Absolutely no information about the Flickr revolution which is becoming just another social network and not a photography sharing site !!!

I'm able to say GOODBYE TO FLICKR

Dear flickr friends, instead of enjoying christmas time a nightmare has come true. It seems flickr brings some trouble to us again!

So many clicks to find what you want, black side bar crammed with 'stuff', group discussions 'hidden' and a lot of social interaction missing.

Not sure this protest will have any more influence on things than the previous ones but got to give it a try.

"The race was on to find other areas of search where we could build a commanding lead," says one high ranking Yahoo executive familiar with the deal.

Flickr offered a way to do that. Because Flickr photos were tagged and labeled and categorized so efficiently by users, they were highly searchable.

"That is the reason we bought Flickr—not the community. We didn't give a shit about that. The theory behind buying Flickr was not to increase social connections, it was to monetize the image index. It was totally not about social communities or social networking. It was certainly nothing to do with the users."

And that was the problem. At the time, the Web was rapidly becoming more social, and Flickr was at the forefront of that movement. It was all about groups and comments and identifying people as contacts, friends or family. To Yahoo, it was just a fucking database.

"I spent years at Yahoo trying to signal the alarm that Facebook was going to take over the adult market unless we stepped in and used our existing social networks to fight back," laments one former Yahoo engineer who worked on products at both the parent company and Flickr. "Obviously this never went anywhere for a multitude of reasons."

If the Internet really were a series of tubes, Yahoo would be the leaking sewage pipe, covering everything it comes in contact with in watered-down shit.

And it's now happening all over again, as the yesterday's massive flickrape of paying customers,

and this discussion, conceived in its wake clearly shows...

Even the newspapers have raised their brows to the enormous backlash from Flickr users.

Just for fun :-)

With descriptions curtailed and comments effectively hidden most of my stuff is going to be pretty pointless being posted here.

In the run up to the anniversary of the out-break of WW1, I was particularly looking to give the individuals on Norfolk War Memorials something more than just a name by telling a bit more of their life stories.

I've flounced from Flickr before when they made changes, was miserable for a couple of months that I couldn't find anything better and then came back when I discovered they had quietly undone many of the bad changes - well apart from having titles under pictures that is:-0.

When the changes were made earlier this year I was hoping something similar might happen but it looks like its going to get worse.

BTW Flickr, my tech-savvy kids with Windows 8, newer computers and ipads and softphones occasionally end up on Flickr from an internet search, say this is c**p as they have the typical attention span of their generation, and scoot of somewhere else.

Its not just us old foggies on XP who are hacked off :-)

Essayez !!!!

Tout ceci est très décourageant

dear Flickr, we have some really good, caring communities here -- please, please don't mess that up! I have adjusted to the previous changes even though I still do not like them like the old flickr. Please don't make things even harder to use!

Thought it'd be cool to host a Battlefront event for all the LEGO Military Community etc. members here on Flickr! We'll be playing Walker Assault and Cargo game modes as those seem to both popular and fun. To join is simple:

1) Add "MajorBonacelli" to your Friend's List.

2) Be online at the designated time.

3) Join the Party I'll create.

4) Kill Rebel Scum or Bucketheads!

Requirements include having Star Wars Battlefront obviously, as well as having a PS4. I also ask those who join not to speak profanity etc. I sadly do not have a mic setup yet so I can't chat either. :-(

Either or, I hope this event will be entertaining for all! Hope you can make it!

So, now the world knows how I feel about the new Flickr

Two years ago I (try) painted this boar. It was after many years without any painting my first experiment and I kinda like it. It was a present. Today I took a photo of it in the area where a lot of them live.

I had fun making this using www.stclaire.com and PhotoShop.

Sometimes the simplest gift are my favorite. This is from my dear friend, Nicole. Whom I met through Flickr.

Thanks to everyone in the Flickr community who has liked, commented on, critiqued, & admired my photos/photostream! I appreciate it SO much :) I've still got a lot of learning to do - which, as we all know, is a never ending process in photography.

Also, thank you to all bloggers that have participated in my 365 photo project - it's gotten way more attention & participation than I had anticipated, & I look forward each day to seeing what you all post!

I hate this experience that was forced on me. This has everything to do with why I don't see more than half of my contacts anymore. It is slow and it sucks the joy out of the flickr experience. This beta is even worse.

Bonne Fête aux Papas !!! Bon Dimanche

I want to say that 2012 was one hell of a freaking year, for all of us! I actually got to see who my true friends are while others decided to show their true colors, well fine with me, you go your way I go mines. but other than that, I can say that I am proud of my photostream! for the past 2 years I wasn't that satisfied, till now! 2012 I think brought out my best photos, and I can say that my editing/picture taking/quality has improved my tons, I wonder what 2013 has in store for me ;3

Today Flickr announced a new preview version of their main photo page.

The most significant difference is that photos will now be shown at 640 pixels default on the Flickr page rather than 500 pixels. Flickr has also added a lightbox option where you can simply click on a photo to enlarge it to an even large size on a black background (you can also press the "f" key on your keyboard to toggle back and forth between lightbox view). It is interesting that they are using an old version of the Flickr logo (without the "from Yahoo" tag) in the Lightbox view. They've also significantly enhanced the geotags associated with photos, offering three different map views far away, closer, even closer as you move your mouse over the geotag thumbnail image.

Additionally Flickr has consolidated many of the view and functions associated with an image into "action menus" at the top of the page above the photo and integrated favorites into the comments section.

After playing around with the new page for about a half hour or so I have to say that I think I like it. It feels much cleaner, slicker and easier to navigate. I like the keyboard commands you can use to advance through a photostream. Some of the small differences will take some getting used to, but I think showing off photos bigger is *great.* I think I'd like to see the thumbnails in the sets link slightly bigger, but that's a small complaint. Overall I think that this refresh of the photo page is a welcome improvement for the Flickr experience and am happy to see it.

There is a "gut reaction" thread where Flickr users are expressing their opinions on the new page design that you can check out here. Right now it feels like initial reaction is trending positive on the change over negative by a meaningful margin from the Flickr community.

Last night a group of 10 us, 10 active Flickr users, discussed and debated the new Flickr. You can watch this show here: thomashawk.com/2013/05/the-hangout-where-we-review-the-ne...

What do YOU think about the new Flickr? Love it? Hate it? Undecided?
