H. 'Avocado' is fragrant. A twig hangs from a tear in the big leaf on the right, souvenir of storms a few days back. No hail, just heavy rains and some high winds.

Fragrant Plantainlily (Hosta plantaginea) or Maruba Tama-no-Kanzashi has white blooms with a delightful and welcome fragrance in August when few plants provide blooms and fragrance. It is one of the first hostas introduced in the United States. Any hosta with fragrant flowers has some Hosta plantaginea parentage. Literally, it is "fragranted". The oil is made of yak butter, and gives off quite a strong and distinct smell.
Such garland shops on the roadside are found in every area of Madurai. The garlands are used for pooja, functions and also for honouring guests and in funerals too.

Mink Frog and Fragrant Water Lily in our backyard pond. Some say these frogs smell like a mink, others like rotten onions. It would probably keep me from eating him, but I don't know if it will affect the visiting Blue Heron - he doesn't have any smelling apparatus.
