Some shots with a white background, are they better or worse then the regular lighted black? You be the judge.
This is an inexpensive angle finder for the EOS made by a Chinese company called Seagull. I ordered this through eBay from a Hong Kong vendor. The build quality is okay (plastic).
As you can see, it came with five different mounts so that you can put it on various Leica, Canon, Nikon viewfinders. There was none listed for my 30D but I discovered the 18mm one marked for "EOS300, 88QD, 500N..." fit right, however you could very easily knock it off the viewfinder. There is no 'lock' to keep it on in all cases. Fitting the mount on and the angle finder on the mount is simple. Even though the instructions are all in Chinese you won't need them at all.
As for the optical quality, there are two diopter settings, one for 1x and 2.5x. When you first put it on you have to fiddle with the angle finder's focus ring and also the diopter setting on the Canon's viewfinder before you can get a proper image. The image is fairly clear.
The 2X does actually help telephoto focusing but it would certainly be more usable when mounted on a tripod as it is cumbersome holding the camera, focusing, shooting and keeping your eye on the angle finder at the same time. Also, if you want to barf, try walking around only looking through the angle finder.
I wish the angle finder also tilted back like camcorders. As it is, you have to be positioned directly above (or rather, directly behind the angle wherever you turn it -- it turns 180 degrees) in order to have your eye on the eyecup.
My intended purpose was to use for low angle photography and macros. I haven't yet tested it using that yet.
I have not used the expensive Canon version of this.
So far i've had very few problems with OS X. About the only bug I've hit is that on one occasion the finder left the taskbar and was deaf to my clicks. Logging out and in again resolved it.
This is my first attempt at a decently customized OSX desktop - GeekTool, CandyBar, Stattoo, CoverSutra and Bowtie

An Astrum (Svema, Свема) oto 400 film with my French range-finder camera Foca PF2B (year 1956) for a neighboring photo walk in Lyon, France, on December 14, 2022.
The Astrum (Svema, Свема) oto 400 is a super panchromatic film on a polyester flat base and with an extended sensitization in the red to 780 nm. The film was exposed for 400 ISO using a Minolta Autometer III and its 10° finder for selective measurements.
Typically the expositions ranged from 1/1000s at full aperture to 1/50s at f/9.5 by a very cloudy and quite dark weather of December in France.
Rue des Tables Claudiennes, December 14, 2022
69001 Lyon
France
After exposures the film was processed using Adox Atomal (equivalent to Agfa Rodinal) developer at dilution 1+25, 20°C for 10min. The film was then digitalized using a Sony A7 body fitted to a Minolta Slide Duplicator installed on a Minolta Auto Bellows III with a lens Minolta Bellow Macro Rokkor 50mm f/3.5.
All views of the film are presented in the dedicated album either in the printed framed versions and unframed full-size jpeg. The negative views are highly contrasted despite the weather. The last 10 views of the film have emulsion damages due to unknown film problems, increasing the apparent granularity and presenting darker zones, maybe a chemical reaction du to the adhesive used to fix the film to the canister roll. The film has no index marks on the side, and was indicated to processed before Oct. 2022. As for the Agfa Aviphot 400 (Rollei Retro 400S) the film is backed with a water-soluble anti halation coat that need to be removed prior to development. Three bathes of 1min with water at the same development temperature was necessary to remove the black and dark blue layer.
About the camera :
The Foca type PF2B (PF standing for "Petit Format") was constructed in France by the company "Optique & Precision de Levallois" (OPL) starting from 1947. This exemplary was manufactured in the Chateaudun OPL factory, route de Jallans, France, in 1956 among a late series of the PF2B. The factory, constructed in 1938 is still there under the name of SAFRAN now producing precision devices for aerospace appliances.
The camera is equipped with the collapsible OPLAR lens (a Tessar formula) 1:2.8 f=5cm giving a typical swirly bokeh. The focal shutter of the PF2B has timing of 1/1000, 1/500, 1/200, 1/100, 1/50 and 1/25s plus the B pose. A slow exposure device below 1/25s could be installed by the aftermarket service and was installed in series for the FOCA PF3 type.
