The architecture of the East Coast Main Line 14 mile Selby Diversion won’t win any beauty contest and can at best be described as functional.

Built to avoid risks to trains from mining subsidence, a new diversionary route, the first purpose-built section of high-speed railway in the UK runs to the west of Selby, construction started in July 1980, paid for by the National Coal Board and opened to British Rail Intercity East Coast Services on the 3rd October 1983.

LNER Azuma is the third generation of High Speed Intercity train to use the diversion, here Class 800 Bi-mode 800106 speeds under Field Lane Hambleton with a service for Edinburgh.

Miniatur Wunderland Hamburg is a spectacular Model World featuring many Land- and Cityscapes from around the world containing model trains, moving cars, ships and even a fully functional airport with starting and landing planes.

All of this is meticulously handcrafted to the smallest Detail.

Please view the photos in full resolution to see all the little Details and Scenes.

Also make sure to visit this wonderful World, whenever you are in Hamburg.

We have many old bridges and viaducts here and further north. All seemed to have been built with such pride and elegance, and this is but one example.

The bridge carries something quite mundane, pipes which carry water further southwards. The stonework is very good, and the whole design aesthetically pleasing.

The River Lune floods severely very frequently, so this bridge has to be sturdy (on the other side of the bridge is a record of some of the flood heights).

An entry into the Castle Siege category of the Colossal Castle Contest. This year I'm basing most of my CCC entries on The Peleg Chronicles book series. The layered landscape was inspired by Dubbadgrim and Brother Steven. I wanted to try doing a rounded tower and wall with sloped base while using a SNOT tile wall design, and I'm pretty happy with the result. The catapult and ballista are both functional, and you can see them in action here: www.youtube.com/watch?v=EPUikybEhKI&feature=youtu.be

Also I have a timelapse video showing the construction of this build here: www.youtube.com/watch?v=O6JXqpEXWaY&list=UUG_66n8gPfj...

Count Rosencross and his men defend his castle from an attack by a neighboring lord.

I highlighted in my photo titled "Pass the Parcel - 2" that in Autumn 2015, Pembrokeshire County Council took on the lease of a Plaxton Centro-bodied VDL SB200 for contracted Service 322 (Haverfordwest & Withybush Hospital-Narberth-Whitland-St Clears-Carmarthen & Glangwili Hospital) on behalf of the then contractor, Silcox.

Silcox had been regularly using a UVG-bodied Dennis Javelin, P780 WDE, on the contract, which had replaced an 08-plate Alexander Dennis Enviro300. January 2016 was the deadline for single-deck service buses used on registered local bus services to comply with the Public Service Vehicle Accessibility Regulations 2000 (PSVAR), which no doubt prompted the Council's actions in leasing the VDL.

Whilst Silcox had built up a sizeable fleet of former MoD vehicles, P780 WDE had been purchased new, presumably as as a cheaper option than a buying a standard coach.

Alien art

Science fiction ideas

How could an alien look like, a bird like? It’s difficult to anticipate that. Aliens could play with their DNA to create additional functions and / or they might replace some body-parts, made by steels, plastics, ceramics, etc., to increase functionality, durability, and replaceability.

To make sure that they exist all the time, they might copy their data daily and save. So long there is no change in current data processors, which are feelings and emotions, and guidelines created by the historical-data collection, they can process any new data the same way, so that no change would occur in their personalities. They might play with their processors and shift their selves, by adding up some new hormones, to a better and stable psychological level to control their feelings and emotions.

Feelings and emotions make us alive. Without them, we would be biological robots and could exist on earth without knowing our existence, with breathing oxygen (like electrical motors needed electricity) and doing the other functions that we normally do, but like robots. We couldn’t achieve the stage of controlling our feelings and emotions yet. We are at the hand of the nature, forming us according to its capabilities. Some aliens might be already in that stage. The life would be easier for them, and they could develop exponentially after reaching this stage. They could easily create a human being like us on any suitable planet.

We have to find the ways to control our feelings and emotions without waiting a biological change.

We kill each other. We are not always mentally stable and get mentally ill (some people are in hospitals). It is tough to change how our bodies function, but we have the teaching power of our society. We have to better educate ourselves about how we function.

I finally set the pole to mount the remote wind speed/direction, outside humidity and rain gauge device. The sunny afternoon and high term of 68 F prompted this sudden burst of energy! Rains are predicted all day tomorrow so I should get some input on the accuracy of the rain catching device! The rain gauge is self dumping so you don't have to go outside to dump the accumulated rain and the amount is transmitted to this indoor display!

.A functional carpet mill stood behind the spectacular facade of the Templeton carpet factory.

James Templeton from Paisley patented a chenille Axminster process by which he could manufacture more densely patterned and richly coloured carpets. He went on to become one of the most successful carpet manufacturers in Britain, producing carpets for state occasions, great houses, luxury liners including the 'Titanic', as well as domestic use.

The City turned down two designs for a major extension to his factory for this sensitive site on Glasgow Green before Templeton commissioned a leading Scottish architect, William Leiper (1839-1916), to tackle the project. His design is directly inspired by the late medieval Palazzo Ducale (Doge's Palace) in Venice but Leiper would also have been aware of the colourful phantasmagoria of designs being used for the pavilions in Glasgow's 1888 International Exhibition showground in the west end. The flamboyant glazed brick, vitreous enamel tiles, red brick and terracotta of the facade evokes the rich Oriental-influenced patterns of the carpets the factory produced.

The buildings have been converted within an approved masterplan to provide offices, workshops, creative studios and new and converted flats. The buildings overlooking the Green are to be developed as spacious apartments. The first 34 converted flats are complete.

Really enjoy the 40mm perspective and bought the Canon Pancake 40F2.8 lens. Enjoying the AF functionality and focusing is fast enough for my style of photography. View other shots taken with this lens here. A small but growing collection.

Another 40mm favorite is the Voigtlander Nokton Classic 40mm F1.4 MC lens. It renders images in a way that is reminiscent of film. View other shots taken with this lens here.

Have used a variety of 40mm lenses, view shots taken here.

These 'benches' are not intended to be comfortable, they are ideal for the teenage slouch adopted by those who must constantly peer at their mobile phone. If you are older a 3cm wide strip of stainless steel is best avoided. To be fair Cradley Heath has a ticket office/waiting room which does have reasonable seating.

Patterns beneath our feet

The next four pattern photos were all taken in Perth city centre. I was heading in for coffee with a friend, so I left about 15 minutes early to look for some photo opps.

So, a challenge and a time constraint… and a lens constraint – only using my 14mm.

My first shot was the patterns in these cobbles. I think they are mesmerising.

The #KonicaMinolta #DimageA2 is still a beautiful little beast of a camera with an excellent 28-200 GT lens and 8Mp sensor that delivers beautiful images on lower iso. Great build quality and handling ergonomics.. I loved it and it will always have a special place in my photographers heart :)
