I live in a place that has wild summers and mild winters. Mild by east coast standards at least. It gets down to freezing temperatures during the nights, but all we get is some frost on the grass and nothing near snow.
So what do you do? You make it to fake it. I've made snow. Well, ok, a snowcone maker made snow. And the one thing I found out was that snowcone snow isn't a light and fluffy as the real thing. It turns to slush really quick. So what started as a "it's snowing and I want to catch a snowflake on my tongue" photoshoot turning into "You damn kids stop throwing wet snowballs at me and get down from the roof! It's the middle of Spring for pete sake!" shoot.
Sometimes you just have to roll with the punches and take what the shoot gives you. Always adapt. The outcome may not be what your dreamt up, but it will be interesting if you just keep shooting and dealing with the crazy variables.
Actually, the butterfly wanted nothing to do with me and didn't care that I worried for him with the upcoming freezing temperatures. I hope he headed southward.

After days of below freezing temperatures Eagle Creek Reservoir is starting to freeze. The image was made at Hobie Beach.
Freezing temperatures and dipping water have formed some interesting ice features which look similar to stalagmites, on the floor of the 1907 railroad tunnel located at Conemaugh Dam.
Ice gradually builds upward from the floor as a deposit from ground water seeping through and dripping from the tunnel’s roof.
During construction of the dam this tunnel and the 1864 tunnel had to be plugged with a 20 ft plug to allow the dam to be filled. These tunnels are a popular site visit for many visitors and the 1907 railroad grade has been incorporated into the Conemaugh Valley Conservancy bike trail. The sign said, "Free Poinsettia with Purchase of a Tree." After loading our evergreen in the back of our black truck (my husband likes the sound of a V-8's throaty roar), we walked inside the greenhouse...the moist warm air hitting us squarely in the face having left the freezing temperature outside and for a few moments one could imagine themselves in a tropical world. The woman inside said, "You can choose one" and before us sat what seemed like acres of red, white, pink, peppermint striped and magenta poinsettias. I took several pictures and will post one or two more...I must show you the Pixie Poinsettia (my name for it) as I've never seen a truly pink specimen before. I've been inspired by Raven Spirit and I may turn one of the photos into my Christmas cards...who knows!

We left Baltimore with sub freezing temperatures. The last thing we thought about was buying sunblock for Peru. After walking around all day in Barranco and Miraflores when I returned to the hotel I realized I had a problem. SUNBURN! I had forgotten how close the equator we would be! Needless to say buying sunblock was at the top of out list the next morning.
The cool morning air, maybe 16-17 degrees C, hinted at the shorter days and freezing temperatures ahead in a couple of months. By then this field will have ripened and the grain will have reached the right degree of moisture to be finished in the grain elevator dryer and bagged for long-term cool storage. The prominent red sign and nearby fire hydrant might seem out of place next to the rice field, but to the left of this frame is a row of houses built within the past 20 years. It would not be surprising for more houses to replace the productive paddy field in future years as more people leave the countryside and the core of the oldest part of the city in favor of the easy parking and access to highways when living here on top of former rice paddies.

For almost two hours I stood outside in freezing temperatures wishing to not miss a moment as we passed through the Lemaire channel. An early morning wake up at 5am with the sun still high meant I could spend all day outside just glazing. It was too much beauty to take in.

They included apple, beet, carrot, swiss chard, cucumber. ginger, kale, celery and a rounded teaspoon of Pines Wheat Grass.

Played the whole round in dense fog and below freezing temperatures this morning. Temporary greens obviously. Still great fun. Amazingly only lost 1 ball!

Getting this picture today not only was a bitch, it was very awkward. I went to Rock Cut National Park here in Rockford, IL. It was such a disgusting day. It was constantly spitting rain and mist and not to mention it was about the freezing temperature. At one point it started to snow while I was shooting. I don't think I was supposed to go off of the given "trails" that the park gives you, but I did anyway. It made me a bit nervous because there were hikers and walkers while I was shooting. Not only was I setting up this shoot only a visibly 50 feet away from a walking trail, I had 2 bags with me, a few of outfits, props, my camera & tripod, an an open umbrella, and my other pair of shoes. While I was blindfolded and taking these pictures (I eventually took some with my shirt off) I heard a noise and lifted my blindfold only to find 2 people staring at me from the trail, rather perplexed. Granted, they were probably checking to make sure I was alright. I probably freaked them out since I was tied up, blindfolded, and shirtless.
This picture holds more symbolism for me than I can explain in words right this moment.

We had an uncharacteristically large amount of snow in Corvallis this week! Nearly 8" in one night, and thanks to the below freezing temperatures all day, it's not going anywhere! Rachel and I went out yesterday to take advantage of the magnificent lighting.

Some sub-zero movement. The sun is hitting these icicles causing them to slowly melt outside my window. With the freezing temperatures, that's about the only movement outside today.
St Giles church is one of the most prominent architectures along the Royal Mile.. It is named after the patron saint of Edinburgh.
There were few ghost tours that started from the church and it took us almost a 30 min wait at 11.00pm in the night in freezing temperature to shoot this. It definitely boasts a haunted look..!
