They are referred to as "badlands", but perhaps that is too harsh a term. I found them to be "nice lands". Unusual sight.

The U.S. Air Force Air Demonstration Squadron, known to all the world as the “Thunderbirds”, are the Air Force’s Ambassadors in Blue. They represent the 500,000 men and women of the United States Air Force. The Thunderbirds plan and present precision aerial maneuvers to exhibit the capabilities of modern, high-performance aircraft and the high degree of professional skill required to operate those aircraft. The Thunderbirds squadron is composed of eight pilots (including six demonstration pilots), four support officers, four civilians and more than 100 enlisted personnel.
The Thunderbirds air demonstration is a mix of formation flying and solo routines. The four-jet diamond formation demonstrates the training and precision of Air Force pilots, while the two solo aircraft highlight some of the extreme capabilities of the F-16. In all, the pilots perform approximately 40 maneuvers in a single demonstration. An aerial demonstration lasts 60 minutes with an additional 15 minutes for the ground show before takeoff.
During a typical season the Thunderbirds perform no more than 70 air demonstrations in 35 cities throughout the nation. More than 280 million people in all 50 states and 57 foreign countries have seen the red, white and blue Thunderbirds jets.
Thunderbirds were officially activated June 1, 1953, as the 3600th Air Demonstration Unit at Luke AFB, Arizona. The unit was nicknamed the “Stardusters.” Their first aircraft was the straight-winged F-84G Thunderjet. The team transitioned to the swept-winged F-84F Thunderstreak in 1955. In June 1956, the team moved to its current home at Nellis AFB in Nevada and traded the veteran F-84 for the world’s first supersonic fighter, the F-100 Super Sabre. In early 1964, the team changed briefly to the F-105B Thunderchief, but after only six shows returned to the F-100. In 1969 the team transitioned to the F-4E Phantom and then in 1974 to the T-38 Talon, a more fuel efficient jet. In 1983 the Thunderbirds began flying the
F-16 and continue to do so. - Was a huge thrill on a magnificent day!

This area is an example of Nature's creativity. With rains and strong winds, the formations are changed. A Beautiful area for a snapshot....

The top of Kinder Scout in the Peak District really provides some spectacular views. I was fortunate enough to enjoy some amazing weather while in England.
England has had some recent newspaper headlines that read "4 Million households where no adults work". This means that roughly 7 million Britons under-65-years-olds are currently living with no work experience. Britain even allocates over 36 billion pounds to 'jobseekers'. In other words, if you're out of a job, England will pay you to search for one. Being paid to 'search' for a job doesn't sound like much of an encouragement to find one. What I was even more shocked to learn is the incentives England provides to those who have kids: if you have a child, the government provides housing and a monthly wage. I couldn't find anything to substantiate this fact on the internet but I heard it from more than one person while visiting England.

If you follow me at all, you will note that there are two types of landscapes that fascinate me: mountains and desert. For some reason, they make me relax and I just seep in all that nature has to offer. One of the great desert destinations that I enjoy is Sedona. It is a beautiful place with the requisite sandstone rock formations. On my last visit there, my wife and I were traveling with great friends. I am the only photographer in the group, and my only real photography time is at sunrise. I usually head out before dawn and shoot until it is time to meet them for breakfast. On this occasion, I asked my wife if she wanted to come, not expecting her to say yes (she never has before). She shocked me by saying yes. We headed out before 5:30am, and I drove to this location overlooking the town. I got out of the car and set up. I don't think she got out of the car more than once, and it was for a short time. Needless to say, it was the last time she said that she would go with me for a shoot.

Fossil Bee of an unidentified family in the Parachute Creek Member of the Green River Formation. This insect lived during Eocene time, around 50 million years ago. It was was found in the shallow lacustrine deposits of Lake Uintah, the largest of the three lakes of the Green River system. The specimen is about 1.5 cm long. Bonanza, Uintah Co., Utah.
Sedimentary formations dot the landscape of Southern Africa between Upington, South Africa and Luderitz, Namibia. This is evidence that at one time in the past eons, this whole area was underwater. Image taken from a small plane flying over this barren yet colorful landscape with a personality all its own.
