MOSCOW (AP) — A volcano erupted early Tuesday on Russia’s far japanese Kamchatka Peninsula, spewing clouds of mud 20 kilometers (65,600 toes) into the sky and protecting broad areas with ash.
The ash cloud from the eruption of Shiveluch, one among Kamchatka’s most lively volcanoes, prolonged over 500 kilometers (greater than 300 miles) northwest and engulfed a number of villages in gray volcanic mud.
Officers closed the skies over the realm to plane. Native authorities suggested residents to remain indoors and shut colleges in a number of affected communities. Two villages had their energy provides reduce for a couple of hours till emergency crews restored them.

Skies looking rather ominous this afternoon. Pic taken from around San Jose, CA. The National Weather Service forecast for the San Francisco Bay Area for Saturday called for scattered showers and thunderstorms on the tail end of a weather system that had blew thru the region Friday. The center of the weather system (low pressure area) appeared to almost be stationary, off the California coast this day and here in the South Bay, we were on the northern edges of the low where t-storms bubbled up during the afternoon hours. It appeared that this was mainly a South Bay thunderstorm event. Thunder and lightning was particularly noteworthy in the South Bay, where the weather service even issued a Severe Thunderstorm Warning near Morgan Hill. Massive amounts of hail and lightning were witnessed around Morgan Hill and south San Jose with the slow-moving storms that did form…
I actually had to leave a bit early from my sister’s baby sprinkle event to chase the storms that did form near Morgan Hill. It was worth it. This storm(s) had turned severe-warned. Much of the hail activity was seen along US 101. The hailstorm/graupel halted the SB side to a crawl. A decent amount of lightning was witnessed within this storm. I even got lucky enough to capture a rare occurrence of a plane getting struck by lightning! I later called it a day shortly before 5pm, with occasional downpours continuing all the way home. Talk about a crazy weather day for us on the eve of Easter! (Saturday afternoon, March 30, 2024)
If I can shake loose of some honey dos maybe I can get this QCX radio kit sorted out...it looks like a good weekend to take cover to me... humdity!
