A typical Brazilian meal. Plain white rice with black beans, " egg farofa" ( Casava meal mixed with some ingredients ) and a good draft beer. Mmmmmm delicious! Best Filet in town. Cheers!
Tender beef grilled to perfection, served on a bed of fresh spinach and topped with mushroom ragout, caramelized shallots, accented with a red wine reduction and Mascarpone cheese beignets.
The photo with flash does not capture the beautiful presentation of the plate...and of course, just how delicious this entree was. Wasabi encrusted filet mignon with tempura onion rings.

Steph and I originally planned on taking Dad out to dinner for his birthday, but he said he'd be happy just grilling out some steaks at home. We thought about ordering some Omaha Steaks for him, which he'd liked in the past, but it was too late to get them to him in time. Fortunately it turned out there was an Omaha Steaks retail location near Steph's place, so she picked up a package deal there and stuck it in a cooler with ice for the ride down to North Carolina.

Ordered from Grand Western Steaks. This is Australian raised Wagyu, so some snobs might not consider it to be "real" Wagyu. In any event...
The next day we tried some of the Filet Mignon. After the dry-brine, they were cooked simply with a cast iron skillet hard sear and basted with butter.
This was some very tasty steak! Sure, Wagyu is pricey (and this isn't even any of the crazy "real" Japanese breeds of Wagyu) but the intense marbling and unique flavor of the Wagyu fat is worth enjoying every so often.
AND, I got a really great deal on all of this that I ordered. And, I used a Gift Card that was a Father's Day present - so shout out to my wife and kids for that!

Another great recipe from Steven Raichlen. This one was just awesome..... Do think it can belong in the better restaurant. We really liked the marinade of the Filet Mignon and the marmalade! Hmmm,.. definitely one for my book. ;-)
