Wow....for the first time I am actually happy with a few photos!

The Rudolf W. van der Goot Rose Garden in Colonial Park of Franklin Township, NJ, is such an amazingly beautiful site, with so much meticulous thought and care that went in to the planning and design.

We learned about this garden that is nationally registered and known amongst flower aficionados, and visited it for the first time in August of 2014. The peak period for roses, in particular, was far gone, but a good number of late peaking ones and long lasting species which continued to display the glorious colors and shapes were present for us to appreciate what it might be during the peak season.

On this mid-June day, although the start of the peaking roses, two nights prior had been a severe thunderstorm, and as a result, the majority of the ones that should have been in full bloom were beaten to the ground . . . And for those hanging on by a thread had sustained too much damage to the point of no recovery.

Many new late bloomers were just beginning to show signs of early maturity in a few weeks, and a decent portion of the roses were still in the bud stages. So, those should look quite lovely down the line.

In any event, Colonial Park’s Rose Garden offered some other beautiful photo –ops, and we managed to capture a few beautiful scenes of the inner parts of a buttery, Grandfora Rose, a Prickly Pear Cactus, and a wonderful white Waterlily, along with a handsome Dragonfly by the fountain.

The park is not only about the nationally acclaimed rose park, but also known for its other countless flowers and insects, so it would be a great place for family with kids to enjoy.

First time of splash ..

First time spotting one of these!

This is a shot I published some time ago the first time. Meanwhile I've learned (better) how to process b&w pictures in a proper way ;-)

Ground squirrels are cute animals in and of themselves, but when there are young animals too...

Dad watches closely. Chucker cousins standing by.

The mood a photo conveys is such an important element in the storytelling process. The first time I visited this canyon it was a bright bluebird day. It had been awhile since it had rained and there wasn't a lot of water flowing. The shots I got were mediocre to say the least. The next time I returned it was a dark and stormy day. With recent rain, the canyon had much better flow. I took off my boots and wandered up close to this waterfall to take the shot. My feet were absolutely freezing after just a couple minutes! But the moody temperament was just what I had envisioned.

First time I had seen Eider flying. You wait all this time and like buses 3 come along together :-).

Oh boy is this old, but I am still proud of it!

First time I've visited Whitby and realised you can go up the lighthouse. Only £1.50. Good views but the lighting conditions facing the town were rubbish.

The final loaded Oregon, California & Eastern log train heads west near Olene, Oregon. I had just discovered this vantage the day before, and used it for a last view of the logger out on the road.

Today, you can hike the right of way here on the OC&E Trail, an Oregon State Park.

So so happy and blessed to know you in both worlds xxx

The first time ever I saw your face

I thought the sun rose in your eyes and the moon and stars were the gift you gave

To the dark and the empty skies, my love, to the dark and the empty skies.

The first time ever I kissed your lips

I felt the earth move in my arms like the trembling heart of a captive dove

That was there at my command, my love, that was there at my command.

The first time ever I held you near and felt your heart beat close to mine,

I felt a joy to fill the earth

And last until the end of time, my love, and last till the end of time.

Our love will last till the end of time.

A magical moment ♥♥

Ah yes. YES! <3

It felt so great to be one with my telescope again last night. After nearly four months, I was able to get the observatory open again and throw down with the photons.

This was one of my most fantastic captures I've done in ages. Last winter, I was completely unable to photograph this deep sky object due to persistent clouds and rain that seemed virtually relentless from November to March (which is incidentally prime season for this one).

Last night here at the observatory, we were blessed with a moment of rare, clear skies with transparency in the 80% range, so I wasted no time in getting things aligned and calibrated.

I present, for the first time in two years - Messier 42 - also known as the Great Nebula in Orion.

A total of 45 minutes' total exposure using ISO1600 and ISO3200 exposure frames. Few darks were used in the final calibration due to temps being in the low twenties. It was so cold in fact, that the metal ALT-AZ and DEC adjustment knobs on my telescope's mount kept freezing!.

Yes indeed, being back in the saddle again felt so great.

Captured using a Meade DS2120 OTA piggybacked to a 10-inch Meade LX200 Classic. The camera used to capture this was a Nikon D5500. EXIF file data unavailable due to stacking and calibration.

Walking Stick, Phasmatidae, on sunflower stalk

Is yours dry? Have a problem getting yours wet? Then have a can and drink some!

This was my first sighting of these new locos but, unlike the song, I'm not sure that I would describe it as a thing of beauty. From a distance it looked impressive, but as it got closer... and are they supposed to make that high pitched screeching sound?

Best seen large (some would argue)!

Techy stuff: 70001 with a northbound Freightliner at Twyford Bridge. Possibly 4M61 Southampton Marine Terminal - Trafford Park FLT.

Explore #375

Took a drive up to Callaghan Lake for the first time this morning. Would like to go back for a night!

The first time a photo of mine made it on to Explore! Wow, I'm thrilled!

First Mesa, Hopi Indian Reservation. First Mesa, Arizona USA

Sixty five years ago in 1957, Ewan MacColl, a British political song writer wrote a song for a woman who later became his third wife. The song was entitled "The First Time I Ever Saw Your Face" and became a classic romance song popularized later in America by Roberta Flack. It has since been sung countless times at weddings and other celebrations when men want to give special attention to the first time they saw the woman they married.

I had an experience akin to this the first time I came upon a Wood Duck. I was stealthily creeping through the woods toward a small wetland pond and saw this gaily colored waterfowl sitting on a log sunning itself and thought I had witnessed the most uniquely and beautifully colored duck I had ever seen.

Thanks to their webbed feet that feature characteristics of a chicken's claws and a duck's web, the Wood Duck is comfortable perching in trees which made this photo much easier to take. Wood ducks are also the only American duck that regularly produces two families each year.

This foto was sent on Flickr last week from my sister and brother inlaw. www.flickr.com/photos/23252197@N03/ It was the first time in my life seeing an adult picture of him. He has passed on. But I always wondered what he looked like. It is so nice to actually see him.

My first time on a shooting range for 40 years....maybe time to get some more practice or better glasses :-)

My first lightning Selfportrait. I used the Pluto trigger for the first time. I think this years storm season shall be fun

78,000 miles

First time up the new viewing platform of London.

The pilgrimage church in Steinhausen, Biberach district, is one of the most important baroque churches in Germany.

Dominikus Zimmermann is both a master builder and plasterer, along with his brother, Johann Baptist Zimmermann, who is a fresco painter.

Both of them created a spatial work of art that is unparalleled.

In 1727, Abbot Didaktus Ströbele from Schussenried Monastery discussed the building plans with Dominikus Zimmermann for the first time. At the time, Zimmermann was busy building and furnishing the nearby monastery church in Siessen.

They reached an agreement and construction of the pilgrimage church began in 1728. It was consecrated in 1733. The church was submitted and approved with construction costs of 9,000 guilders. In the end, however, the new building cost 50,000 guilders. The shock of the immense construction costs was initially deep, but the monastery's financial situation was not affected by this. A pilgrimage also brings in Mammon.

Dominikus's high altar design was not carried out because it was considered too expensive. The idea was to have an altar based on the model of the monastery church in Rohr. At first altars by Gabriel Weiss were put up, but these were dismantled in 1750 and replaced by works by Joachim Früholz. The high altar painting was by Franz Martin Kuen.

First time ever having this flower at my house. Maybe beginners luck but it's doing well and the hummingbirds love it.

There was a real excitement in the plane

Two kids sitting across from me on a tiny little plane..

When the plane took off and we lifted off the ground

the whole plane heard them shouting..we are flying!! we are flying!

We all got a great laugh as we could all feel what they felt..

That wonder moment..of first time

Suddenly we were all connected..we were all one

Today saw the first Electroliner on the 243, being ES100. Here it is seen at Waterloo beginning its long journey to Wood Green.

To my yard, that is. These rose-breasted grosbeaks were especially welcome since I've had no time to walk around and look for migrants this fall. They stopped to eat berries, along with a resident northern cardinal, in the dogwood tree in my front yard before moving on.
