April 26, 2021, at El Ensueño, QuindÃo, Colombia.
The Red-headed Barbet (Eubucco bourcierii) is a relatively common bird in Colombia. We have seen them at other locations, but since our arrival here on April 6, 2021, it is one of five species that we have not previously seen at El Ensueño. April is a transition month. North American migrants have disappeared; it’s been several days since we’ve seen North American birds. It could be that there are also local migrations within Colombia that might explain why other South American species, previously not observed by us, have appeared here during the last few weeks.
Saint Theodosius Orthodox Cathedral provided a great location for exercising a little artistic license in my envisioning of the second coming...

Så här tokig såg isen på sjön ut för några år sedan och den var fantastisk att åka skridskor på.

This is how crazy the ice on the lake looked like some years ago. And it was perfect for skating.
My poor camellias have been taking another battering from gales and rain, hail, sleet. And the weekend forecast is for foul weather to continue.
A very wet day in the garden but the birds keep coming.
Thank you for the likes and comments on my photo's, I do appreciate them all.
At least I think it's a Monkey Puzzle tree. Although I've seen the flowers before this is the first photo that has shown them up so well.
2nd February 2017:
An Angle shades moth caterpillar ~ Phlogophora meticulosa.
I had taken something else for today, but just after I'd finished my lunch I noticed something green on the wall outside. So grabbed my camera, just in case.
It was worth it, our first caterpillar. I tried to move it for a better look and it ended up on the gravel along with Rufus's fur, but it gave me a better angle to take it from. Plus it stopped Izzy from trying to get to it.
Thank you to hickybank1 for the ID help.

The space between the fork tines.
Maybe not very original, but there you go.

It's the upside down fence again reflected in a puddle, further distorted by the slight breeze we had.

17th February 2017:
Decided to try something really different for today, though I may well come back to it over the rest of the year.
One of our butter dishes has pattens on the sides and the underside so I took it out into the garden to give me the best light.
I had hoped for a bit more sun to play with too, but that might come in the Summer months, when the sun is higher in the sky.

Goldcrest hanging onto the strap that holds the peanut/fat feeder together - no idea what it was interested in there.
I've had a bit of time to go through the archives this past day or two and I've rediscovered so many fond memories through the years during wanderings with my camera.
These photographs from Iceland aimed to capture the minimal, stark landscapes that left such a lasting impression on me during my first visit in 1999. The snow and ice in the foreground against the cloudy, grey skies attempted to create a unique sense of isolation and tranquility that I'd never experienced before anywhere else in the world. The wonder of geology on planet Earth. Each photo attempts to balance even weight between the land and sky with the horizon line sitting right across the middle. Iceland in February; a true winter wonderland shaped by the forces of nature.

I'd been a bit worried about the lack of Reed Buntings feeding on the garden but two turned up today.
Thank you for commenting, adding a star and viewing my photographs. I do appreciate every one.
So while visiting downtown Akron, I find myself at Quaker Square and happen upon this vintage steam locomotive in the back of the parking lot. This was my good fortune as the train was so much fun to explore, photographically speaking. And when it's sunny and 75 in late February, well, who can ask for more?

A flat leaf filled with rain or dew drops. Didn't notice what was giving them the colour.

I was about to turn down a side road when I just walked up the road a bit more having seen something that looked interesting.
It wasn't as fun as I thought, but I did find this very friendly Border Collie in a front garden.
Obviously a youngster as he/she just wanted as much love as it could get. Just to make sure I really understood she/he stuck his/her nose through the garden gate. Just managed to hit the shutter at the right moment.
It was a toss up between this shot and the snail slime for today's photo. Graham helped me decide.

16th February 2017:
Went down to the lower car park this morning and on my way down I could hear loads of birds singing, but most of the time I couldn't see them.
Then there they were, loads in a bush in a garden.
Couldn't give them a miss even though I've taken a House Sparrow before for One a Day.
I'm not sorry though, it's not often I get a bird shot.
