The Fancy Indian is a traditional carnival character portrayed during the pre-Lenten Carnival festivities on the islands of Trinidad & Tobago. It is a variety of Mas (short for ‘masquerade’), taking its inspiration from the indigenous peoples of the Americas. This form of Mas is non-authentic, with one of its main features being elaborate feathered headdresses in vibrant colours. The headdress may be so large that it may have to be supported by a structure that covers the masquerader's entire body, incorporating a number of effects including feather work, mirrors, beads, papier-mâché masks, canoes, totem poles, and ribbons.

I really like the elaborate architecture on this building near Central Park, New York City. Certainly not a "cookie-cutter" style!
Don’t worry, this isn’t a mean hunt. Yes, I am wearing animal print; however, I want you to focus on what you can get!

Our Daily Challenge ... I used to.
I used to love sewing and making clothes for myself and family. Now I rarely get the machine out ... just for mending and alterations which is not much fun.
For many years I was really into machine applique and I made simple tops with interesting designs stitched onto them to sell in a boutique where I lived. They sold well and I saved enough money to buy a better sewing machine which now just sits in the cupboard unused. I also have lots of left over threads which I now use only as photographic props. Today I'm featuring a couple of fancy ones which were not really a success in my opinion.
I still love the colours!

Due to the rainiest May on record in Kansas so many waterways are flooding. This is near Tuttle Creek reservoir. This area is usually pretty dry. I can't recall the last time I've seen this with so much water.

These four Giant Swallowtails were chasing each other all over the arboretum. Only luck allowed me to catch them in flight.

A fledgling female Anna Hummingbird is fanning its tail feathers during a stretch. I enjoyed watching two siblings resting while perched among the greenery.
