The Forecast is a great band from my home town of Peoria, IL. They are totally awesome! If I recall they wouldn't let me pay for this shirt, and that it was given to me after watching "Waiting" with Dustin, Roots, Atomic and Sean Brant. It was a pretty fun night, and hey awesome shirt! For free! I even had my hand in my wallet!
We saw a woolly worm on the path at Midewin, allowing us to access the official woolly worm forecast telling us how bad a winter we're going to have. This woolly worm was fairly light, with just a bit of black at its front end. So the woolly worms evidently believe that we're going to have a storm at the start of winter, but the rest of the season will be pretty easy.
(It's good to use words like "evidently" when talking about woolly worm forecasts. You don't want to go out and misinterpret woolly worm prognostication without adequate evidence.)

Our weather forecasts rely on a network of balloon-borne observations launched every day, all over the world. Small enough to fit in the palm of your hand, these tiny sensors capture the state of the atmosphere in real time, ascending high into the stratosphere more than 20km above the surface. The data from these little pioneers is transmitted to weather centres like the Met Office and are essential to keep our weather forecasts running. Sometimes, we need to know more about complex weather patterns to improve our forecasts models. Researchers at the University of Bath joined a Europe-wide project launching hundreds of these little balloons in quick succession over the Italian Alps to characterise the most complex weather patterns. Armed with these new observations, our researchers are helping to develop the Met Office's next-generation forecast model, helping to improve our weather and climate forecasts at home and abroad.

The forecast called for mostly cloudy to cloudy so the nice sky was a surprise. We've gotten a little more snow the last few days, 1-2 inches, and it's made a quite a difference in the rougher trails. 1F to 6F
What a difference a couple of days can make, a short-lived warm up.
It's 45F here now with a windchill of 39F with possible flurries in the forecast for tomorrow morning!
This would go down as an all time record smasher.
