Quite a muggy day with more on the way!
Very similar to last year at this time.
We are safe from hurricane Florence from now according to some.

The weather forecast was iffy, and we considered hiking another day. THANK GOODNESS we went, because it was a perfect day's hike: not too hot, not too cold; a little breeze to keep things fresh; and a trail with snow nicely packed down, but not icy. It was a bit unusual for us, because we could see from the cloud movement there were big winds afoot, but this time, they were from the north, and we were completely sheltered from them the entire hike. An odd thing happened as well. Early, we met a fellow descending on a mountain bike. He looked a little worried, because he lost track of his dog Cypress. When we returned to the trailhead, we saw that his car was gone, so we're assuming there was a happy ending to his story. Total return distance, 7.4 km's, total elevation gain, 706 m's, moving time, 2 hrs, 27 minutes; total time, 3 hrs, 17 minutes.
Even with all this action and I wasn't that far from the pit. I only walked away with a little spot of mud on my shirt and no worries for the camera. The drivers don't fare so well.

An under construction shot of my latest piece, Forecast. Just got to do the rain drops and a sig and it'll be complete. The rain drops will be a little time consuming though so probably wont complete if for a little while.

I've used this web app forever and have never written about it. I think it's the best weather app I've seen so far. I'm biased because I use Weather Underground's full site over anything else also. Weather Underground for the iPhone is easy to get to, just go to i.wund.com.
Once there you can type in a city or zip in the search bar and find your city.
Once you find it, you can tap on the plus sign in Safari and add it to your home screen. I named mine Underground but weather would work well too. You could even do a few for different cities and name them the city.
The page is broken up into 4 sections: Current, Radar, Forecast & Warnings. Current shows you all kinds of info like conditions, temperature, humidity, wind, even sunrise and sunset.
My favorite is the Radar section. Most important, it allows for animation. It also has three zoom options from Local to Region. There's even a Severe Weather Overlay.
The Forecast is a list of the next 7 days with icons describing the weather and a small text description. It usually includes sunny or cloudy, precipitation percentage, temperature, wind, and night conditions.
Finally there is a warning section for some areas. This includes tornadoes, floods, hurricanes, etc.
Overall, I think this is the best weather application and runs quick even on slow connections. The part is that it's free.

Checking the weather web site there it is, a snow fall warning. Another 10cm (4 inches) of snow forecast for Monday. Hope they are wrong but we have been warned.
Project: Spring Forecasting Experiment
Location: National Weather Center (Norman, Oklahoma)
Date: May 2023
Photographer: James Murnan (NOAA/NSSL)
Summary: The Spring Forecasting Experiment provides opportunities for forecasters to provide feedback to ensure that new guidance products and visualization approaches meet their needs. This is a unique opportunity to see and influence the future of NWS forecasting tools for high-impact weather.
* The experiment is directly aligned with NOAA FACETs and Warn-on Forecast (WoF) programs, including examination and evaluation of real-time forecasts from a prototype WoF ensemble system.
* Activities are formulated to provide evidence-based information on how best to design convection-allowing models and ensemble systems, which is accomplished through contributions to the Community-Leveraged Unified Ensemble (CLUE) by EMC, GSL, NCAR, NSSL, and GFDL.
* The SFE supports NOAA plans to develop a simplified, unified forecast system (UFS) centered on the FV3 dynamic core. A prototype FV3-based CAM system called the Rapid Refresh Forecast System (RRFS) will be evaluated against the operational HRRR and HREF for severe weather forecasting applications..
* New testing and evaluation activities for SFE 2023 will include examinations of regional and global-with-nest versions of the Model for Prediction Across Scales (MPAS). New extended range (Days 3-8) CAM ensemble evaluations will also be conducted.
SF is getting quite chilly. Cloudy5.6 would be a good # to keep in mind.
Have a nice weekend everyone.
The memorial is located near the Brandenburg Gate. It was built between 2003 and 2005 according to a design by architect Peter Eisenman. This design represents a radical approach to the traditional concept of a memorial, partly because he does not use any symbolism. The grid pattern, consisting of 2711 concrete stelae, which can be walked through from all sides, leaves it up to the visitors to find their own way in and out of the complex.
Using ECMWF's Forecasts (UEF) meetings provide a forum for exchanging ideas and experiences on the use of ECMWF data and products. UEF2022 took place virtually and in-person from 7 to 10 June 2022, and the theme was ‘Visualising Meteorological Data’.
David Richardson (ECMWF) presented 'ECMWF product development'.

Fashion Forecast: Having rubbed my crystal ball sufficiently for a vision to come into focus, I forsee breast plates reigning over the fashion world sometime in the next 12 months. You're thinking, "Nonsense", I know, but my crystal ball says otherwise. So 12 months from now, you can write me and admit I was right all along, then maybe I'll forgive you. But you must be sincere. You'd look pretty rediculous justifying your doubt while dressed in your breast plate.
