I spent a delightful Saturday with the Famous Flickr Five+ Group in the Yarra Valley, where we visited the picturesque Alowyn Gardens, which I had never heard of before, before having luncheon at the Yarrawood Winery.

The Alowyn Gardens are just outside Yarra Glen, east of Melbourne, in wine making country. The Alowyn Gardens started as weed and blackberry infested paddocks that were formerly part of a horse stud. The land was cleared in 1997 before revitalisation of the soil was conducted. Two years later in 1999 the first tree was planted. Today the Alowyn Gardens are well established, and provide an informative and educational experience for visitors. It has been designed with shade and comfort in mind. Plant names are on view to educate visitors about the gardens. The gardens have one of the largest Japanese Wisteria arbours as their centrepiece. Off it visitors may wander through seven very different styles of gardens, from the formal to the informal, European to Australian. The Native Garden is based on Australian plantings and features a dam and wetland area for animals, including a profusion of frogs and a great deal of birdlife. The Display Garden is a collection of courtyards and small gardens featuring collections of interesting plantings. The idea of the Display garden is to demonstrate what can be achieved in small spaces. The Edible Garden as the name suggests, shows that kitchen gardens can be beautiful as well as functional with rows of fruit trees, vegetable and medicinal gardens and a number of edible flowers that are both tasty and beautiful. The Birch and Casuarina Forest offers a woodland with enchanting hidden dells and contains a historical miner's hut. The Perennial Border contains herbaceous plants which are tough and hardy, survive with minimal work and are able to cope with Australia's hot summers and cold Yarra Valley winters. The Parterre Garden is based on the 15th Century French Renaissance design principles of low formal hedges formed into patterns. The French Provincial Garden is the largest of all the gardens and is surrounded by avenues of Chinese Elm, Crab Apple and Canadian Maple trees. It has large lawns, and a long water feature that runs the width of the garden.

The first generation of Camaro, unveiled at the 1966 Detroit Motor Show and one week later in Los Angeles, California, for the 1967 model year.

When asked what was a Camaro, the Chevrolet G.M. Pete Estes replied that it was a small vicious creature that eats Mustangs.

The car was built on a new rear wheel drive GM F-body platform as a 2 door coupe or convertible.

The Camaro's standard drive train was either a 230 cu in (3.8 L) straight-6 engine rated at 140 hp or a 327 cu in (5.4 L) (307 cu in (5.0 L) later in 1969) V8 engine, with a standard three-speed manual transmission. There were 8 (in 1967), 10 (in 1968), and 12 (in 1969) different engines available in 1967-1969 Camaros. There were several optional transmissions. A four-speed manual was available with any engine. The two-speed Powerglide automatic transmission was available all three years. The three-speed Turbo Hydra-Matic 350 automatic became available starting in 1969. The optional automatic for SS396 cars was the Turbo 400 three-speed automatic

The RS was an appearance package that included hidden headlights, revised taillights with back-up lights under the rear bumper, RS badging, and exterior bright trim. It was available on any model.

The SS performance package consisted of a 350 cu in (5.7 L) or 396 cu in (6.5 L) V8s and chassis upgrades for better handling and to deal with the additional power. The SS featured non-functional air inlets on the hood, special striping, and SS badging.

The Z/28 performance package was designed (with further modifications) to compete in the SCCA Trans-Am Series. It included a solid-lifter 302 cu in (4.9 L) V8, 4-speed transmission, power disc brakes, and two wide skunk stripes down the hood and trunk lid.

Glass and wood are great materials for building a modern hotel. They have many advantages over other options, such as concrete or metal. Glass can create a sense of openness and natural light, which can make the guests feel more comfortable and relaxed. Wood can add warmth and texture to the design, as well as being eco-friendly and durable. Together, glass and wood can create a harmonious balance between aesthetics and functionality, making the hotel more appealing and inviting.

Tutorial on Instructables: www.instructables.com/id/Functional-LEGO-Nutcrackers/

With a simple pull of the lever, these decorative figures can open and close their jaws like authentic nutcrackers!

Both of these models were built in the recent weeks leading up to Christmas. The design was pretty straightforward, but two major issues were making the faces look good, and finally getting the hats right. In fact, the green nutcracker's crown took the longest to figure out, and was finally made with hinge plates.

As mentioned in the tutorial, although these can in fact function as real nutcrackers, they're somewhat rickety and best suited for holiday decorations.

From a website: Located near Lion’s Bridge, the Women’s market is the oldest functional marketplace on the territory of the Bulgarian capital city. First established in the year 1878, not long before Bulgaria became a free state, the Women’s market started growing rapidly and soon became a trade centre of big significance, not only for its time, but for the times to come. The marketplace was the most prestigious and influential for the capital city of Sofia throughout the 20th century.

Nowadays, especially after some modernization work done in 2014, the Women’s marketplace has become a cross point for past and present and for different cultures. The newly built dazzling pavilions are contrasting magnificently with the old city architecture. The Women’s market is also in close proximity to temples, which represent every official religion in the country, giving the area around the marketplace the nickname “the tolerance zone”.

That's just my opinion.

Functional and period, it's not all about glamour at the Croft Circuit Retro Weekend 2019

Step into the serene charm of Japan's historic districts with this image of a traditional wooden house, found Kanazawa's Higashi Chaya. The house, bathed in the warm glow of lantern light, exemplifies the elegance of traditional Japanese architecture. Wooden lattice windows and sliding shoji doors are meticulously crafted, allowing soft light to filter through, enhancing privacy while creating a cozy ambiance. The tiled roof, with its gentle curves, not only adds aesthetic beauty but also serves a practical function, efficiently channeling rainwater away.

The intricate woodwork of the house is highlighted by the soft lighting from exterior lanterns, casting a welcoming glow. These lanterns, both functional and decorative, add to the enchanting atmosphere. A bicycle, casually parked outside, injects a slice of everyday life, reminding us that these historic homes are still vibrant parts of modern Japan.

The clean, quiet street, lined with neatly arranged stones and potted plants, enhances the tranquil setting. This scene captures the essence of traditional Japanese living, where simplicity, elegance, and harmony with nature are paramount. It's a beautiful reminder of the importance of preserving such architectural treasures, which offer a window into Japan's rich cultural and historical legacy.

Whether you're a history enthusiast, an architecture lover, or simply seeking a moment of calm, this traditional wooden house provides a glimpse into the timeless beauty and tranquility of Japan's architectural heritage.

Inevitably I break them but bringing home a ceramic mug is one of my weak spots. The yellow one with a handle? Returning from a weekend spent with my sister and her friends in Harper's Ferry, WV I took the scenic route and kept seeing handwritten signs for a potter "need a mug" and instead of thinking "maybe I should stop..." I actually made the decision and followed through and did it. And I bought one for each of the ladies and I think I actually got the mugs too them. A minor miracle on my part. The luxurious one under it came from a festival we used to go to every year until the museum stopped hosting it but its my favorite mug and always reminds me of the horse drawn carousel and kettle popped corn. The mug with the x marks is from the sister and while its missing the handle its perfect for an afternoon cup of coffee--just the right size. There is a new one from Alisha back there stamped "grateful" because I so am and just need reminding and another from a different weekend retreat with my sister and another with the best glaze and terrific for that first cup because its huge... I hope to get one in CT too...

Built in 1914 at no. 911 Wellington Street East.

"This is a Prairie-style single-story residence, noticeably located at the south-west corner of Wellington and Woodward in the city’s east-central area. It encompasses part of Lot 15, Plan 568 and Lot 29, Plan 930. GIS coordinates: 705,711.336 5,154,111.585 Meters

This handsome, distinctive, well maintained home is the best example of a Prairie-style residence to be found in Sault Ste. Marie. It is an elegant Craftsman style bungalow with a variety of gently pitched roof slopes and a small hipped dormer. The eaves are deep and bracketed. The columns are plain with square abacuses and no base. The inclusion of classical modillions in a residence is rare in Sault Ste. Marie and to Prairie-style homes. A variety of rustic building materials have been utilized: stucco, wood, brick and stone. The window groupings consist of both casement and sash with inner muntin bars. Those windows on the front have been replaced with modern aluminum windows but the windows around the sunroom on the east side and those on the partial second floor are original. Many of the original storm windows are stored in the garage. Craftsmanship in the building is excellent yet simple and functional. Even the interior fireplace sports hand-carved brackets of similar design to those supporting the overhanging exterior eaves. With the exception of the kitchen and bathroom, the main floor rooms are still finished with the original oak trim and floors. An old photo of the house indicates that cedar shingles once adorned the roof.

This residence was constructed, in its present form, in 1914 for Richard H. Carney who was District manager for Canada Life Assurance Co. It was the Carney family who was responsible for construction of the Carney Block on Queen St. It thus reflects the affluence of an upper middle class business family which was profiting from the Clergue industrial expansion of the day. A 1914 date and initials of the stone mason builder may be found in the basement wall mortar between the sandstone pieces. It is likely this sandstone was quarried from the locks as was typical for the day. This house was purchased in 1939 by the MacIntosh family who owned it until 2004.

The key exterior features that embody the heritage value of 911 Wellington St. E. include:

- Variety of gently pitched roof slopes provide horizontal emphasis reflecting the Prairiestyle bungalow

- Clerestory lighting that provides light to a half story loft

- A hipped dormer and deep bracketed eaves

- Columns with abacuses and no base but adorned with modillions

- Rustic building materials including stucco, wood, brick and stone

- Original casement windows with sash and inner muntin bars on the sunroom (east side)

and on the half story loft

- Home and property have been well maintained in traditional style with little change to

the exterior

- An interior with oak trim, baseboards and flooring unchanged save for the kitchen and

bathroom

- A beautiful fireplace with brackets supporting the mantle matching those under the

eaves on the exterior

- The best example of a classical Prairie-style residence in Sault Ste. Marie distinctively

located in a prominent east-central location

- A residence which reflects the affluence of a prominent Sault business family built

during the heyday of the Clergue industrial empire" - info from the Sault Ste. Marie Municipal Heritage Committee.

"Sault Ste. Marie (/ˈsuː seɪnt məˈriː/ SOO-seint-ma-REE) is a city on the St. Marys River in Ontario, Canada, close to the Canada–US border. It is the seat of the Algoma District and the third largest city in Northern Ontario, after Sudbury and Thunder Bay.

The Ojibwe, the indigenous Anishinaabe inhabitants of the area, call this area Baawitigong, meaning "place of the rapids." They used this as a regional meeting place during whitefish season in the St. Mary's Rapids. (The anglicized form of this name, Bawating, is used in institutional and geographic names in the area.)

To the south, across the river, is the United States and the Michigan city of the same name. These two communities were one city until a new treaty after the War of 1812 established the border between Canada and the United States in this area at the St. Mary's River. In the 21st century, the two cities are joined by the International Bridge, which connects Interstate 75 on the Michigan side, and Huron Street (and former Ontario Secondary Highway 550B) on the Ontario side. Shipping traffic in the Great Lakes system bypasses the Saint Mary's Rapids via the American Soo Locks, the world's busiest canal in terms of tonnage that passes through it, while smaller recreational and tour boats use the Canadian Sault Ste. Marie Canal.

French colonists referred to the rapids on the river as Les Saults de Ste. Marie and the village name was derived from that. The rapids and cascades of the St. Mary's River descend more than 6 m (20 ft) from the level of Lake Superior to the level of the lower lakes. Hundreds of years ago, this slowed shipping traffic, requiring an overland portage of boats and cargo from one lake to the other. The entire name translates to "Saint Mary's Rapids" or "Saint Mary's Falls". The word sault is pronounced [so] in French, and /suː/ in the English pronunciation of the city name. Residents of the city are called Saultites.

Sault Ste. Marie is bordered to the east by the Rankin and Garden River First Nation reserves, and to the west by Prince Township. To the north, the city is bordered by an unincorporated portion of Algoma District, which includes the local services boards of Aweres, Batchawana Bay, Goulais and District, Peace Tree and Searchmont. The city's census agglomeration, including the townships of Laird, Prince and Macdonald, Meredith and Aberdeen Additional and the First Nations reserves of Garden River and Rankin, had a total population of 79,800 in 2011.

Native American settlements, mostly of Ojibwe-speaking peoples, existed here for more than 500 years. In the late 17th century, French Jesuit missionaries established a mission at the First Nations village. This was followed by development of a fur trading post and larger settlement, as traders, trappers and Native Americans were attracted to the community. It was considered one community and part of Canada until after the War of 1812 and settlement of the border between Canada and the US at the Ste. Mary's River. At that time, the US prohibited British traders from any longer operating in its territory, and the areas separated by the river began to develop as two communities, both named Sault Ste. Marie." - info from Wikipedia.

The Fernsehturm (English: Television Tower) in central Berlin was constructed between 1965 and 1969 by the government of the German Democratic Republic, or East Germany, as both a functional broadcasting facility and a symbol of Communist power.

It remains a landmark today from its position next to Alexanderplatz in the city's Marien Quarter, part of the district of Mitte, visible across most suburban districts of Berlin. With its height to 368 metres (1,207 ft) (including antenna) it is the tallest structure in Germany, and the third-tallest structure in the European Union. When built it was the fourth-tallest freestanding structure in the world after the Empire State Building and 875 North Michigan Avenue, then known as The John Hancock Center.

Of the four tallest structures in the European Union, the Fernsehturm is 2 metres (6.6 ft) shorter than the Torreta de Guardamar, 0.5 metres (1.6 ft) shorter than the Riga Radio and TV Tower, and 8 metres (26 ft) taller than the Trbovlje Power Station. The structure is also more than 220 metres (720 ft) higher than the old Berlin Radio Tower in the western part of the city, which was built in the 1920s.

In addition to its main function as the location of several radio and television transmitters, the building – internally known as "Fernmeldeturm 32" – serves as a viewing tower with observation deck including a bar at a height of 203 metres (666 ft), as well as a rotating restaurant. Also, the Berlin TV Tower can be booked as a venue for events. The distinctive city landmark has undergone a radical, symbolic transformation: After German reunification, it changed from a politically charged, national symbol of the GDR into a citywide symbol of a reunited Berlin. Due to its universal and timeless design, it has increasingly been used as a trademark and is identified worldwide with Berlin and Germany. In 1979, the Berlin TV Tower received official monument status by the East German government, a status which was perpetuated after the German reunification.

The tower has become one of the most prominent symbols of the country and is often in the establishing shot of films set in Berlin, alongside monuments such as the Brandenburg Gate, the Berlin Victory Column and the Reichstag building. It is also one of the ten most popular attractions in Germany with more than 1,000,000 visitors every year.

Bacha log, in this Module we are going to see different, different Marketing Strategic

Techniques. To start with Social Marketing, now it aims to increase the acceptability of a

social idea, cause or practice among a target group. Example is campaign for prohibition of

smoking, right. Second example would be P&G, they collect or they donate, right, for every

product that we buy out of which 2 or 3 rupees is donated towards Girl Child Shiksha

Abhiyan. Isn’t it good, yes?

Next we see is Augmented Marketing, now in here it is the provision of additional customer

services and benefit built around the core and the actual products that relate to the

introduction of hi-tech services like, online computer services, etc. Herein example could be

Asian Paints, they give five years warranty on certain paints.

Direct Marketing, is a marketing strategy that interacts directly with the consumers asking

them to make a direct response. Example through catalogues selling, mail, electronic

marketing, Television shopping, etc.

Relationship Marketing, it is a process of creating, maintaining and enhancing strong value

laden relationships with customers and other stakeholders. It will go a long way in building

relationships. Example, Emirates, right, when you fly by Emirates they send a Mercedes,

right, per passenger at your residence, so if it is a family of four, you can even ask for four

Mercedes and they provide. And they pick you up from your door, that is your home till

airport. And again from your destination airport to the hotel a Mercedes service is

provided. Same, British Airways, offers special lounges with showers at 199 airports for

frequent fliers. Isn’t it amazing, yes.

Next, Services Marketing, It is applying the concepts, tools and techniques of marketing to

services. Services is any activity that one party can offer to another that is essentially

The station does see only one timetabled departure, in one direction, per week. That would be 2V30 13.18 Whitlocks End to Great Malvern, which would call here at 13.36, don't be late as there could be a long wait. Although it can see up to a dozen departures when Birmingham City play at home with St Andrews a shortish walk from here.

Just love the design.

Projecting sculptural elements such as these are becoming much more common in modern buildings. They are not random but form part of the solar shading strategy to conserve a building's energy and improve comfort for occupants. Computer programmes which predict the height and path of the sun are used to calculate their optimum shape, size and position. In this way the architectural identity of the building arises out of a legitimate function of its components, which is admirable.

You know what I love in a car's design?

Functionality, subtle design cues, 2 doors instead of 4, and above all: uniqueness.

The Renault Avantime is all of those. It has lots of interior room, no gaudy bodywork, 2 doors, and it looks like nothing else.

Ever get the feeling your'e being watched?

You will in the Renault Avantime, because no other car has quite the visual impact of the the French firm's coupe-cabriolet-MPV. With striking, futuristic looks that even earned it an appearance in the distopian film Children of Men, the Avantime deserves to be remembered.

The R&D and production of the Renault Avantime was made by Matra, a French manufacturer which partnered with Renault, and represented the first 2-door MPV coupe ever produced. The Avantime is also one of a few concept cars produced by a volume manufacturer that has gone straight into production within two years of first being seen by the general public, and redefined luxury travel and passenger safety at the time. The first concept "Coupéspace" was unveiled in 1999 at the Geneva Auto Show and the production started 2001. In terms of engines, the Avantime could be found in three engine configurations, ranging between 2.0- and 3.0-liter, developing up to 210 horsepower.

The two-tone bodywork (created through the use of aluminium for the upper panels) brings a special style to the Renault Avantime. The vehicle was super-luxurious back in 2001-2003. The Avantime combines comfort, style and performance wrapped in a distinctive, innovative, attention-grabbing body, with design project manager Thierry Metroz admitting at the time he “wanted someone walking around the car to be continually astonished”.

The combination of performance and driving enjoyment, the luxury of interior space and comfort, heightened by the panoramic glass roof and four windows which could all be lowered at the touch of a button put the Renault Avantime at the top of the wish list of anyone seeking to stand out from the crowd, see and be seen, in style and in comfort.

Unfortunately production only lasted 18 months due to Matra being unable to find a replacement model for Espace III production that was coming to a close leaving them with too much excess capacity. This has made the Avantime, something of a rarity on the roads. The global production reached 8,557 units - compared to 12,920 Citroën SM - by 2003, the same year when the French parent company Renault decided to discontinue the model. This helped to build a cult following among current and past owners and enthusiasts of this iconic design classic.

The appearance of the Renault Avantime - designed by Patrick le Quément - is still innovative to the absence of central body pillars, two-stage parallel opening doors, and the large single opening glass roof panel.

The Avantime is an extraordinary car: no doubt about that!
