hoping to redo this in the future, with better results.

To measure the every aspect of reality, you need to look upon the same usual thing, but from a different angle. It always kills the stereotypes. That's a beauty of this game. It always creates a space of telling a new story.

Remember these Tot Finder stickers from the 70s? I didn't think I needed one because my dad was a fireman and he already knew where my room was. This one was stuck on the back of an old Ryder truck. What a place to keep a kid!

Exploring how to implement Pile of Index Cards (PoIC), which is totally analog system, on digital world. Last time, we see it on photo organizing. This time, more fundamental level, on the Finder.

On the Finder, we treat each file/folder as a single index cards. To implement PoIC, I find what I need is a small tool to give "absolute name" to digital file/folder. The absolute name is a time stamp based on a time of action, and is used for linking between information one and another. On digital, it is not always coincides with file creation/modified date that automatically given by the Finder (see *1 and *2 below).

So I made an AppleScript-Automator droplet that gives a proper time stamp with consistent format as metadata (picture above).

How to use : Place the "TimeStamp" on your desktop, and drag & drop a file/folder on it. Then absolute name is given in the "spotlight comment" of the file/folder, in YYYY.MM.DD WWW HH:MM format. If spotlight comment already exists, you can choose "Prepend", "Overwrite", or just "Show Info".

Sorting files by comment (= absolute name) in list view, you see a sequence of your life. :)

Download : TimeStamp (1.6 MB)

-----

*1 : Suppose you download a PDF file and read it. There are three time stamp exist ; a file creation date (t1), a file modified date (t2), and a time you download and read it (t3). The absolute name is t3 because it is based on "your" action. The t1 and t2 is based on an author's action. This case, t3 is not equal to t1 nor t2.

*2 : Suppose you make a folder (t1) and give an absolute name just after you make it (t3). Next day, when you put a file into the folder, a modified date changes (t2). This case, t3 is equal to t1, but not to t2. Moreover, t2 is a variable, and is inappropriate for "absolute" name.

-----

P.S. 2012.06.07 Added a services plugin of the TimeStamp. Put the "TimeStamp (Service)" to ~/Library/Services , then you can time-stamp from context menu -> services.

The Recoil is the ultimate balanced rig for the C300, Scarlet and Epic Cameras. With the Recoil concept, the camera sits directly on your shoulder like a typical ENG Camera. The Recoil is super light and stripped down (if you are looking for something even more stripped down, check out the Recoil Lite).

The Recoil starts with our light Gorilla Baseplate. It attaches to the camera with 3/8” 16 and ¼” 20 screws*. The Gorilla Baseplate features 15mm diameter, 60mm spaced threaded rod holes in the front of the base plate that allow users to mount a follow focus, lens support or other accessories in front of the camera. The Gorilla Baseplate is not compatible for matte box use unless you have a height adjustable matte box.

Unique to the Recoil is the use of the Zacuto Q-Release and Shoulder Pad. The Q-release allows you to mount the shoulder pad directly underneath the camera and be able to quickly release the shoulder pad from the rig by flipping two levers. This gives you two things: the ability to quickly attach the rig to a tripod and vice versa, and the ability to have the camera sit directly on your shoulder eliminating the front heaviness. Coming off the front of the Recoil is our dual handgrip system, the Zgrips V3. The Recoil requires the use of an EVF. We recommend using the Z-Finder EVF Pro and the EVF Rod Mount to mount the EVF to the Recoil. The Recoil is a great kit for run & gun style or all day shooting with the EOS C300, Epic or Scarlet.

Finder chart to aid in locating Uranus, near Jupiter, on 1 Sept. 2010.

The labeled stars can be used as a star-hop.

Uranus, C, and D are about equidistant from Jupiter and nearly the same brightness (within half a magnitude). Of these, only Uranus will show a disc. To see the disc, use about 200X. It should appear bluish-green and distinctly round.

Chart made using The Sky 6 Pro edition, from Software Bisque.

This the test film of a Jupiter-12 1:2.8 f=35mm lens received among a set of Russian opticals including as well a Jupiter-11 telelens 1:4 f=135mm, a KMZ Universal multi-focal finder, and 3 Hoya filter in the 40.5mm screw mount.

The Jupiter-12 is a copy of the pre-war Carl Zeiss Biogon 3.5cm f/2.8 for the Contax that Russia produced since 1948 to around 1980. Biogon is of course a non-retro focus lens that penetrate deeply in the camera body with a protruding last glass element that should be protected with the special rear lens cap that came with. The lens was manufactured in 1975 by theKMZ sister company LZOS company (Lytkarinski Zavod Opticheskogo Strekla) in Lytkarino (Moscow region).

I equipped my Zorki-4K body with the lens plus the Hoya Yellow filter, and the universal KMZ finder. There ange finder is coupled to the lens and gives correct distance measurements.

The camera was loaded with an Ilford FP4+ 24-exposure film. It was exposed for 80 ISO instead of 125 ISO to compensate the yellow filter absorption; I used my Autometer III Minolta lightmeter fitted with a 10° finder for selective measurements privileging the shadow areas.

Parc de la Cerisaie - Villa Gillet, June 3, 2023

69004 Lyon

France

(Parc de la Cerisaie and the Villa Gillet were the domain of the Gillet dynasty founded by François Gillet (1813-1895) owner of the chemistry empire "Progil" (chemistry, polymers and textiles) that merged then to "Rhône-Poulenc" in the seventies, then (after several successive others merging) to SANOFI)

After exposure, the film was processed using Adox Adonal (Agfa Rodinal) developper at dilution 1+25 and 20°C for 9min. The film was then digitalized using a Sony A7 body fitted to a Minolta Slide Duplicator installed on a Minolta Auto Bellows III with a lens Minolta Bellow Macro Rokkor 50mm f/3.5. The RAW files obtained were processed without intermediate files in LR and edited to the final jpeg pictures.

All views of the film are presented in the dedicated album either in the printed framed versions and unframed full-size jpeg accompanied by some documentary smartphone Vivio Y76 color pictures.

About the camera :

This Zorki-4K camera was manufactured in 1977 by KMZ company ( Красногорский механический завод, Krasnogorskiy Mechanicheskiy Zavod) located in the Moscow region. KMZ also manufactured the ZENIT SLR's among many other productions. Zorki 4K was produced between 1972 to 1978 and the previous Zorki models were inspired by the Leica II since 1949. This model 'Made in USSR" is branded in roman characters, intentionally for exportation. Other Zorki 4K were also branded in Cyrillic as "Зоркий". Zorki 4K was sold basically either with this Jupiter-8 lens 1:2 f=50mm or the Industar lens1:3.5 f=50mm. The Jupiter-8 is a Sonnar Zeiss optical formula and fits to the Zorki body using the screwing 39mm Leica mount.

Its was sold to me in August 2022 with its original ever-ready leather bag, a front lens cap and a small shade hood accessory Minolta D42KA. The shade hood and filter of my Focaflex also fit to the Jupiter lens (Leica standard 42 mm filter)

ABOUT ZACUTO'S EVF VIEWFINDER

Zacuto is changing the game again! We are transforming the form factor of DSLR cameras for video use with our Z-Finder EVF. The Z-Finder EVF is a 3.2” high resolution monitor that will be used in conjunction with all the Z-Finder models. The Z-Finder EVF allows you to operate the DSLR camera with the correct form factor for video with the camera "in-line" to your rod system (the most stable way) and your eye in the Z-Finder EVF. This is the way all film cameras and ENG video cameras were operated and we, at Zacuto, believe this should be the way DSLR cameras should be operated. It will enhance the stability, give you better resolution, allow you to get your eye where it most comfortably needs to be, enable low mode shooting, have your EVF in the back of a dolly or crane, detached from the rig for car shots and more.

SPECIFICATIONS:

* Actual 16×9 screen

* 800×480 resolution

* .087 dot pitch

* Focus Assist

* False Color Exposure Assist

* HDMI loop through

* Operates off Canon LP-E6 Camera battery (1/2 day power)

* Includes a hot shoe mount or optional articulating arm kit.

* Can mount to other manufacturer's rig (RedRock, Cinevate, Letus, etc.) via 1/4 20 screw, 15mm rod or articulating arm

* All Z-Finder models snap on and off the EVF and can be used interchangeably between the camera screen or EVF screen

* Includes Zacuto designed right-angled HDMI cable

* Professional grade construction

* 12 volt external power

Zacuto Z-Finder EVF 3.2” monitor has higher resolution than DSLR LCD screens. These screens have a resolution of 640×480 on a 3:2 aspect ratio screen. Therefore, you only effectively see the resolution at 640×360 in 16×9. The Zacuto Z-Finder EVF monitor resolution is a true 800×480 making the resolution 56% greater than the on-board DSLR camera screens. The Zacuto monitor also has a tighter dot pitch which also improves the quality, making you see a much tighter pixel pattern.

The Z-Finder EVF is currently in prototype stages. It will be available in February 2011 (limited supply) and we are estimating the price to be $775.00. We will be updating customers who are interested along the way with news and videos. Sign up for the reservation list now www.zacuto.com/zfinderevf. We will be taking deposits in December for customers to hold their spot in line; you will be notified via email.

The Nikon F was an ambitious (and far from cheap) camera right from the start; one feature which contributed to this was its interchangeable viewfinders. Here the external CdS cell Photomic finder is seen alongside the plain prism and waist-level hood options, and focusing screens for different uses.

the best find of the weekend.

i found this pair of black and white chucks at a secondhand vintage shop. The shoes are in perfect condition. i have no idea why anyone would have given them up. i only know they have been worn because the bottoms were a little dirty.

and the best part about them was not only were they my size, but they only cost $30.

I enjoy every comment, fav, and invite.

Only polite & tasteful comments please!

Years ago, it seemed as if half the houses in my hometown had one of these "Fire Rescue Program" decals stuck to a window somewhere.

For the record, these things carried a 1972 copyright disclaimer and were once red. These also seemed to use a superhuman-strength adhesive: Why else would cracked and faded stickers still be clinging to bedroom windows decades after the tots in question grew up and moved away from home? If the program ever worked, it probably doesn't now.
