We have lots of visitors to the garden, none more friendly than our friend the robin. He is so inquisitive and is usually lingering around somewhere when you are out there watching what you are doing.

One of the many Hector's Dolphins that we saw during our 2 hour cruise of Akaroa Harbour.
The Hector's Dolphin is one of the smallest species of cetaceans, at about 1.4m in length. It is an endangered species. It is endemic to New Zealand.
This friendly giant willow sculpture sits on the bank at the northern end of Low Burnhall Wood, a Woodland Trust woodland, just south of Durham city.

This Damselfly (which I think is a Common Blue female - please correct me if I'm wrong) didn't have any problem with crawling onto my finger. Gives a scale of how small these little insects are.
Taken handheld ... with the other hand!! ;)

one of a pair living in the old house roof. they come out when i stop by... this day the bird flew from the roof to the porch to the tree off frame upper left, and did it all again at least three times, keeping an eye on me all the while.
This Tree Swallow seemed quite okay with me getting up pretty close with my camera, and taking as many photo's as I wanted.
When I woke up this morning the rain hadn't moved in yet, so I grabbed my camera and headed to my new favorite spot, the Warminster Community Park, which is a handy 5 minutes from my house. Every time I've been there I've been thrilled at the bird photo opportunities and the amazing variety of birds everywhere! Because the weather was so gray and threatening there was hardly anybody else walking the trails. I felt like it was just me and the wildlife, so wonderfully peaceful. I had wandered quite a way from the parking lot when it finally started to rain, and I had to make a mad dash back to the car. I hope you enjoy some of the different birds I managed to capture on my walk.
