At Sunday, 15.12.2013 was very sunny, warm day...the first one after long week, I was lucky to watch and taken spectacular play of clouds formation !

These are tiny ice formations encasing the needles on my Yew hedges. I took this after a few days of rain and cold weather.
The two macro photos were taken with FinePix S700.

It’s that time of the year for the White Pelicans to stop to refuel for a month before going further South. Every year the numbers increase since they became protected about forty years ago. I’ll catch up with them in the 10,000 Islands on the south gulf coast. One of my favorites.

Pigeons and doves constitute the family Columbidae within the order Columbiformes, which include some 300 species of near passerine birds. In general parlance the terms "dove" and "pigeon" are used somewhat interchangeably. In ornithological practice, there is a tendency for "dove" to be used for smaller species and "pigeon" for larger ones, but this is in no way consistently applied, and historically the common names for these birds involve a great deal of variation between the term "dove" and "pigeon." This family occurs worldwide, but the greatest variety is in the Indomalaya and Australasia ecozones. The doves and pigeons are called "squabs."
Doves and pigeons build relatively flimsy nests from sticks and other debris, which may be placed in trees, on ledges, or on the ground, depending on species. They lay one or two eggs, and both parents care for the babies, which leave the nest after 7 to 28 days. Doves feed on seeds, fruit and plants. Unlike most other birds, the doves and pigeons produce "crop milk," which is secreted by a sloughing of fluid-filled cells from the lining of the crop. Both male and female produce this highly nutritious substance to feed to the babies.

I was out for sunrise (which was blocked by a heavy layer of clouds) on Gothic Road outside of Crested Butte, Colorado. I really liked the formation in this Aspen stand with early morning fog lifting from the trees.

Terrace formations at Mammoth Hot Springs area in Yellowstone National Park. Not sure exactly how these how these terrace-like formations develop, but they look really cool!
Actually Jamaica Beach is a shore of Lake Garda, but the low water level showed bizzare rock formations.

This morning my car was frozen solid on my drive. Once I managed to open the door I sat inside with the heater and heated windscreen on full blast and waited for it do defrost. I glanced at the passenger door window and couldn’t believe how incredibly beautiful the ice had formed on the window. I had my camera with me so snapped away. It wasn’t until I uploaded this image to my iPad I noticed the spooky little face on the right hand side 😱
This was taken a couple of weeks ago ... the ice is all gone now and the long winter is becoming a distant memory. We had a hot week last week with 30C + but it has cooled down again ... it's getting close to zero at night so Rosa is covering her gardens and potted plants to protect against frost.
