With its LNER apple green livery long since removed, 47522 “Doncaster Enterprise” now sports parcels red livery as it passes Tanyard Bay, Parton on 17 September 1994 with a Carlisle – Sellafield flask train.
At this time barrier wagons were still used and in this case they were redundant HEA 13.2te coal hoppers, of which there are four in this train. However the second, third and eighth wagons have had their hopper structures removed to create the first bespoke barrier wagons. This work was carried out by Currock wagon repair depot at Carlisle, the new 11.5te flat wagon's TOPS designation changing to RNA.
At this time of the year there is nothing better than putting on ones walking boots, thick woolly jumper and scarf, a flask of freshly brewed coffee and my dog and trusty walking partner "Max" and heading off along country lanes and winding footpaths early on a misty autumnal morning. The world is just waking up revealing all the jewels that nature has to offer, this was one of those mornings, a Nursery Web Spider....

The light took a turn for the slightly better by the time 31304 approached Morecambe prior to running round so as to access Heysham Port. This was the Sellafield to Heysham flask service, in those days a single Class 31 was the power of choice with hopper wagons acting as barrier vehicles and a brake van was still employed. The Class 31s carried Railfreight Coal sector branding as it was the division that covered nuclear flask movements.
Time period RP essentials.

68003 & 68002 are seen crossing Ravenglass viaduct with 6K73, 1738 Sellafield B.N.F to Crewe empty flasks. With the loss (closure) of Valley this train has, of late, only run twice a week, Tuesday early evenings and Saturday mornings. This particular week only the Tuesday late PM train ran meaning only one running of the Crewe all week. The Heysham flask train is the only other regular runner, normally once weekly, plus infrequent sorties to Barrow Docks.
