I just heard that I did not get a gig I was really gunning for, so as a companion piece to my earlier photo post, this is what sucks about freelancing.

Not getting the gig.

Not getting the gig after doing spec work.

Not getting the gig after doing spec work that required downloading not one, but two programs. Luckily one was free and one was cheap.

Sending out bids or resumes and never getting a response.

Sending out a bid, and then the client decides to do it "in house-" i.e. they give the office manager the camera and let her go to it.

Sending out a bid and then the person who I was working with's boss decides to go with someone else.

The job gets cancelled.

When the client does not pay. (Thankfully, this has never happened to me, but I know it happens all the time.)

When the client is slow to pay. This happens all the time these days.

Worrying about money.

Having an enthusiastic talk with someone about a job or a contract and then they never call me back.

Having an enthusiastic talk with someone about a job or a contract and then either the project never gets off the ground or funding is not available.

Losing a wedding bid because the client's kid sister is "getting into photography" and they decide to go that route.

Yep. There is a lot of suck, but the suck is worth putting up with in the long run, or at least that's what I am telling myself now! If all goes well, I will land some gigs eventually, and if not, you may see me stocking shelves at Target!

Please, feel free to add a note to the photo!

Taken with my iPhone, I was walking from school to Bart (Oh, and this is a REALLY old picture, taken on March 10, 2009, BTW) and saw this one guy with two Canon bodies each loaded with L glass on him. x]

Did some cropping and sharpening in LR because I was bored.
