First time for me to see the Aurora with my eyes, i was amazed and in complete awe of this natural Phenomanon, of light
I awoke this morning to find a group of 6 baby squirrels out in the yard with their mom! baby squirrels really do look like babies:-)
For the first time since starting Macro Mondays, I find myself posting two images on the same theme.
The 365 is of a large lemon, and I prefer the spiral in this.
The Macro Mondays is a small (2") lemon with smaller spiral to comply with the 3" rule.
Both have been given a hessian texture and a cracked paint texture, as they are inspired by the Vanitas paintings of the 17th century.
There is a good explanation of the symbolism of the lemon here
Summary from the same source:
"the lemon can be read as a symbol of both luxury and mortality, of artistic talent and earthly decay, of fidelity and the fickle nature of wealth, of the might of empire and the ultimate meaninglessness of possessions."
Don't say, "It is morning", and dismiss it with a name of yesterday. See it for the first time as a newborn child that has no name.

This is my first attempt at star trails. At the cottage in Tofino, British Columbia I decided to spend an hour outside to give star trails a go. This one in particular is 100 thirty second exposures layered together.
So Lindsay has finally made it out of the hotel room, and then even made it past the hotel reception, and into the bar, then into to a taxi, then into a club! Thanks Lisa Green ! 🌸
I hesitated before posting this image.
Since I mainly shot film, I prefer to do the film look in camera, rather than in post.
However, I’ve been surprised by the results with the iPhone 11 Pro Max.
Mobile editing app become very powerful. Still, we need to use several to do everything.
Snapseed is free, and it’s so easy to use.
I’m ashamed to say the result of this first test doesn’t make me mad like some filters I tried in the past.
At least on a smartphone, I can’t tell the difference.
On a bigger device, it’s another story, and I still have to check how it prints.
First time we have seen these at Lake Hindmarsh (they are there, but our first time!) quite a distance away, think we will have to go back with a packed dinner and hope they come closer!!
While travel restrictions are high around us, it doesn't stop our feathered friends from stopping by. First time having a Savannah Sparrow in the backyard. Not the greatest pic, but it's a record shot nonetheless.
Actually, two lenses. I had cataract surgery on one eye in September and the second eye in October. Not being able to dive/snorkel for 4 months was not fun!
For the first time in decades, Steam had returned to the D&I in the form of Canadian Pacific 2816.
With clear signals to Hampshire, CP 2816 brings CPKC 40B aka the Final Spike Excursion over the Fox River in Elgin, Illinois on their way to the Quad Cities.
Sadie Mae's first time going thru a car wash with me.
She was so inquisitive and relaxed.

For the first time in nearly 52 years since it was withdrawn from the Victorian Railways and nearly 100 years since built, A2 986 returns to the mainline!
Nearly 5 months ago, A2 986 operated for the first time under its own power around Newport Workshops and today onto the mainline!
Here the pairing of A2 986 and T395 leave Newport Workshops with the first run as 0580.
A2 986 began mainline testing operating a series of trips between Newport and Sunshine. This allowed for testing at low speed in a controlled environment. Some adjustments have been found to fix at a later date though the overall testing was a success.
A T class diesel (no. 395) was used to provide a modest load for A2 986, to provide a train to base radio for communication and to help with driver training of V/Line crews on the goods only railway line to Sunshine.

CTA 6000 series cars 6711-6712 stop at Adams/Wabash during a shakedown/clearance run. This is the first time in 27 years that these cars have been to the Loop since their retirement in 1992. After retirement they were destined for scrap but were acquired by the Museum of Transport in St. Louis. CTA repatriated the cars in 2017, and after much work by the CTA Heritage Fleet volunteers, returned the cars to running order in September 2018. This is their first big outing since coming back to CTA.
They were built by St. Louis Car Co. in 1959 in the last batch of 6000's to come to CTA. They used recycled components from scrapped CTA "Green Hornet" PCC streetcars.
For the first time in years, my Canon 300mm L prime is working as intended after finally getting around to having the long running focusing issues repaired. With the Colchester Canon repair centre now closed it had to be sent away and after two months it's back and this F-15 was the first aircraft I have tried it on. Appears to be working okay!

Next weekend we're going skiing and snowboarding. Very exiting!, except, we've never done it before. Thank goodness for indoor snow parks that have beginner classes. I am going to be very sore tomorrow.

My first visit to Catherine Hill bay wharf (en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Catherine_Hill_Bay,_New_South_Wales) and I was lucky enough to be presented with a nice sky.

Sandy River & Rangeley Lakes #6 takes control of a revenue passenger train consisting of all, original SR&RL equipment. Here, the train performs a slow speed run-by for photographers at Top of the Mountain.
First time at this location and with the sun slowly setting, we see Freightliner Heavyhaul locomotive 66616 working the 16:30 from Elstow Redland terminal to Tunstead (6Z31) on the evening of the 12/4/21. Photographers luck with this shot as the train was booked to travel on the fast line but got switched to the slow line to allow a late running Intercity train from London to pass.
First time of seeing a Romanian locomotive and unexpected too. Here we see a Constantin Grup (part of the PKP Cargo family) locomotive 430109 working an intermodal train through Szar enroute towards Budapest and beyond on the 22/2/22.
The engine was built in the 1960s and use to be owned by CFR in Romania.
Unfortunately a naughty cloud partially blocked the sun as the train approached - naturally the unit behind was in full bling :-(
