Unfortunately the forecast and Denis were correct. Weather has dramatically changed so no beach activities today. Instead this is the outlook from the house where we are staying. You would normally see a mountain here but today, just the bottom part is visible. The rain hasn't stopped the House Martin's (black speck!) who have been busy on the wing chasing what must be, waterproof flies.

WASHINGTON — The Washington area’s Metro subway and bus system will be closed Monday as the nation’s capital braces for Hurricane Sandy.
Metro officials say they made the decision after getting updated forecasts calling for higher wind speeds. The closure of federal government offices in the Washington area also factored into the decision
The forecast for today was supposed to be thunderstorms, so I'd saved a lot of the indoor shots for today.

Hello to all my Okie friends. We are still in CO, but wanted to share this forecast from Cornell. Lots of neotropicals coming through Oklahoma the next few days. Get out and see some birds that just pass through. A great time for some Life Birds.
I got a Life Bird over at Mesa Verde NP-- a White-headed Woodpecker. Way out of range for it. Normally out on the Pacific coast, but one of my Pagosa birding buddies saw one here up the Blanco River.
Good birding!

At the time people were still selling these beasts; so the Popular Photography editors did pretty well in predicting CdS meter cells and zoom lenses would soon become ubiquitous.
The cartoon rabbit and mouse would really like to be let out of those test tubes.

A shot of an old barn that I've passed by tons of times but never noticed until this past week. It's a big, old barn that has obviously seen better times. I really like the colors ...
We are bracing ourselves for a big storm that is "supposed" to move through our area later today. I have a meeting in Farmington Hills at noon and I'm hoping to be home before the snow really comes down!
*Today's Random Fact: Driving in the snow, especially during a storm, makes me very nervous. I am not so much afraid of hitting another vehicle, I'm more afraid of another car hitting ME. I suppose this fear stems for the fact that years ago I was in a car accident - another car hit me and totaled my father's car. As my grandmother used to say, "you always have to watch out for the other guy." She was also fond of the saying, "Love many, trust few, and always paddle your own canoe" which I think is a great quote. If you really think about it, it is very true.
Happy Saturday, all.
At least 1100 Peruvian families living in areas vulnerable to heavy rains linked to El Niño received a humanitarian donation from the Peruvian Red Cross in March 2016, as part of the Forecast-based Financing programme supported by the German government and Red Cross, with technical advice from the Climate Centre. Seasonal forecasts at the end of 2015 and more recent short-term forecasts of heavy rain triggered non-food assistance that included water purification, fumigation against disease-carrying mosquitoes, sanitation measures and hygiene kits to families in the communities of Laynas, Huaquilla, Serran and Pedregal (see file names for locations). The communities were selected as the most vulnerable after a joint assessment involving local and regional authorities and Red Cross. The 30 Red Cross volunteers who conducted the distribution also provided advice on early warning, first aid, health, and shelter. Olveis Pizarro, a Serran community member, said Red Cross training had enabled people to strengthen their own cooperation, while Berenilda Aguirre of Huaquilla said: “We are glad to have been trained to prepare for a disaster. Now we are a close-knit community, and much less concerned.” (Angela Zapata/German Red Cross and Climate Centre)

Calgary, Alberta. Early spring.
New office towers and high-rise apartments are being built all over Calgary. From a distance, the residential developments appear to be forming a new downtown. In fact, they are clustered only 1 to 3 blocks from the core, and up close they are as tall as many of the office towers.
A severe -40 C wind chill (my estimate) was blowing and my head and ears were freezing even though I was wearing a hat and warm coat. My attire was inadequate for the weather so I used high ISO and wide aperture to minimize "my" exposure so to speak.
