What is it about hitchhiking and seeing the world on a shoe string budget that appeals to many of us deep inside. When I viewed this young man years ago I was struck by how confident and energetic his outlook was on life. What was interesting about this young man I thought was that instead of a backpack that most hitchhikers carried he had a suitcase. Always go in style he said with a grin. In many ways he reminded me of myself long ago hitting the road seeing what's behind the next bend and whatever comes along, comes along. It was the traveling part that I enjoyed the most, the going rather than the getting there & enjoying life's experiences along the way and if I got to where I was going that was okay, and if I ended up somewhere else that was okay too.
Garberville, California seems to be a mecca or a meeting place where hitchhikers traveling about stop and rest & re-group for a couple of days and talk to fellow hitchhikers about their travels and experiences. And then when the moment or inkling struck them they would once again start thumbing their way out of town whether going North-South East or West. To be young again and carefree....

When you are out on the open road, it is good to be with good company. Free spirits are hard to find. Some consider me to be a free spirit , I am not so sure.
It is always good to have the camera in your lap.
Friends should definitely view this in at least a large size to get the full effect of wrong way Corrigan.

a single wingbeat against a sky of fading fire. the sea sleeps below, the hills exhale, and the bird — unnamed, unhurried — drifts through the silence of goodbye.

I've finished up my pillow for the Pillow Talk swap! Someone needs to get ready for a rather large pillow cover... it's fit for a 24" square pillow.

I went out onto the Downs this evening to shoot some the the beautiful poppies that are in full bloom right now. Spent an hour or so in Falmer, and then moved on to Ditchling Beacon for sunset. This boy was walking behind me with his mum, then he broke into a sprint and raced past me.
Here is the best bit…
I caught up with the boy a few minutes later over the top of the hill. There he was getting a great big hug from his dad who had been waiting for him to arrive. A fitting and moving end to Fathers Day. The boy had broken into a sprint because he couldn't wait to see his dad. Great kid.
Happy Fathers Day.
"Tell me about despair, yours, and I will tell you mine.
Meanwhile the world goes on.
Meanwhile the sun and the clear pebbles of the rain
are moving across the landscapes,
over the prairies and the deep trees,
the mountains and the rivers.
Meanwhile the wild geese, high in the clean blue air,
are heading home again.
Whoever you are, no matter how lonely,
the world offers itself to your imagination,
calls to you like the wild geese, harsh and exciting –
over and over announcing your place
in the family of things.”

This spot made me feel tiny and insignificant...but also not. I also felt extremely connected to it. A juxtaposition of feeling unimportant in a vast, wild landscape, but also feeling like it was mine to behold.
While coming back from work one day, saw this man sitting in a DIFFERENT position on a motorcycle which was already overloaded with milk containers! Couldnot resist taking his pic !
Power Up with Lily ...my highest paid model. As i stoke the woodstove each morning I'm reminded of last winter with all the snow and the many times i got stuck with my lousy ski-doo.
My son Micah has the most amazing free spirit. I found this photo in my archives this evening. I love how he is watching the tide wash over his feet. Feeling, experiencing, loving. There is no pretense, nothing fake about how he experiences life. He accepts people and experiences for what they are. I'm not a perfect parent or person. I make mistakes, I cry, I need support. One hug from this precious boy reminds me that every struggle, every fight, every tear is worth it and then some.
I wanted dreadlocks for as long as I can remember but I never got around to it.. then I lost my hair from chemotherapy last year but it's growing back thicker & faster than ever.
I have almost 6 inches of natural dark curly hair right now - I'm wearing a dread wig in this self-portrait from an indoor tent set I built in January 2020, and I've been wearing another dark dreadlock wig I made from a normal wig, but I'm thinking it might soon be time to properly weave some in.
I try to regularly reinvent myself & experiment with identity through creative expression. I think for many, the fear of being ridiculed or judged for not dressing or looking a certain way stops them from expressing who they are or who they want to be, which is quite tragic considering we only have a certain number of years on this planet to make an impact and live with as much freedom and self-acceptance as possible.
But 34, (as I now am) or 74, it is never too late to reinvent yourself physically or mentally, or your values, just make sure you do so for yourself and no-one else.

Painted in 1996 with Monk, Bates and I believe Faze, as well but I think he painted a little ways down from us. This was painted in some abondon factory in Copenhagen, Denmark. This was based off of a pen sketch that I had done while on the 7 hour plane ride from over seas. Bates had the idea for us all to rock silvers so we could get done faster. He was working on painting the inside of a Hospital at the time and was pretty busy and burnt out from painting. I'm sure hosting two crazy Americans was a little tiring, too. He was a very gracious host and we had a great time while over there. I remember asking Monk if he wanted to paint in the middle next to Bates and he was like, "No, why don't you, you guys seem to have been hitting it off as friends." Which was true. Over the course of the 2 weeks we were there, we got along really well. I think it was my outgoing attitude and freespirit that made Bates take a liking to me. Plus, Monk, as down to do anything and as brave as he was, came off a little shy and reserved. Bates was a few years older then us and him and I bonded on some crazy, real life, good time fun, shit. It was like hanging with your cool older brother's friend. Not to play myself out too hard but it was quite a big deal for a young punk like myself to make it out to Europe and paint with one of Europe's finest in the game. Shit, I was living in a small metropolitian city in Minnesota. That was a huge accomplishment. I really owe it all to my main Homie, Monk, too. I would have never had the guts to call up a super famous writer and complete stranger from another country and ask if I could stay at his crib, get a graffiti tour of the city and paint walls with him. It's just not something I could have brought myself to do. Atleast at that point in my life. Nowadays, I probably could. The crazy thing about this little production, Bates rocked this pretty simple but dope style, letter piece, to the left of me. When we got close to finishing, he ended up completely filling in all the letters and the negative space between the letters and just did some text inside it that read, B-A-T-E-S, spaced out. I didn't understand it. His piece looked so fresh. Either way, it looked fresh. I didn't get it but I think he might have been having a personal struggle that day with style because next to his piece he wrote, "The Good, The Bad and the Ugly". I thought it was super fresh both ways and the idea to do that was real innovative to me. Still, I enjoyed just the chance to get up with the Danish Homie. Hopefully, someday we will get the chance to do it again. Great times!
I bought this today for $4 at Mahoney's Nursery, where there's a large selection of cut flowers. I have to stop myself from splurging on them! This is a 100-frame focus stack. I used Helicon Focus to blend them together for this photo. I'm shining a purple LED lamp on a patterned lavender fabric for the backdrop. I should find some filler flowers for bokeh in my next focus stack.
Taken during the trip to New Mexico a few years ago and loved how it looked! NM style car for Route 66 ??? 😅
