Sometimes when Jasper gets going really fast there is some spontaneous combustion in his wake. But, combine that kind of speed with the heat of the Sonoran Desert and things can happen. No worries. A little ice water and Jasper is back to being cool as a cucumber.

Reading Blue Mountain and Northern Railroads "NRFF" (North Reading Fast Freight) rumbles across the Lehigh River as they enter the town of White Haven, PA. Leading the train on this given day is all three of the railroads units that are painted in a paint scheme for the Fast Freight.
A UP Z train heads by an industry in Chester, IL on the UP Chester Subdivision with a GE Tier 4 and an EMD Tier 4. Although it isn't easily visible, the Mississippi river is just off to the left of the industry.
I had the opportunity to check off an item on my "Photography Bucket List" last week: Lava! I made the hike out to the recent ocean entry of lava coming from the Pu'u O'o Volcano on Hawaii's Big Island. I had been watching the lava activity for months and was very lucky to be there around its peak flow. It was an awesome sight to see. The heat was incredible, constantly threatening to melt shoes, backpacks, and tripod feet. The lava flows fast and continuous and is a real testament to the power of nature. Pretty much right after I took this shot the rain came down making for a very wet hike back to the road.
