Immortality
by Lindsay Laurie
Mortal are us human kind
seeking peace with baited breath.
Immortality imparts the mind
to believe there is no death.
Immortality is really history …
writings from the then times wealth.
Replayed in a similar mode
as history repeats itself.
Each tiny fraction of the puzzle,
is ancient generations text,
leads the way to consider
what right now is needed next …
Each year reaches new horizons,
the past has been addressed -
and we live our life believing,
our time is the very best.
It was my first time at Myakka River State Park located above Naples in SW Florida. I camped there which gave me the opportunity to photograph earlier than their 8am opening time. There were several Black Skimmers working the mouth of the river and I liked the particular pose this one gave me. They are contact feeders, dragging their lower mandible through the water with reflexes fast enough to clamp on a fish immediately upon contact, bending their head under them to absorb the impact and maybe provide some microseconds of time to secure their prey. It’s amazing they don’t break their necks on hard objects, but I’ve never seen even one with a broken bill; although I suspect it happens. First time using photo merger from 10 vertical shots. Accepting recommendations to make the process easier. It took me forever working from raw files, which generated a huge file.
It's the first time I have seen one of these. It stopped by for less than a minute and this is the only shot I could manage.

The watermill Lippholthausen (Schloßmühle Lippholthausen) in the Lippholthausen district of Lünen is a grain mill built in 1760 near the river Lippe. The watermill of the former Buddenburg noble house is a late Baroque half-timbered building, not far from the former Buddenburg Castle.
From the 14th century until 1902, the Buddenburg house was owned by the Frydag family of Buddenburg. The Frydags belong to the very old Westphalian nobles. The family is mentioned for the first time in 1198.
Around 1535, the noble family built a watermill south of Brunnenstraße and opposite Schlossallee. At the former river Henebecke a large millpond was excavated.
Afterwards, the runs of the creek Henebecke, Sadbecke, Wilbecke and Seltenbecke were diverted so that they flowed directly into the new millpond and fed it with water.
After the mill had been completed and put into operation, the farmers in the area of the thirlage "Buddenburg Mahlzwang" had to come to the castle mill to have their grain ground.
Nothing remains of the mill built at the beginning of the 16th century. However, the current mill building already has a considerable number of years on the hump: It was built in 1760 by Wessel Giesbert von Frydag.
In 1903, Haus Buddenburg and the mill were inherited by the Rüxleben family. The latter finally sold the property to the city of Lünen in 1913. Until 1930 grain was ground in the castle mill.
The old mill pond above the castle mill is no longer present, it was filled in 1938 during the construction of the Lippewerk. A loss for trippers, they could sail around on the pond with paddle boats.
Until the end of the 1970s, the House of Buddenburg, which also included the castle mill, stood in the district of Lippholthausen, now part of Lünen.
The Mühlenfreunde Lippholthausen e. V. restored and maintains the mill, which currently serves as an excursion restaurant and can also be used for weddings. It was placed under monument protection in 1985.
A couple of weeks ago, the first time I was able to get some decent shots of Dunlin . . . ok perhaps I got carried away
My first time in the Arctic Circle (-30C) and my first and only time under the Aurora Borealis – a magic moment which we witnessed for about half an hour before the lights went out. Sadly, for the rest of the trip to Lapland, they didn’t show when the cloud cleared.
Interesting shooting, I used a 20mm f1.4 lens wide open and had to keep the shutter speed at around 5-8 seconds to catch the waves in the Aurora but I should have stopped down to get more of the foreground in focus and sacrificed more noise by increasing the ISO. I have to admit I was running round like a headless chicken trying to find a composition in the middle of a forest (which isn’t easy). The intensity of the lights varies so much – you really have to be on the ball with your exposure otherwise it can blow out the photo. Amazing night!

First time attempting to grow some of my own veggies. I'm delighted when I saw this beauty emerge. How does a tomato even grow, let alone turn from green to yellow? Seems rather miraculous to me. Can't wait to taste it with the purple basil and other herbs!
I met these two young ladies along Wiley Road. This was their very first time out birding and they were excited to see some different birds then they would see in their own backyards in Toronto! They both bought binoculars and a bird guiding book.
They had read a lot of good reports of this area to see 100's of different birds not found in other parts of Ontario. Which is true. However, as I told them in a good 15 or more minute chat. They kind of picked the wrong time of the year to see very many species. Most of the birds have already migrated. But,I told them which ones they may find.I told them to come back in June and they will find between 200-300 different species of birds! They were both very thankful for my tip.
It was nice to see a couple city girls interested in birding! I hope they found some birds after I left!

Yesterday I left Hamburg for the first time since March. Of course, sitting in a car and driving in a rural area would not be dangerous at all. But I do most of my photo trips with public transportation and bike only. And looking at it this way, yesterday was a good time to start photo trips again.
Eagerly poses youngster Archie for the photographer at the restaurant before my tea and his water will be served. After which he will assume the more convenient floored position next to my legs.
As usual, using only the small smartphone screen, the Snapseed editing is overdone - it only becomes obvious when checked on a bigger screen.
First time driving around Bangkok and shoot doll photo. Only possible during new year because traffic jam everyday....
Location is usually fills with people because it's literally in front of the train station. Only few 1-2 minutes gap while less people are around.
first time getting a picture of the two of them together... even thought it only lasted a second!!

Australian Emerald Dragonfly (Hemicordulia australiae) female
I often see the Tau Emerald Dragonflies around the garden but this is the first time I have had an Australian Emerald visit. Another that is usually found around waterways.
It was the first time i'd been down the beach for a few days, and it was great just to take in the sun , and hear the sights and sounds. The choughs and peregrines were nesting, and the house martins are back. This shot is for Angharad, a wonderful Flickr friend who was a passing stranger. She cycled from Cardiff to Tenby yesterday, 111 miles, and passed quite close to the beach. She's a star. Passing stranger is by Scott Matthews.
