Fragrant sand verbena growing on sandy substrates at the base of sandstone cliffs by the Gallo Campground of the Chaco Culture National Historical Park, San Juan County, New Mexico. The glandular upper leaf surfaces and conspicuously hairy lower leaf surfaces distinguish this Abronia species in flower from the similar Abronia elliptica, fragrant white sand verbena, which occurs mainly to the north and west of this area of New Mexico.
I took this photo this afternoon while I was waiting for my daughter at a front garden of the elementary school. The sweet scent filled the air. :)
