Today's FGR is "Your Three Words". Well, I couldn't think of anything really-- my day was partly good, partly bad, mostly mediocre. Then I got into a discussion about series five of "Lost" which starts soon, and inspiration struck.

"Lost" fans were rewarded for their loyalty by a fantastic end to series three, which led into the superb series four. Now all hopes are pinned on it continuing as well as it's gone. I for one can't wait.

Now I'm off for an evening of Rock Band 2 and fajitas with some friends. Lovely jubbly.

FGR invades OZ

Australia has grass. It freaking counts, Fuggers.

So the last two weeks have been some of the most ridiculous times of my life. I have simultaneously become 1) single, thus 2) homeless, thus 3) damned near broke, and just for kicks, 4) sicker than I have ever been in my entire life.

But the key, I think, is to not let such things get you down. Sure you can stomp your feet and curse the heavens all you want, but the fact remains: this situation is here. You may deserve it completely or it may have been dropped in your lap, but it’s staring you in the face and nothing will change that unless you stand up, brush the dust off and deal.

We seem to yell the loudest when nobody is listening.

So you can take the lemons life has given you and make lemonade, or you can make grass ~~angles~~ angels in the nearest baseball field.

I have chosen the latter.

FGR today requested that we go high-key. Generally speaking, that means reduced contrast and shadows are suppressed. The problem, of course, is that I am very tanned and nearly ruddy, so I am just not a candidate to do a good high-key self-portrait. It doesn’t help that I forgot to over expose. Oops.

So, I turned these into decent B/W SPs and am calling it a day. I liked this as an SP, so I am posting it too. :-)

Strobist info: I pulled out the big guns today to have my shadows “suppressed”. I have a pair of IKEA Halogen Desk Lamps a foot from my face. The 430EX is behind me, blasting out the wall and killing shadows there. The overall effect is nice, but not high-key. Drat.

For FGR and Immortality.

Yeah so I had this great idea to turn myself into some sort of amazone warrior princess. But euhm yeah, so, I didnt really have any props to make myself into one lol! Figured just make up would look cool aswell.

Anyway, on a 'serious' sidenote. This is suppose to be an Immortality shot (I totally forgive you if you dont see it). Superhero's, action figures, they are usualy immortal...so that is where the idea came from. It might not really be an immortality shot after all...I dont know. But I do like how it turned out.

Tribute to...

Flickr Group Roulette's challenge today is: Tribute to... where you take a picture in tribute to someone special in our lives.

I had the idea once the group for today was posted....but then something happened...the birth of my nephew on Friday.

But in keeping with that here's my tribute:

pictured left: In my office at work sometime ago I put Kilroy on my wall. Kilroy, the graffiti used in World War II by US servicemen to show where they have been is a tribute to my Grandfathers who both served during the War. I know more about my Grandfather on my mom's side's service. He had two combat jumps during World War II, fought in North Africa, Sicily...was part of the liberation of Rome...participated in Operation Market Garden, was at the Battle of the Bulge, and was an eye witness to the autrocity at a concentration camp they liberated. He went on to serve in Korea and Vietnam before retiring from the Army.

pictured right: It was through my grandfathers' efforts, along with the millions who served in the War, that allows us today to welcome new life into a nation of freedom, liberty and the pursuit of happiness here in the United States.

That is my tribute...

FGR invades Giving Thanks and HONEST Self-Portraits.

Ooh! Another SOOC shot, how exciting! This is my cousin Megan. She and I don’t really get to see each other often, but I am very thankful when we do.

Being the same age, we’ve developed a bit of a competitive streak between one another. If she does something that impresses the extended family, then I must come up with something to one-up her and make her feel like a stupid face. And vise versa. It’s a beautiful thing.

She was the first of the grandkids to earn a degree. Beat me out by 6 months!
