The bottle of malt is empty :-(

In lovely afternoon sunshine, and dark clouds in the background, we see the Torness Flasks returning to Sellafield. 37609 is in top n tail mode with 37612, and are seen passing Seton on the 26th March 2015 with 6M50. This shot was taken at 1532 and was running slightly early.

A shot taken from the footbridge at Wallyford Station shows 56067 with the Flask train to Torness.

This was a Sellafield - Torness working just before DRS took over these trains. This was the last shot I got before DRS took over. Note also the brake van on the rear, also the last time I saw one on the main line.

65/365 - Coffee/Tea

Out for a walk in the countryside, with a sandwich for lunch and a flask of coffee.

Some nice morning sunshine coincides with the weekly 6S43 Carlisle Kingmoor - Torness flasks crossing the embankment at Thankerton headed by an 88 + 68 combo.

My first proper shot of DRS liveried class 20s and it took place at Cam & Dursley. It was 20308 and 20305 working an early running 13:41 Berkeley - Crewe Coal Sidings 15/4/15

68017/68003 on approach to Prestonpans working 6M50 14:59 Torness Power Station - Carlisle Kingmoor Sdg(Drs)

Yeah, I'm afraid it's another shot of 37s on flasks.

As I'd suspected No.37218 was tucked in behind on 6K73.

Still, it was a nice day and I managed not to blink first and relocate when the one cloud in the sky got perilously close to the sun.

A lesser man may have buckled but I held firm at my spot just south of the foot crossing.

I may have mentioned it before but No.37682's nose ends carry a lighter shade of yellow than the norm' and always make a photo look a little odd.

The flasks were for a Tuesday trip to Sizewell.

Two Mercury flasks that weigh about 78 pounds each full. Photographed with a Kodak Retina I using Kodak Tri-X 400 film semi-stand developed in Rodinal 1:100 for 1 hour.

The long road home.

Whilst the Tyne Valley route is closed, the return Seaton - Sellafield flasks have to travel up the ECML, round Edinburgh and Glasgow then down the G&SW to reach Carlisle and then home.

37069+37609 are seen on this working (6Z60) passing Spittal, west of Drem, on a clear sunny morning. A welcome change of weather after the recent storms.

This Month (August) saw the last of the flask trains to Sellafield.Movements were stopped during the duration of the Olympic Games in London but now all the spent fuel has been removed. Here a pair of class 20s wait for loading to be completed at Leiston. It was always a good day out driving round the Suffolk country lanes once the train departed to get to the next good photographic spot, although I never did manage a decent image of the class 20/37 combo!

More flasks! This time DRS Compass liveried Class 68s nos: 68023 'Achilles' and 68002 'Intrepid' provide the power for 6M67 11:58 Bridgwater to Crewe flasks as it passes the site of the former Coalpit Heath station.

The train was looped at Bristol Parkway after arriving 58 mins early. It was held until it's booked path despite nothing initially being behind it!

Direct Rail Services Class 37s 37612 and 37716 pass through Barnt Green with the second flask train of the day, the 13:56 (118 early) Bridgwater F.D to Crewe Coal sidings (Drs), just three minutes after the Berkeley.

73 141 has paused at Appledore briefly before heading off down the single line freight only branch to Dungeness. The Thursdays only Willesden to Dungeness Flask train on a gloomy day back on the 5th December 1991. The main motive power for these trains was either a 33 or 73 locomotive.

The combined flask train from Valley and Trawsfynydd.

This photograph comes to you by courtesy of the letter V, my twenty-second picture for the February Alphabet Fun: 2025 group.

The pair of 31's on the Trawsfynydd flasks had failed on the Conwy Valley line and 37107 was sent to rescue them. The other 31 had brought the Valley flasks to Llandudno Junction where the train was combined.

37259 and 20309 on the 6C22 06:56 Carlisle to Sellafield flask train put on a bit of a show as it leaves Parton station - 10/06/15.

Arriving with flasks from Trawsfynydd

A pair of named Direct Rail Services class 20/3s 20301 'Max Joule 1958-1999' and 20305 'Gresty Bridge' made a rare appearance on the 6E44 Kingmoor Depot to Seaton-on-Tees nuclear flask working on Monday 11th June 2012. The pair are seen here leaning the sharp curve through Wetheral station on the Tyne Valley line. The station was closed during the Beeching cuts in 1967 but reopened in 1981 on an unstaffed basis. The old stationmaster's house still stands, as a private residence, with the boarded up ticket windows still visible. The 1880's North Eastern Railway cast iron footbridge and the station master's house are Grade II listed.
