Installation at the Museum of Contemporary Art entitled "May the Arrogant Not Prevail" by Michael Rakowitz. It is constructed of found Arabic packaging and newspaper, glue, cardboard, and wood. It depicts the Ishtar Gate of Babylon.
The Ishtar Gate was the eighth gate to the inner city of Babylon. It was constructed in about 575 BCE by order of King Nebuchadnezzar II on the north side of the city. It was excavated in the early 20th century and a reconstruction using original bricks, completed in 1930, is now shown in the Pergamon Museum, Berlin.
Florence Baptistery - In 1425 Lorenzo Ghiberti got a commission for the East Doors of the baptistry, on which he and his workshop toiled for 27 years, excelling themselves.These doors have ten panels depicting scenes from the Old Testament, he employed the recently discovered principles of perspective to give depth to his compositions.The 10 panels are included in a richly decorated gilt framework of foliage and fruit, many statuettes of prophets and 24 busts. Michelangelo referred to these doors as fit to be the "Gates of Paradise"
Construction on San Francisco's Golden Gate Bridge was begun in 1933. The bridge was completed in 1937. The bridge spans the Golden Gate strait and is 1.7 miles (2.7 km) long.
These are photos from July 2008 when I walked across the bridge. I highly recommend walking it, because the views were fantastic.
One thing to remember when considering walking across the bridge from San Francisco - there's nothing at the other end. You just turn around and walk back. So, consider the walk 3.4 miles since you will be walking back.

Still an inviting gate even with the overgrowth. This is from a beautiful old white colonial with black shutters in my town. I have watched this great home become neglected and rundown for the 11 years I have lived here. Very sad. There is a For Rent sign in the second floor window - well, what used to be a window. Now it looks like the For Rent sign is just holding back the rain from going inside the house.
I was still exhausted and entirely dehydrated by the time I got to the Golden Gate Bridge Welcome Center. Still, there were photographs to be taken.
This needed doing in b/w. The Menin Gate commemorates the 54,896 Commonwealth soldiers who were killed during the battles in the Ypres salient during World War 1 and who have no known graves. You can find info about the Menin Gate here.

Originally the Golden Gate referred to this straight between the Pacific Ocean and San Francisco Bay, not the bridge that now spans it.

The gate sign is a copy of the origin one stolen and recovered
in December 2009. The original is now in storage at the Auschwitz-Bikenau State Museum.
The sign was erected on the orders of Commadant Rudolf Höss
after being made by prisoner-labourers of the camp, and features an upside down letter "B" which has been interpreted as an act of defiance by the prisoners who made it.
