It has been a brutal winter for many of us in North America and Europe, so I felt a Spirit of Spring was needed, to help lift our Spirits :-)

This hair style was very easy. The yarn does the work with this one. I crocheted a wig cap from very hairy mohair yarn, and crocheted loop stitches across the front for bangs (worked for 12 stitches).
I then cut strands about 14 inches long and hooked two rows of these from one edge of the bangs to the other, these would go from the sides to the back of the head.
Sew the wig cap to the head, then take a few strands on either side of her head, give them a couple twists, then secure the twists to the wig cap with a couple of very small hair clips (I buy mine at the drug store where they sell hair brushes, elastic bands, etc.)

Sarah showing off her ruffled petticoat. I used size 3 crochet cotton, instead of the recommended acrylic sport yarn. They both work up to about the same gage.

The dress is from an Annie Potter Presents pattern leaflet.
Hair! My favorite part of making the doll is the wigging. Bleu is happy now; even though its hard to tell from her expression :-)

Mini Free Spirit work-in-progress. Her body was crocheted from Vanna's Choice yarn in Beige. The hair is one strand of a linen/mohair blend and one strand of a mohair yarn. Both yarns are fingering weight.

What do you do when every flat surface in your house has dolls on it? I decided to turn my china cabinet into a doll cabinet. I still have a few precious pieces of the china on dislplay; our wedding china (Noritake), china handed down from a great uncle circa 1915 (Haviland) and my personal favorite, Blue Willow. the teapot was a gift from my Grandmother.
But the rest is dolls!
Lizzie's new dress, modeled by Emilie. Liz will be a little upset there wasn't enough material left for pockets...
Made for the Bay Area Modern Quilt Guild's Habitat Challenge.
You can see I did embraced the crazy. : ) Thanks so much for all your support on that. I think it turned out kind of fun. Crazy, but fun.

Work in progress for full size Free Spirit. I used Vanna's Choice yarn in Beige for the body, and the hair yarn is going to be a strand of worsted weight mohair and lace weight mohair/silk blend, in light brunette.

There's a definite air of menace, with the dodgy guy in the background eyeing her up. For this photo I flipped the flash head to bounce off the ceiling of the bar, which is why there aren't any reflections of the flash in her eyes.
So we tried them on and this is how it worked out, wig-wise :-)

I'm leaning toward a dark brown Hoffman batik binding or small border but we'll see when I get to my favorite quilt shop (Sister's Fabric/Chehalis, WA) as she says she has the Moondance group so I might like one of the prints for a border too. For instructions on how to make see my blog quiltsaladspeak.blogspot.com/
Another American Indian outfit crocheted for Free Spirit. The pattern is from an Annie's Attic pattern booklet I've had for a few years. I used Caron Simply Soft yarn and an E hook.
The yarn is a bit 'splitty' to use with such a small hook, but the outfit fits nicely with little adjustment.
