Did you get what you wanted out of me?

I hope you got your fill now that I'm temporarily empty

I'm still digesting all the tall glasses of your misery

that were funneled into my stomach whenever I was uneasy...

And we packed so much shit into 6 months, it may as well have been 6 years

Looking back I see a lot less laughs than there were ever tears...

But red lights blend into everything when you're wearing rose colored lenses

Today I searched for and washed you out of everything like forensics.

And I'm sure there's some people already thinking I should give it a rest,

but I won't censor myself for your comfort because you only like me at my best

I wear my heart around my throat like a necklace

and I think it looks alright on me

A trip down Route 66 wouldn't be complete without at least stopping to get a snapshot of the iconic Jack Rabbit Trading Post sign wedged between the highway and the former Santa Fe Railway's mainline as BNSF 7287 rumbles westward with a double-stack train on the afternoon of June 6, 2021, near Joseph City, AZ.

We finally saw the Shepard Fairey "Imperfect Union" show on its final day at the Merry Karnowski Gallery in LA.

There are two reasons why a person faces the sea.

One, to enjoy a slice of shine in the sea like children bubbling over in the beach.

The other, to brush the dust of memory like an old man who misses old days, staring at the shine

quietly.

Those lead to only one meaning though they do not seem to overlap. It’s a rebirth.

I face myself to change tomorrow, a vague day into something certain.

That is the meaning of a rebirth.

I had a very sweet girlfriend when I was 18.

After she left, I knew the meaning of gentleness for the first time and also a true pain of loss. After

she left, how many times did I depend too much on her, doubt her, envy her and keep on telling lies

until I realized it is love?

I wonder whether a nobody like me could have given something to her who was struggling in the

daily life in those days. Giving something is arrogant conceit. It is nothing but self-satisfaction.

I had been thinking about such a thing.

However, I guess what she saw in me was because I had nothing. That‘s why she tried to see

something in me. Perhaps she found a slight possibility in me, a guy filled with ambiguous, unstable

tomorrow. But I wasted days depending too much on her gentleness.

Now I finally can convey how I felt in those days when we met.

EU, NATO, GAVI, WHO

Saturday's demonstration in Frankfurt against Corona policy, April 30, 2022. Big event for peace and freedom.

As winter draws nearer and daylight savings drew to a close, I once again find myself in the end-of-the-year hibernation that seems to have become an annual occurrence. Certainly a struggle to find the desire to want to shoot anything when darkness comes quick, the days get chillier, and probably most importantly, a lack of stuff I actually want to bag. So many things I would otherwise enjoy shooting have become nocturnal, and everything else is too far away to justify - be it time, distance, or cost to get there being the killer. A little burnout from a long year is the cherry on top of it all.

But, all is not lost. All it takes is the right thing to prod me and I'm out in the hot seat once again. A little heads-up that CN A407 had the venerable IC1000 leading it earlier in the day made me decide for once it would be worth jumping out of the house and taking a peek. I needed to run some errands anyway, why not have a look? Happily enough, I ran across the train as it was pulling up to Leverett Junction for a recrew. It was only a short wait until they were ready to go and moving - and I just couldn't resist going for the classic twin elevators of Leverett proper for a shot.

IC1000, class leader of the Illinois Central SD70s, has become the most coveted of all 26 all-black units today. Earlier this year, while in for its usual maintenance, the 1000 was given a gift: new white reflective tape to replace the ~17 year old yellow tape on the sill and footwells.

With a paint scheme as incredibly simple as the IC New Image "Death Star" is, even the smallest changes make a big difference - and wow, what a difference the white sill makes here. The addition of the AC and the - thankfully - tastefully small PTC antennae on the roof of the unit means you wouldn't fool anyone into thinking it would fit perfectly into the 1990s again... but it's pretty damn close. Although unlikely, it would be a real treat to see some more of the SD70s regain their white sills again. One can dream, anyway.

I've not had the best luck catching the IC1000 after its re-silling, so to get a chance to nab it again was a real delight. Some would complain about the CN-dressed IC1009 trailing, but I didn't terribly mind. No matter what trails, I'll never complain about getting to see the 1000 in the lead!

It is a lesson to see the dressing up and the making up part of the performers who comprise the Yakshagana team.

There is a flicker of a flame and incense smoke that sanctifies the place and lights up a small dedication to God and there is tonnes of sombre, serene and reverant atmosphere without chatter and noise as the 2-3 hours session unfolds. Each artist does his own make up with a small mirror in one had or placed on the floor in front. This is quite unlike Kathakali and Theyyam where the work is done mostly by others.

The changing room is always cramped, and there are so many trinkets to be adorned, dresses to be laid out. Steel trunks , many in number, lie open. The lighting was provided by two large tungsten lamps on a circular raised stand and the artists formed a neat semi circle around it for the act of getting ready.

Here one of the performers, a closer close up with an artistic tilt ( as shot)

Hey Flickr,

Its been about 15 weeks since my last post here. I know I've had these extended breaks from photography and social media in the past, but this was different. The last few weeks have been tumultuous to say the least. Starting from a major health scare for my dad to sitting one of the most challenging academic exam I've had to sit so far, which I did yesterday. I'm glad that this is over... for now at least, till life throws in another challenge that is.

So the story above equates to me spending no time behind the lens. Well, I've not been able to spend any time with my little boy and the wife let alone the camera. So now that this over, I plan to catchup on both these fronts.

I've been admiring your work during this quiet time and have seen some of you take your work to a new level which obviously inspires me to get out and push the limits. Hopefully I can.

I don't have any new shots to come back with, so here is one I've had processed and sitting in my vault for quiet some time now.

Hope you guys like it.

The title stems from the G20 summit Brisbane is hosting next month. The race is on to present the best of the city to the top world leaders in 3 weeks time.

Thanks to all of you for your time, comments and favs. Truly appreciated..
