Gogi berries at end of season. Freezing temperatures have occurred - November 2011. They could be called Ice-Gojis.
Wolfberry, commercially called goji berry, is the common name for the fruit of two very closely related species: Lycium barbarum and Lycium chinense.
Since the early 21st century there has been rapidly growing attention for wolfberries for their nutrient value and antioxidant content. They have been termed a superfruit, which has led to a profusion of consumer products.
We started to get fog in the mornings this month, and freezing temperatures some of the nights are telling what lies ahead.

Between my puppy, my full hard drive, insomnia and some other computer projects that make me incapable of looking at my screen, I've had difficulty making time for posting to Flickr or my website. That should be remedied soon. I am happy to report that despite the little prank by Spring (an inch of snow and a couple night of below freezing temperatures) the jumpers are out in pretty good force and I think I have some decent shots to share. I've spotted Sitticus pubescens, Salticus scenicus, Phidippus audax and possibly a Pelegrina sp.. Not a lot else buzzing about in the yard — the odd fly, one shiny little black weevil, a stray plant louse — but it's coming. Photos to follow suit. :o)
The night of August 17 was very cold, with a strong wind, snow, and freezing temperatures -- clearly the seasons were changing
We left Baltimore with sub freezing temperatures. The last thing we thought about was buying sunblock for Peru. After walking around all day in Barranco and Miraflores when I returned to the hotel I realized I had a problem. SUNBURN! I had forgotten how close the equator we would be! Needless to say buying sunblock was at the top of out list the next morning.

Looking over our home for the last 10 days - no surprise we are not enthusiastic to be returning to freezing temperatures back in Kent! Blue skies, turquoise sea, colourful flowers and wildlife, Antigua, you have been a taste of paradise :-)
Red Point - While storms rage in from the east, bringing Siberian air, snow and freezing temperatures to Europe and the UK, we have beautiful cold clear weather in the NW of Scotland.

When grown outdoors in Northern California, rajapuri produces outstanding quality fruit: this variety is a keeper! Leaves on this variety remain in good condition even with near freezing temperatures while American Goldfinger (FHIA-1) grown in the exact same environment has many brown leaves (see brown leaf in the right hand corner of the photo).
It’s that time of year again when EEC are getting ready to crawl through mud, jump into a container of ICE, run through wires containing 10,000 volts of electricity, – it can only be Tough Mudder 2014! The team are going to have to suffer through freezing temperatures, run 12 long miles through thick sticky mud, hills, rough terrain and did I mention the mud! It’s going to be epic and could possibly be the hardest and most gruelling event the team will ever face!
Last year EEC took on the Yorkshire event; this year we are taking on Tough Mudder North West at the Cholmondeley Estate with 13,000 other brave and crazy people! And after 6 hard weeks of Bootcamp, the team feel trained and are pumped up and raring to go. The course will test the team’s physical and mental limits, their sanity, bravery and biggest and deepest fears – electric shocks, shockingly icy water, dark and confined spaces, fire, heights, exhaustion… The course has been compared to that of Royal Marine training courses and only the bravest and most physically trained will manage to stagger across the finish line to get that much needed beer and well deserved headband.
6 brave members of the EEC team will also be taking on the ‘Mudder Legionnaire’ obstacles in the hope of joining the new ‘Mudder Legionnaire’ – a special organisation of multi-mudders, people who have completed 2 or more Tough Mudder events. If they manage to complete the course and the extra obstacles they will be rewarded with an extra green headband and ultimate respect.
And not only are the EEC team preparing to take on what is advertised as ‘possibly the toughest event on earth’ they are also busy raising money for two fantastic charities – Brain Tumour Research and Queenscourt Hospice. And did we mention we had to sign a death waiver?!

Strange to see so many seagulls in a landlocked country in sub-freezing temperatures. These birds are hanging out on the frozen surface of the reflection pool just in front of Gloriette.
Freezing temperatures and dipping water have formed some interesting ice features which look similar to stalagmites, on the floor of the 1907 railroad tunnel located at Conemaugh Dam.
Ice gradually builds upward from the floor as a deposit from ground water seeping through and dripping from the tunnel’s roof.
During construction of the dam this tunnel and the 1864 tunnel had to be plugged with a 20 ft plug to allow the dam to be filled. These tunnels are a popular site visit for many visitors and the 1907 railroad grade has been incorporated into the Conemaugh Valley Conservancy bike trail. There's just nothing like taking a dog outside when it's 23F (-5C) and standing around waiting. He took his sweater off overnight and is now wishing he hadn't been in such a hurry to get outside this morning and had waited for me to put it back on him.
Despite freezing temperatures and 30 mile per hours winds; we few, we happy few, we band of brothers (and sisters), have a MARVELOUS ride!

The icy signature of record-breaking freezing temperatures last night. For this largely tropical region, it is a Big Deal.

Hello..... Sorry for not posting for a while. Really not feeling photographically inspired with daily alternations between blinding snow storms and deep sub-freezing temperatures. Not to mention that it's hard on the gear. smile emoticon I notice an odd ability that I have to capture photos of interesting things that are then destroyed afterwards. 2 such occurences have happened in the past week. I'll post one tonight and another tomorrow night.
On the way home from work the other day, I noticed that the roof on the cabin in this picture has finally succumbed to nature. Very sad. I often drive by this wondering why someone would have allowed this to deteriorate to this condition. I would love a cabin like this of my own. Farewell cabin. You have fed my imagination dozens of times.

We had some thick fog last night. Combined with just-below-freezing temperatures meant that everything was sugar coated this morning.

We had a day after some snow that was quite cold and just the weather to try to freeze soap bubbles. My method closely followed the recommendations of Marianna Armata (www.flickr.com/photos/marianna_armata/15308138293/). I have some way to go to match her images but the formula and the use of a straw improved my success at forming the bubbles compared to last year. It has been warm and raining so I will have to wait for more sub-freezing temperatures.

It is almost December.. We have had freezing temperatures overnight for more than a week, but these little beings manage to thrive..I admire their strength and perseverance..
Canadian Falls at -28 degrees Celsius. Icicles form around this massive waterfall from freezing temperatures.
Perhaps the end of my series of aspen photos (but then again, perhaps not!). I was attracted to this stand of aspens, white trunks clearly visible as they stood against the talus slope behind with the morning sun backlighting their brilliant fall leaves. The warmth of the leaves surely made up for the below freezing temperatures on this cold October morning near South Lake, west of Bishop, CA!

The ice is so thick in the Vancouver Art Gallery fountain you can jump up and down on it or slide from one end to the other. That's rare for Vancouver.
