after a couple of years of belonging to a group here on flickr called trash talk tuesdays, now pretty much defunct, i still look for unusual things on the ground that are lost or cast-aside. found this in the verge of a parking lot of a convenience store and all of the functions are still very much functional!!

The Ross Fountain is a cultural gem, reflecting the opulence and artistry of the Victorian period.
Its intricate design, featuring cherubs, mermaids, and water nymphs, exemplifies the era’s fascination with classical themes.

It stands as a symbol of the city’s dedication to blending art and functionality.

Throne room inside the old factory, where two of the stalls are identified as non-functional. The chair is to wait your turn, I guess.
But when the time comes … how does a man wedge himself in these little enclosures to do his business? Was the average guy really that skinny 125 years ago?
Rocketdyne produced seven serialized high-fidelity F-1 engine mock-ups. Although non-functional, they were used for early engineering purposes. Most are/were? mounted on test (i.e., non-flight) Saturn V first stages.
In this photograph, the second of these, FM-101 (the first being FM-100), was featured in a paper written by D. E. Aldrich & D. J. Sanchini of the Rocketdyne Division of North American Aviation. See:
heroicrelics.org/info/f-1/fm-101/fm-101.jpg
“I don't know exactly when FM-101 (or any of these engine mock-ups) were manufactured, but they certainly reflect an early design:
- There is no provision for thermal insulation.
- There is no interface panel.
- The fuel high-pressure ducts are straight, rather than the "U"-shaped ducts which characterized later production engines.
- The LOX dome has twin-elbow inlets.
F-1 engine mock-up FM-103 is on display in the Kennedy Space Center Rocket Garden (where, oddly enough, it is completely painted silver).”
The direct copy/paste above is in quotations, along with my paraphrasing from Mike Jetzer’s superlative “HEROIC RELICS” website, which he gleaned from Alan Lawrie’s book “Saturn” and a paper, “Saturn V Booster – The F-1 Engine”, by D. E. Aldrich, located in the Saturn V Collection, Dept. of Archives/Special Collections, M. Louis Salmon Library, University of Alabama in Huntsville, at:
heroicrelics.org/info/f-1/fm-101.html
I’m hoping the above is no longer the case, and that FM-103 was moved out of the elements into the Apollo/Saturn V Center.

Wait…one more. Look at the multiple monstrous card catalog cabinets behind the F-1! Commensurate with the size of the the engine.
The Roosevelt Bridge is a major highway segmental bridge across the St. Lucie River in Stuart, Florida. Carrying U.S. Route 1 (Federal Highway; unsigned State Road 5), it was built to supersede the old Roosevelt Bridge, which had twin parallel drawbridges, one for northbound traffic (opened in 1934, 27.203228°N 80.259612°W) and the other for southbound (opened in 1964, 27.202475°N 80.259762°W).
The new bridge, completed in 1996, is raised and much longer than the older twin drawbridges. The southbound span of the old bridge is still functional for road and boat traffic and now carries two-way road traffic for what is now known as Dixie Highway, County Road 707. The new high-level Roosevelt Bridge is approximately one mile long and is made of two three-lane sections running parallel to each other. The northbound bridge was completed first, and housed two lanes of both north and south-bound traffic until the second bridge was finished.

I was amazed to see this, although maybe I shouldn't have been since it's the second one I've seen in Newquay. Registered as an FS Lublina 07 and imported in 2017. 72,000km at the last MOT. I like things like this. Compared to a modern van it has a functional and honest look about it rather than something which is trying to make a fashion statement whilst (according to people I know who own them) being a nightmare of high costs and unreliability. I've no idea how reliable this would be, but I bet it's easy to repair.
ZUK production ran from 1958 to 1998. In latter years the company was owned by Daewoo.
The supporting wall at Crewe station separating platforms 11 and 12 has a beauty all of its own. Weather worn and stained with the soot of previous generations of railway activity it has tones of cream brown and bronze that are inspired in its construction. The arches are masterpieces of symmetry.
The soft curves of the northbound Pendelino compliment the design features of the wall.
Thanks to David Hayes for the inspiration.

Can't judge functionality, but aesthetically a good example of using patterns in architecture (even the flat facade, but particularly the cylinder tower)
