Macro Mondays. Embossed
This beautiful hair barrette isn't really gold. It's fake brass maybe. It's ok, my hair is too short for it. The barrette is about 2-1/2 inches long.

Today was the last day of filming for 'The First War For The West', and I did a full seven hours of work as an extra on it. Today I was mostly an Athenian hoplite, and it was bloody hard work. The costume was heavy and uncomfortable to wear, and the long spear a lot harder to manipulate than I thought it would be; many of us were in as much danger from our own troops as we were from the enemy. I am utterly exhausted, and ache all over.
This shows off the posh helmet I got to wear. It looked great when I could get it to sit straight. There's actually a cap underneath to help it sit on my head properly. All that did was just make me hot.
This summer marked the 5th birthday of Fancy Decor! This is a cause for celebration! There's an all-new cake at the group gift area, my most opulent cake yet! Don't forget to wear your group tag!

This bench lives here in the summer and is moved under the breezeway windows in the winter.

From a series of photos we took at Fancy Frontier 10 held at National Taiwan University July 28-29, 2007, in Taipei, Taiwan. Most of the photos were taken by me (Brian David Phillips) while a number were taken by my daughter, Kaye, who cosplayed as a character from the anime/manga REBORN for the cosplay event. See public.fotki.com/briandavidphillips/cosplay/ for the complete album (the flickr set is just a selection).
I remember when my daughter was in school, her teacher said "Nothing Fancy - kids are distracted too easily"
Happy Macro Monday !
One thing Lolly and I forget to do each time we're together is do a fancy shoot together.
We made sure to cross that off our list this time.
A couple problems though: she forgot her fancy blue dress, and we didn't know where the right location might be. So we spent one night going around to stores looking for the dress Lolly-girl felt the prettiest in. And one day when we were exploring a new place with Kristin Manson, we saw these giant golden plants shooting out from the ground.
On her second to last day, I realized I could put together an outfit to match hers, and we rushed off to those tall strange plants. It was cold, sunny, and delightful.
It was certainly a day we're not likely to forget any time soon.

Hasbro Sindy sure knows how to have fun….
Wait, I think I see one of them approaching.
Is it Paul?
No, false alarm. It was a Barbie.

The feet caught my interest, the back two are in an odd position. They are mostly in the shade of the body, and this was taken on a very hot Arizona day. There is obelisk posture (like a handstand) dragonflies assume to prevent overheating on sunny days. Sometimes a little fancy foot work is what it takes to get by when things get hot!
Not much larger than an American Kestrel, the Merlin may congregate along shorelines during migration in anticipation of shorebirds to hunt. This Merlin balances precariously on the branch of an old snag as the ocean breeze unsteadies her. It takes a little fancy footwork in conjunction with outstretched wings to stay put, but she manages just fine. #Merlin #NoBaiting
