Taken in Palmer,MA at an old railroad depot that has been repurposed as a restaurant. I don't know how often trains go through, but this was a lucky happenstance for this assignment.

These ferries are very handy. They dock quickly and neatly alongside. The side door opens and a pair of ramps are lowered. Elevators raise pallets to dock and forklift level. The ramp in the forground is for cars. They are lowered by another elevator to the car deck. A stop can be as short as fifteen or twenty minutes!
Running as part of Railtrack's Freight Multiple Unit (FMU) trials across the network in 2002, this FMU intermodal working with Railtrack's Windhoff MPV DR98925 leading had originated not too far away at Hams Hall Rail Freight Terminal when I photographed it heading up the WCML at Cathiron after my early shift at Rugby PSB.
I can't recall the working's destination for sure, but think it may have been the EWS intermodal terminal at Willesden.
GWR 2-8-0 3850 resplendent in BR Black Livery leaves Loughborough with the 16 tonnes mineral freight train, catching the only sun of the day I grab a luck shot.

This location opened on April 16th, 2021 and closed in 2022; it was previously an Office Depot, which opened on June 24th, 1996 and closed on May 16th, 2015. It became a Treasure Hunt Liquidators Bin MegaStore on January 13th, 2023, which closed in February 2026.
